  • Fiesta. Jazz. Yaris, Note, silver or grey colour - Buying a used car - 4 different models on wishli 16 Apr 2022 (Forum)
I haven't used any car websites since then and thought I had used Autotrader back then but looking at that site today there does not seem to be a way of setting up a search for more than one model. I like the higher driving position of the 1.33 Yaris and my only complaint is that it's not fast enough on motorways but as most of my driving is in the city it's not a great problem. It may have saved me getting speeding points.
  • Hyundai i20 - Reduced mpg 26 Dec 2021 (Forum)
I've noticed a reduction in the MPG of Hyundai i20 2014 model Mark 1.5, 1.25L, there are no warning lights on the dashboard, the car is just been serviced and moted and I changed the spark plugs air filter and pollen filter, however im at a loss at the reduction in mpg, drives exactly as normal no misfiring, starts stops perfectly, engine temperature gauge is spot on, heating comes on nice and warm quickly. I should add this mpg reduction was also before the service.  It's difficult to gauge the exact reduction but I'd say 4 or 5 miles per gallon in the in town and also suburban driving.
  • Honda Civic - Camera to catch hit & run drivers 29 Jul 2021 (Forum)
Preferably on both sides so I don't always have to park the same way round, but if it can easily be swapped from one side to the other, that would do. I don't drive regularly, so it needs to be able to be left running for several days without draining the battery, maybe by using a pair of hot-swappable batteries so I can bring one inside to charge when I'm not driving.
  • Toyota Avensis Tourer - Erratic revving 1 May 2021 (Forum)
When starting the engine in the morning you get a screechy noise at the tail-end of the usual starter noise, almost like the starter is still engaged while the engine is already live, like a very high pitch sound lasting a fraction of a second.   2. When driving from cold the revving is erratic for the first 20 miles, going up when stopping to about 2k (which is normal) but keeps at 2k to 2.3k rpm when driving slowly at 20 to 30 mph. If I coast slowly by moving to neutral it goes almost to 2.5k and will go down to normal 2k when I push into 2nd or 1st gear.
  • Citroen DS3 Cabrio - Car feels slow - any advice? 31 Mar 2021 (Forum)
Could this be the cause? Car was serviced 3 weeks ago and has been driving decent except the past few days. I have checked pipes and can’t see any visible holes etc. I have checked all around the turbo too. Had someone look at it and they say they can’t see any issues.
  • Mercedes E class 2017. 250d - Intermittent smoke greyish from exhaustt 17 Feb 2021 (Forum)
What they have noted the last couple of weeks is that this scenario may happen on shorter drives of about 5/8 miles and especially if the car has been revved a few times, IE kickdown.. Often, stopping the car and restart soon get rid of the smoke. With lock-down they rarely drive the car but it is not moisture as there is too much of it even when the engines hot.
  • Kia Picanto/108 - Small car for new driver £4.5k 31 Jan 2021 (Forum)
My daughter passed her driving test around 5 years ago, and although occasionally driving her boyfriend's SUV she has never had her own car. She now wants to buy a 'first' car - around £4.5k - and has enlisted my help.
  • Jaguar Super V8 - Selling an old SORNed car 20 Aug 2020 (Forum)
I've got a 2003 X350 Jaguar Super V8 which I used to drive but has been SORNed for about a year now. The car runs fine, but it needs both front door locking mechnisms replacing and it looks a bit of a mess as I removed the driver's door card to work on the locking mechanism.
  • Honda Accord 2003 ish - Lowest Drivable Tyre Pressure? 7 Aug 2020 (Forum)
OR  How Short Is A Piece Of String? Neighbour has an almost flat front passenger side tyre. He was proposing driving a few hundred metres slowly to a garage to get some air in it. I told him not to because from the look of it he would damage his tyre, and that I would try and take the wheel off and get some air in it tomorrow, but I doubt he believed me and I'm wondering what pressure you could actually reasonably expect to get away with driving on.
  • Vauxhall Antara - Bought used car without warranty - Advice please 5 Aug 2020 (Forum)
I bought it without warranty, as it was a part-ex and unfortunately this particular dealership has a policy of no test drives, due to the current Covid-19 situation. The car has a full Vauxha service history and a great MOT history, as well as appearing physically looked after. Unfortunately, on the drive home I noticed excessive vibration in the car.

  • Renault Captur - Knocking noise 27 May 2020 (Forum)
From the recording you sent in, it sounds to me like the car could be being driven in too high a gear, as it is a diesel it is important to drive within the correct rev range, otherwise the engine and injection pump will try to compensate and create and uneven ride and noise. I will post a link to a video of the noise is anyone could please shed some light on what it could be?
  • Vw polo - VW POLO 2015 tsi gearbox problem help 12 Mar 2020 (Forum)

  • Vauxhall Zafira - Error codes and help 11 Mar 2019 (Forum)
Besides a bit of a judder in 1st gear sometimes when pulling away it drives fine, I’m only using it when I have to and it’s booked in to be investigated by Vauxhall next Monday. I’ve only had it since October and only had to replace an abs sensor so far it’s mot is due end of the month too.
  • 'That Looks Nice' 18 Dec 2018 (Forum)
I guess that it had done quite a bit lower mileage than mine (182k)  and had had a more sheltered life. It seemed to have fewer 'dings'.  It appeared to be an older person driving. And yet, I thought, as I drove mine away, a few dings and all (also an SE but all in black) I've got new tyres, a new windscreen, recently tried and tested in severe mountain driving and freshly serviced, would I willingly change it for any other car here?
  • Honest John's Motoring Agony Column 01-12-2018 Part 1 5 Dec 2018 (Forum)
A young driver should not left foot brake until manual cars are so rare as to be irrelevant (which will happen at some point) Older drivers, I agree, can benefit from left foot braking as long as they never drive a manual.
  • Alternating flashing headlamps. 17 Oct 2018 (Forum)
As we were authorised to use the hard shoulder quite frequently to reach incidents we enquired about having flashing headlamps fitted to our vans to give us more of a prescence when driving along the hard shoulder on the inside of queuing traffic, the answer from the Police was a resounding NO! Over to the legal experts. PP
  • Mercedes-Benz A-Class A150 W169 - Mercedes Timing chain P0016 fault 2 Aug 2018 (Forum)
Took to my local good garage, said it very common on range of cars, his version was chain may have stretched a miniscopic amount to put the light on. He said to just drive it as normal as not a major problem, it is due to the tiny tolerances set to make the engine light come on.as if light not on you cannot tell any difference in driving or engine. This garage seem to know their stuff and i have known them year and have a top reputation but no harm in second opinion.
  • Wife clipped 3rd party car in car park 17 Apr 2018 (Forum)
I've only been driving for a little over a year, and she has been driving for about a week, so sorry if we're missing something blindingly obvious. My wife drove to the local leasure centre this morning, and as she was trying to park, she misjudged it and scraped against another vehicle, she said she scraped the wheel arch.
