A good laugh on e-Bay! 19 Dec 2006 (Forum)
And I may live in a house the same size as the ass you?re sat upon. No, only joking. The house isn?t that big. But it?s been fun trading national stereotypes with you." -
MINI (2005) - strange knocking noise 8 Dec 2006 (Forum)
Our 2005 MINI Cooper S has developed a strange knocking noise. It happens when you touch the accelerator pedal or ease off in a low gear. There is just one 'knock' noise, almost as if something is rolling around in the boot (which it isn't!!). -
406 HDI clutch? judder 10 Oct 2006 (Forum)
I'm assuming that this is probably worn engine mounts rather than the clutch. Is there any one in particular that is prone to wear. Is this a common problem with 406's. How difficult are they to replace? As far as I know the car has done mainly motorway miles so I thought the clutch should be OK. -
Fulda Carat Extremo - anyone have them? 30 Sep 2006 (Forum)
78.20 delivered a corner - 49% off their RRP. Does anyone (tyreexpert....) have any experiences of this brand/model, as it´s not one I´ve used before. I´m particularly interested in its wear rate, as the vRS is a bit of a tyre muncher. Size is 205/45 R16 83W. Thanks in advance, Barchettaman -
Wiring in door open switches Escort 97. 10 Sep 2006 (Forum)
Hi it?s always bugged me a little that Ford were so cheap that they didn?t bother putting door open switches on the back doors. I noticed that these switches seem pretty easily available for a few quid and wondered how easy it is to wire them in? -
Foreign car and headlights 21 Aug 2006 (Forum)
Hi All, I'm an expat Brit who will be driving back to Blighty in a month or 3. I would fly, but driving is more attractive just now, and I can fit more Tesco and M&S goodies in the car then in hold baggage... :-) Anyway, I digress... In the UK, are beam deflectors compulsory or recommended for left hand drive vehicles? I ask because it's not compulsory in all EU countries. -
Mondeo 04 TDCI oil filter 20 Aug 2006 (Forum)
Hello Can anyone tell me where the oil filter is located on the 130 TDCI mondeo. 04 plate zetec S. Having bought the oil and filter from Halfords I am at a complete loss. It isnt on ramps yet so I may yet find it but the weird thing is that the oil filter is an open paper thing looking much like an SU air filter although about 3" across. -
Is it likely to be written off? 1 Aug 2006 (Forum)
crashed my S-reg fiesta 1.3 finesse last night, value approx £800-900? skidded on a corner and hit the kerb with the passenger side wheel, wheel buckled and looks like it's pushed the wheel mounting (?) back, with the tyre impacting onto the wing behind the wheel and pushing that back so that the door can't be opened. front part of wing un-damaged, rear part slightly pushed out of shape, but no idea on the stuff that keeps the wheel on (?) -

Salvage parts? 29 Jun 2006 (Forum)
Anyone got any idea where I might be able to source two new doors/door-skins (n/s front and rear) for a platinum 05 Mondeo Ghia (i.e. chrome handle tips, and chrome door sills etc)? I've tried the autotrader site but all I could find was one rear door, and that's got a crease down the side... -
wheel bearing - Fiat Coupe (W reg) 18 Jun 2006 (Forum)
My car has recently started to make a "howling" noise which starts off at about 25/30mph.I have checked all the usuals like clutch in,gearbox in neutral, brakes on/off with no discernible difference. My own suspicion is that the n/s front wheel bearing is on the way out as there seems to be a slight reduction in noise on roudabouts (turning right effectively). Is there a foolproof way of isolating the culprit wheel? I have already tried rocking the wheels from side to side but they all feel ok. -
A rumination on abandoned cars 26 May 2006 (Forum)
Now we all know the price of older cars has dropped through the floor. But outside the front door of Tescos Guildford is an abandoned blue Fiat Punto S. M registered it has good tyres (please note good not just legal) a good exhaust clean body with no signs of rust and all round looks in fair nick. Certainly a world better than the MK1 Escort which was my first car. -

Fiat Barchetta rear brake imbalance 23 Apr 2006 (Forum)
Amongst other things - all pretty repairable, thank goodness - the tester reported an uneven braking performance from the rear brakes (newish discs and pads all round BTW). It´s been booked in to get this sorted prior to the retest, but I was wondering if anyone could give me a pointer as to what could have caused the problem just in case the garage try to pull a fast one, or something. -
VW DSG 5 Apr 2006 (Forum)
This is a question to all the BR?s who have a VW Diesel with the DSG gearbox. I have a 2.0 GT TDI DSG on order for delivery in May (hopefully), the only thing I found strange about the gearbox was the ?T? handle gear stick. On the GTi or R32 the DSG has a nice rounded gear knob with the trigger at the front, the showroom couldn? -
MEGUIARS Quik Clay - worth getting? 15 Mar 2006 (Forum)
As the Barchetta is up for a spring clean shortly I was thinking about what products to use. According to HJ´s recommendations I have Autoglym Super Resin and Extra Gloss protection that I plan to use, as soon as it warms up enough for the EGP to cure properly. Other posts have mentioned this Clay stuff, which is something I´ve not come across. -

Rover K series - 1400 29 Jan 2006 (Forum)
My main concern is that bargain or not, is that it has a K series engine. So my question is: Is the 1.4 K series OK and is it just the 1.8's that have the HGF problems? Or are they all rubbish? I've done a forum search, and noted the advice to check the coolant etc. TIA -
Getting Spare Keys for Honda Civic 25 Jan 2006 (Forum)
Hi there, I recently bought a second hand Honda civic 1.4i S 2000 V model. I was given only one key with the car and a remote knob attached to the keyring. I was wondering how to get a second key for it? Can I just get the key cut by a key maker or do I need to go to the dealer? -
Speeding (mostly excl cameras) Vol 36 1 Jan 2006 (Forum)
