  • BMW X3 - Mid size SUV help 10 Jun 2015 (Forum)
We've got it fixed but now after various other moments of silliness she's dented and scratched both side skirts, had a wing mirror come loose to the point of duct taping it on (we'd only just replaced it from aformentioned incident!) and managed to knock off a wheel arch trim. I hardly drive it any more since I can cycle to work and she drives to and from work and then back at lunch to play with our dog. I'm soon to sell my mum and dad's old house since they are sadly no longer with us and I figured that with the proceeds it's time I cut my losses with the Civic and leave her to it, hopefully teaching her some car responsibility in the process if she has to pay for it!
  • Ford CMAX 2007 TDCi Auto CVT - Wont move when in Drive, 9 Feb 2015 (Forum)
This all happened over the weekend, so I am just pausing for to think through my next move and would appeciate any insight from anyone who has experienced something similar or knows of this problem and what to do next. 1. The car not going in to drive, what is the most likely cause? 2. Could the ECU reporgramming make any difference to the above problem? 3. If it is going to require the soleniod replaced - whats the most cost effective way to do this?
  • BMW 1-series - Returned car to dealership due to issues - advice 10 Dec 2014 (Forum)

  • Can I be a revolutionary? 9 Jul 2013 (Forum)
Compared to our S-Max and Juke, both with decent size touch screens in the centre of the dash, capable of dealing with most things within a couple of pushes so you can do things like pair up a phone at the trafic lights, rather than having to sit in the car park for five minutes.  The BMW may drive well once you have set up everything that you want, but unless I was driving over the Snake Pass each day it advantages are lost on me for 99% of the driving that I do and I suspect for most other people as well.
  • N/A - Road Traffic Act section 151 7 Feb 2013 (Forum)
Around a year ago I loaned a car to a mate.  He had assured me that he was covered to drive it under his insurance, but he had an accident (involving minimal damage to my car but the other vehicle being written off) and it turned out that he wasn't actually covered at all.  Cue much stress for me at the time re the possible implications.
  • Ford Focus 1.8 TCDI - Head Gasket - return the car to dealer? 13 Jan 2013 (Forum)
Evening All, I have a predicament. I bought the above vehicle 10 days ago on a 52 plate. On 15minute 'in traffic' test drive all seemed ok apart from the heating. The heating came out cold. i was assured this was just a thermostat switch that needed replacing and i agreed the reduced rate of £1450 from £1800 with the dealer.
  • Had my first breakdown not nice - Clutch has gone 15 Dec 2008 (Forum)
I have already spent £200 repairing as they were safety things:- Tow bar removed general check over and oil change - £50 New door latch, reverse switch and cv boot £80 Two new Pirerri tyres at £39 each, £78 New air filter - did this myself £5 New brake fluid cap - did myself £7.00 I am now kicking and screaming at myslef for letting my dad test drive the car (he knows nothing about mechanics) I didn't have insurance so could not test drive it myself. I also never listen to my own advice which is why I have a reputation for buying sheds. My heart just says car, I have money, me buy.
  • Mondeo TD "improvement" after oil change 3 Sep 2006 (Forum)
That horrible laggy / flat bit at low revs has gone and the throttle actually does something at low revs now. Much nicer to drive" So, not my imagination. Any ideas? Anyone seen this before? Cheers DP

  • Good Deed for the day, maybe. 12 Nov 2001 (Forum)
I am glad to try and ensure that this girl does not suffer the same fate. The volvo would have probably been driven better had the two labradors in the back been in the driving seat. Rant over, sorry.
  • VW Polo 2003 Automatic Transmission - Advice on buying a used car 29 Dec 2024 (Forum)
I just bought my first car, a used one from a garage I found on AutoTrader. Everything seemed fine at first, and it still drives well, but I’ve noticed three warning lights have appeared on the dashboard. After some googling, I’ve identified them as the check engine light, the EPC light, and a brake warning light (a red exclamation mark inside a circle).
  • VW Golf Mk4 2002 1.9 TDI - Transmission or Diff noise after hard stall 1 Jul 2023 (Forum)
Causing a very hard stall! There were no sounds of anything breaking, but it was quite nasty. I was for many weeks, driving the car with a degraded injector wiring loom, which at times caused some knocking. That is now fixed. But a new noise I think began then, and has been increasing. SYMPTOMS: harshish "clicking" when driving at constant speed above about 45mph.
  • Mazda CX-5 - Mazda CX-5 Engine failure. 30 Jan 2020 (Forum)
Last week, at just over 80,000 miles she had the engine warning light come on when on the way home. Her local Mazda dealership told her it was safe to drive and booked her in for a diagnostic a week later. I advised her not to drive it and she did not.  Yesterday I followed her to the dealership, at about 7 miles, with 4 miles to go she suffered total loss of power, and had to coast to the side of a very busy dual carriageway and just managed to stop the car at the beginning an exit slip road.
  • Any - CVT experience 15 May 2019 (Forum)
Once up to motorway cruising speeds it will happily purr away all day at 2000 rpm on cruise control and the roads have nothing like the motorway traffic we experience in the UK. We have done several 3-4 hour drives in the past fortnight and you can cover greater distances in that time than at home on our overcrowded roads.
  • Citroen C3 (2002 - 2009) - 02 1.4HDi 16v engine cutting out at random 7 Jun 2018 (Forum)
I'm now at my wits end with the thing - Citroen obviously have no idea what's wrong and it's so intermittent anyway they can never actually witness the problem when they test drive it. If anybody could shed any light on this it would be most appreciated?
  • BMW 320d ED 4dr vs Mondeo Titanium - New job, new car = Mondeo or 3 Series 12 Jun 2016 (Forum)

  • Need help in deciding a Crossover vehicle 15 Feb 2016 (Forum)
Audi Q3 (2.0 Diesel with 148BHP) 3. Hyundai ix35 (1.7 engine might be under powered for my daily driving) 4. Kia Sportage (1.7 engine might be under powered for my daily driving) 5. Nissan Qashqai / Renault Kadjar (1.5 engine might be under powered for my daily driving and the rear passenger space is very crammed) In general I like Symmetrical vehicles so I'm not considering vehicles like Ford Kuga, Skoda Yeti, Citroen C4 Cactus, Honda CR-V, BMW X1 which are a bit odd shaped.
  • Company Car choice 14 Dec 2015 (Forum)
Are diesels now unsuitable for town driving - I've read it causes reliability issues? I've read the A3/Golf is the best all-rounder but diesel in these aren't on my list of choices though the Golf has a low-tax petrol I can get but seems a bit boring on paper?
  • Survey - Which would you choose? 20 May 2015 (Forum)
Be interested to see which choice HJ forum members would take. Scenario: You're allowed one car for the rest of your driving life - ie as long as you're physically able to drive legally. You dont have access to any other vehicle, but can use public transport, and own a bicycle.  This one car must be chosen from only  two  clearly defined types.
  • LandRover Freelander 2 - Land Rover ongoing costs 10 May 2015 (Forum)
My worry is am I regularly going to get bills of this size in which case it makes sense to get rid of it and go back to a cheaper brand but from new so I don't have the uncertainly. Anyone any ideas?? I need something that has an upright driving position, ok for long drives and can carry large loads. I live in a very rural areas hence the 4x4. I guess the main question is is it worth the risk of hanging onto it to try and get my moneysworth from the repairs or get shot of it before it costs even more!
