Driving/cars in Australia and New Zealand 18 Mar 2014 (Forum)
1.8L Dual VVT-i engine 6-Speed Manual or 7-Speed Multi-drive transmission . During the 3000km driven in 9 days (average 40mpg) I found the standard of driving was better than here. My driving was in Sydney, towns and more rural parts. All apart from about 3km, was on sealed roads. -
Subaru Legacy - improving handling info 25 Jul 2007 (Forum)
This setting will give greatest amount of understeer with the new configuration, but the car will corner flatter and feel less 'nose heavy' with less understeer than previously. Drive the car around for a week or two to get used to it and how it feels in corners. Try and drive the car 'balanced' through the corner, brake firmly before the corner and then ease of as you enter into the corner - its a Subaru AWD, so although you can floor the pedal and it will hold on (which is how the typical WRX numpty will drive), for fluid driving you should really just apply a little throttle as you go through the apex, just enough to overcome drag so that the car is balanced and neither accelerating nor decelerating. -
Car Supermarkets, £8k Midlands 4 Apr 2007 (Forum)
If I'd have been able to find a 5dr Dynamique 1.4 with a/c instead of 3dr for under £8000, i'd have bought it. Drives nice enough, although test-drives don't tell you much about high-speed where the steering is supposed to be worst. It was refined, and quick enough. Megane II - not as plush inside as the Clio. Harder, less appealing plastics, but it may be because I was sitting in an Expression (Clio was Dynamique 1.4) model. -
Nissan Micra - 14 day French road test 27 Oct 2005 (Forum)
One afternoon my wife and I walked down a scenic country road near Cahors in a touristy area for 4 km and were not passed by a single motor vehicle. Driving showed little gallic flair - drivers were invariably polite, and in 2 weeks I didn?t see any driving that raised my eyebrows. If I may be permitted a non-motoring tip, French supermarkets no longer give out poly bags. -
What do they teach learners these days? 5 Dec 2019 (Forum)
Watching instructors in town when I am walking about does make me wonder if they should be doing the job (texting whilst teaching etc) but surely they must have passed some form of qualification. The number of driving schools has increased hugely since I learned to drive in the early 70's and whilst in my youth they all had nice new cars (Mini's, Imps, Escorts mainly) which were changed annually these days any old wreck seems to be the norm. -
Skoda Roomster - Roomster vs Meriva... Small MPV Back to Back Test 23 Jul 2010 (Forum)
In the Roomster all seats are individually adjustable, all three can be removed individually or folded forward as per most hatch/estate cars. Driving experience... from the driving position in the Roomster you have a thick A pillar which restricts the view when looking right, the Meriva uses the "small window" type of front, but if anything this makes matters worse as the window is pretty useless making the blind spot even bigger in the Meriva. -
DPF Q&A -- sheds some light 1 Aug 2009 (Forum)
Under constant conditions, i.e. the exhaust temperature necessary for regeneration always lies above the required value, for example during motorway/cross-country driving, the average regeneration time is 10 minutes. b.) Vehicle conditions such as long down-hill descents, frequent driving in the low-load range (city driving, idling) allow the exhaust temperature to fall. -
Nissan X-Trail (2007 - ) - J D power 2009 xtrail 14 Jun 2009 (Forum)
So i can only assume that the survey covered both models, so doesn't that make the results a nonsense? Then it ends " to round off a fairly poor performance, customers weren't impressed with the driving dynamics, fuel economy or high servicing and repair costs either" Don't these people test drive a car before they buy? I found the xtrail good to drive for a suv, i moved from a A4 audi quattro avant. -
Volvo XC90 (2002 - ) - 2003 2.9L Transmission problems 25 Mar 2009 (Forum)
They said that the gearbox had a sticky solenoid and that one of the clutch plates was worn down almost to nothing. The car now drives well and the gear changes are smooth etc. The only problem I now have is that the car doesn't seem to behave properly in certain instances as follows: When driving at low speeds (<40mph) and I take my foot off the gas pedal, the engine revs drop down to about 600rpm, when I then press on the gas pedal again, the revs shoot up to say 1500rpm and the car accelerates properly and feels quite normal. -
main dealer-do they really want to sell me a car? 23 Aug 2007 (Forum)
Today I visited a main dealer to test drive the petrol and diesel versions of a car I am interested in. Made an appointment in advance and arrived at 2pm as agreed. When I got there, it was very busy, so I stood waiting for 30 mins. I asked to speak to another salesman but none were available - even though other staff were around. -
Snow experience and skid pan? 13 Nov 2001 (Forum)
But the electronic goodies it had were ABS of course but also traction control and some sort of ESP stability system, In the drive north it rained hard then froze, so it was really patchy, one minute wet roads, next minute it all went quiet and you were on sheet ice. Careful driving kept it on the island, the only real difficulty being the Focus' lousy sticky throttle action. -
ID3 initial impressions. 26 Sep 2025 (Forum)
I’ll report back once I’ve switched off the unnecessary and distracting lane assist nonsense and had a drive without it trying to veer me into hedges. -
BMW I3 - I bought a used BMW I3- a story to be updated . 13 Sep 2025 (Forum)
Yet to read manual and don't yet know more than 1% of IDrive system which controls all electronics.. Simple You Tube guide helped me drive it with no issues. Conclusions: easy to drive, quiet, comfortable economical and blistering acceleration (0-60mph in 8 seconds). Comfortable., ride smoother than reviews suggested.. Parking in tights spaces fine. -
New car privacy concerns 23 Jul 2025 (Forum)
I’m also concerned about how telemetry data might affect warranty claims or even lead to penalties for speeding based on my driving patterns. The new & upcoming EU and UK Data acts that include provisions for vehicle telemetry data, also does not instill confidence on how our car telematics data is going to be used by external organisations. -
Peugeot 208 2015 1.2VTI - ESP/ASR fault, diagnostic shows C1638 & C1135- EPS 9 May 2023 (Forum)
Apologies if this is a repost, forum search didn't help. We bought a 2015 "Style" (1.2 VTI) from a dealer last week for my daughter to drive. All seemed good, car drove well on the test drive, documentation was good, a basic OBD scan by me showed no OBD-based faults. So we bought it. On the drive home, the dashboard EPS fault light illuminated, and the infotainment screen then popped up to tell me I had an ESP& ASR fault, and then a "steering system faulty" message. -
Serious advice needed....Drink driving 9 Apr 2023 (Forum)
After a few drinks i decided to drive my self off a motorway into some trees with the intention of ending my situation. I was obviously taken to hospital with injuries and was in and out of consciousness. -
Kia Sportage Vs Skoda Karoq (and others) 6 Nov 2022 (Forum)
I have considered every car in existence and test driven the following: Kia Proceed - Drives beautifully, looks great, interior OK, very low to the ground and probably a bit bumpy on country lanes. Seat Leon PHEV - Very grey inside and a bit characterless to drive. Awkward transitions between engines and too happy to kickdown. -
Compact SUV Possibly Hybrid - Please Clue Me Up 13 Aug 2021 (Forum)
Otherwise motoring is mostly on skinny and not very well maintained country lanes with a little village and town driving as well. We rarely do more than 150 mile round trip. I'm looking for a higher driving position as I'm short and find that helps, good visibility all round, nothing too tinny. Something to bridge the gap as the cars I've been driving have been chalk and cheese except for how well they've served me. -
TOYOTA AYGO - Loud Grinding Noise - TOYOTA AYGO 20 Jul 2021 (Forum)
I immediately pulled over and then continued for a little while longer (no noise at idle). The noise sadly returned when driving off again and I swiftly returned home. Luckily I was just a street away so was very very lucky otherwise I would have been in deep trouble stranded far away from home. So was this a gearbox problem? -
Quickest way towards the driving test in the uk. 13 Feb 2017 (Forum)
Drove hundreds of thousands of miles in different countries, mountains, ice, you name it. Never had an accident in my life. Came to the UK and the law allows me to drive for a year on my foreign licence after which I have to take the test. I used up that year and drove some 15k miles commuting from london to reading 3 times a week and on road trips as far out as north Scotland In the meantime I have become a UK resident and because of bureaucratic reasons I was not allowed to drive since September.
