Tailgating cameras 3 Nov 2006 (Forum)
I'm imagining some vertically mounted thing over the road that looks for clear space between vehicles. Needs some intelligence to differentiate between something on tow and the next vehicle vehicle, but that doesn't seem insurmountable. £60 fine if too close twice in a row over 100 yards or something perhaps? If such a thing happened, would you be pro or anti, and would that be the same as your view on Those Other Cameras? -
Ford friendly independant Woking area? 3 Oct 2006 (Forum)
My gf's Fiesta Zetec was just out of warranty when the car started running badly and the engine management light came on. Had it towed to Dagenham Motors in Byfleet who did a reasonable job and changed the coil. Today, a couple of months later, the light is back on but no apparent misfiring or poor running this time. In fear of the car developing large bills at a Ford main agent, can anyone recommend an independant local to Woking/Weybridge that would be able to plug in and diagnose the reason for the light again or are we better off going back to DM? -

How much!!! 8 Apr 2005 (Forum)
There's also that annoying tendancy for manufacturers not to protect the radiator so if a stone enters via a large slot in the bumper...you could be in for a wait for a tow plus a non-warrantied bill for £200+ this could be really inconvenient if a it leaves you stranded next to the M25 at South Mimms when your missus is 8mths pregnant... Next will be the A/C condensor right next to the radiator... -
Toyota Landcruiser 4.2TD 19 Jun 2003 (Forum)
Anyone care to value a private sale 156,000 mile 4.2VX TD Auto 93L Landcruiser, full toyota service history, no towing or off road, alloys are all surface corroded where laquer has gone and leather seats are cracked and bolster has gone on drivers side. Drives well enough, little smoke. I know these cars are tough like all toyotas and were expensive new but the guy wants £8500 I figure £5250 as a start. -
Car for 1000 miles a week 1 Jul 2002 (Forum)
I don't want to spend more than £1000 but it would be an advantage if it had some resale value or could tow a 1000 kg trailer / car combo. I want it reasonably comfortable and the roads I'm covering don't need performance but an 80 to 85 cruise might be useful. Any suggestions / things to watch out for please? -
Fiesta tdci - Will Carbon Clean treatment fix an injector issue? 16 Oct 2017 (Forum)
We did run some Wynn's Extreme 3 through it a year ago but did not help the idle. I thought about getting some bg244 for £20 but if we break down again cannot get towed for the same fault plus it might push more junk from the fuel tank through the injector. -
Rover V6 - Poor garage services 6 Jun 2012 (Forum)
I am now wanting to visit in the morning and give an ultimatum to the garage to have the car ready by Thursday 5pm otherwise I want the car back, whatever condition and will get towed to a local (my garage tried and trusted) to complete. Anybody had anything like this happen to them before. Where is the best place to organise a tow that will not cost the earth. Legally what do we pay him for the work done so far. -
Ford Mondeo TDCI 130 Ghia X - Mk3 Mondeo TDCI 130 Catestrophic Engine Failure 1 Sep 2010 (Forum)
It appears to be electrical related as the engine doesn't even turn over, instead the dashboard lights up like a christmas decorations, turns the fan on and off and central locking appears to go wild and then settles and nothing happens..!! My wife thankfully managed to tow me home (that was a experience, she's never towed before!) and i've disconnected the battery overnight to see if it resets the issue. I've called in a favour it's having a diagnostic check on Wednesday 1st Sept, BUT i really could do with finding out sooner - any advice or guidance would be appreciated... i've run out of patience and money! -
ford focus 2001 - front coil springs, shock absorbers problems 22 May 2010 (Forum)
Wierd as it was working perfectly the day before! Basically i told her to check it our online before getting it towed to the nearest garage but she wouldnt listen. she just found out that she needs the front coil springs replaced, a pair of front shock absorbers done, both front brake discs and pads, a tracking check and also a new battery. -
Daewoo Matiz (1998 - 2004) - 00 800 Jumped timing belt? 24 Jan 2010 (Forum)
He got me to turn the engine over while he fiddled under the bonnet until it made a loud bang and he quickly withdrew his hand. It still wouldn't start properly so he towed me to my garage and told the owner that he thought that "the timing belt is jumping a tooth" and also that he had "tried Easy Start and it locks". The garage was too busy to take the car so he towed me back home but my question now is: if I had only had a faulty battery and had driven perfectly normally for about a mile, did this second AA man cause the jumped belt (not a common fault, surely?) -
Peugeot 307 SW (2002 - 2008) - 03 2.0 HDi SW SE - Non starter 9 Jan 2010 (Forum)
The car has been a non starter four times this past week and towed twice in one week to a garage with no fault being diagnosed (no fault codes are displayed). Please forgive my ignorance of the technicalities of cars being of the female species..... The car turns over however does not start. -
Ford S-MAX (2006 - ) - petrol or diesel? 25 Jan 2009 (Forum)
Our annual mileage in the vehicle will be around 15k, short journeys urban in the week, with regular long stints on the motorway at the weekends. We also have to tow our 1325kg caravan about 10 times a year. We have had diesels for a while, but with all the DPF, DMF etc debate I'm not sure it's worth it. In the S-Max, the 2.0 diesel would suffice but I would really like the 2.2 for a bit more shove especially towing. -
Citroen Berlingo Multispace (1998 - 2010) - 04 1.9D Cam belt 2 Jul 2008 (Forum)
However, friends in the motor trade tell me that I should pursue the matter on the grounds that the car is not fit for purpose and the cambelt should not fail after 17K. At present the car is at a small garage where it was towed to as the main dealer was closed by the time I got home. They have confirmed the diagnosis as best they can without stripping it down. Can anyone advise me as to the best course of action? The vehicle will need towing again to get it to the main dealer. -
Starting a flooded engine! 24 Mar 2008 (Forum)
The engine turns smoothly, but does not fire at all. Any other suggestions, before I have to get the car towed off again! Thanks "One of my readers has written to Charles Moore, editor of The Daily Telegraph, trying to get me fired for the advice I gave about this. But there are a couple of ways to get a flooded catalysed car started. -
Replacement for Merc w124 Estate? 10 Jan 2007 (Forum)
My wife will only drive an auto, and likes that you can see all the corners of the merc and it is narrow. I need it to tow the small trailer with a very very light sports car on it (my 230 te has an extra auto box cooler). It needs to be happy going long distances with lots (ish) of kit. I love the quietness of the 230 and its quality feel even now it is old. -
Tuning Diesel Methods (How ?)& Insurance 31 Aug 2006 (Forum)
Generally town driving, but some , longer trips to holiday home in N. Wales, and also possily towing a large caravan maybe just onvce a year - so real mix of uses, and quite like a car that has plenty of low-down grunt and not having to work the gears !!!! -
Hyundai i40 - Gear Linkage Issue 24 Jun 2022 (Forum)
They now want me to pay £220 for a repair he couldn't even do? They suggest I get the car towed to hyundai to replace who have quoted £360 + the part to repair. -
Hyundai Santa Fe - Cost of owenership 22 Jul 2019 (Forum)
The all-in costs for service, repairs (brake pads & discs at 60K), tyres (a set of Michelins at 41K) and depreciation have been £257 per month of ownership. Could have been worse. Had a good dealer too. Great car, used for towing and you could drive all day and still get out at the end able to move (I'm not in the first flush of youth let's say!). -
All makes - Fold up cycles 27 Dec 2017 (Forum)
Realised that taking bikes on a carrier for a trip out or a weekend away just isn't working. Firstly with no tow bar it means fiddling with straps etc and anxious moments looking in the rear view mirror to see if a Raleigh Tourer has been dropped in the carriageway. Then finding a safe place to store the bike at the hotel.
