  My local BMW dealer was likewise mystified, and failed both to reproduce the effect or suggest a reason. In all other respects the car has started and run totally reliably.

  After a local VW agent rebuilt the gearbox due to failed diff cluster bearings the noticed the throttle body to manifold rubber gasket was slit and changed same. Since this the engine feels a little rough both cold i.e. in choke mode and when running at normal temps the engine continues to feel slightly harse when on the cruise. The garage had rechecked the engine and run some diagnostics but no fault found. I've run a tank of loaded injection cleaner and different fuels.

  It has developed a fault, that after more then a journey of 5 miles, when engine temperature has been achieved, if you stop, the car will not start for 10 minutes to 1 hour plus. The car never cuts out whilst driving, runs perfectly. When trying to start the car, the engine will turn for as long as the battery would last. When it does start, tyhe car fires up and runs perfectly, no miss-fire, nothing wrong. When the car will not start the fuel pump is definatley not running.

  When I have tried smaller more economical cars (Fiesta, Skoda, Renault 19) I have certainly spent less on petrol but have ended up spending much more on repairs. What cars do you recommend that could be purchased for little money, could run for 20,000 in a year without wearing out (as my smaller cars have always seemed to) and return in excess of 35mpg? I'd also like to be able to pick up spares/service parts easily and cheaply.

  Sometimes even giving it a lot of gas doesnt work.  The engine light then also normally comes on.  Once it starts back up and it runs for a couple more minutes its fine and runs without any problems.  It can then be left for a few hours and no problem.  Next day if its cold again same problem.  Also before it loses power it starts to shudder.

  Hi people new to this . But have run out of ideas ..... Well here goes I've got a Citroen dispatch 04 plate had it for a while and just recently last week it started losing power and making bad rattling sound and heavy blue smoking !!!
• Ford Fiesta (Endura-E) - Sudden large valve clearance? 4 Jun 2014 (Forum)
  I've got a P-Reg Ford Fiesta with Endura-E engine.  Just before Christmas, on a run into London, it started running really rough. I was able to drive it home (about 100 mile), but it was sounding pretty rough the whole way. I've just had a look at it to see if I can figure out what's wrong.

  This results in the matrix working for a period but will then become 'air locked' again. Also the bleed point on the thermostat housing, when opened after the engine has been running releases a fair amount of hot air and steam before water appears. The level in the header tank drops simultaneously as the air is released. I have bled the system numerous times..both with the engine running and not running.

  Its on an Alhambra 1.9 TDi (115 bhp) SE with climate control. Few months ago i noticed that although around town the aircon works fine, at some point on a long run (ie 90 miles) it stops working. So as a starting point decided to have the aircon serviced as it was due - about 3 years. Anyway no problems reported. Garage looked at the diagnostics too and no faults found.

  in a previous post I asked about vibration from the clutch, but now that I have had chance to take the newly aquired 166 TS for a long run of 200 miles I have come to the conclusion that what I thought was some low end vibration from the clutch or drive train is in-fact rough running. The exhaust is particularly throaty/bordering on excessively noisy (well in comparison with my old 164), especially under hard acceleration or when pulling up hill etc, it has a slight vibration right through the rev range but again worse under acceleration and worst of all it is only returning 25mpg at a steady 75 (Well according to the trip computer anyway).

  Local independent garage replaced coils and the car seemed to work for a week. Then suddenly it started the "coughs" again but could run for several miles to home. We took it for a short test run when it stalled. The garage towed it in again and had been looking at it for a week but could not fix it and gave up. They claim that unlike during the first visit the diagnostic tool did not show any error codes.

  Two blokes I know do nothing to their cars, zilch, nada, a Mazda Mx5 20 years old and a Jag S type pretty old. Jag cost about £800 and has merrily gone on for two years or so. Jag guy just runs them til they break and buys another, how they don't just stop running I don't know.

  i have a renault scenic 1.9dci (54) plate which is struggling to start, when started will not tick over and seems to be only running on 3 cylinders, at high revs it runs fine but when at low revs it cuts out and struggles to restart, any help would be most appreciated please

  Hi, The dealer says that the SAAb 9-5 HOT will run on 'ordinary' unleaded but the car manual says its requires 98 RON which super unleaded. Obviously I will play safe and go with the book, but is there scope for running 95 RON? Regards. FTF

• '98 Fiat Ducato - no indicators/ hazards 30 Aug 2006 (Forum)
  Indicators and hazards packed up tonight. They are run off seperate fuses so I'm doubting its a fuse problem Does everything point to a flasher unit? Do the hazards and flashers typically run off one flasher unit? I'm trying to get some clues before having a look in the morning.

  My 2002 Passat diesel after about 30 secs after switching on ignition ( engine running or not) flashes the "glow plug " warning light and the message "engine workshop" appears , the glow plug light keeps flashing , the car starts and seems to run as normal except for the flashing light ??
