  • Cut out when starting 29 Dec 2002 (Forum)
I have to blip the throttle to keep it running for a few seconds then it idles at 1200rpm. I have changed all the plugs and leads but no improvement (I did not think it would improve as it did not misfire but I thought I would give it a try anyway). No engine light but could it be ECU problems or anything else? Thanks, Garrison
  • CD Changer 18 Jan 2002 (Forum)
I've purchased the relevant Panasonic changer to connect to the VW Gamma unit in my '97 Passat, and ordered the connection lead via Halfords ; Does the Passat come pre wired from head unit to boot, and if so, where's the multi connector located in the boot? As an update on the BX I've discovered the reason it doesn't go quickly is the accelarator mounting bracket is bent (common problem apparently) after it's fixed tomorrow I'll see if I can reach a speed camera triggering velocity.
  • Mondeo 1.8 Pinking 16 Jan 2002 (Forum)
Further to a thread in the past my 99 Mondeo 1.8 is still pinking on normal unleaded (fine on optimax) I have replaced the plugs and HT leads, ran three doses of VAG fuel additive through the system and reset the ecu by disconnecting the battery for half a day. Incidentally, since disconnecting the battery and resetting the ECU the pinking seems to be worse (I might be imagining it though.)
  • Omega Fuses/Relays 15 Jan 2002 (Forum)
There are masses of relays and a few fuses in a box next to the battery - but none of the relays or fuses are identified - which leads me to the wider question: Does anyone have a list or layout of which relays and fuses are located where? I've had a quick look in the archive but can't see anything obvious. Feedback much appreciated.
  • Rough running from cold 9 Oct 2001 (Forum)
It's fine one it's warmed up and this only happens when starting in the morning. A friend has suugested some overnight damp may be getting into the distributor leads - is this likely? What can I do to fix this - it's only started happening since it got damp and cold overnight. cheers
  • 1994 Fiesta - sudden dead battery 7 Dec 2006 (Forum)
Garage called us back saying they weren't good enough with electrics to diagnose the problem, but they charged the battery overnight and my wife was able to start it this morning at the garage and drive home. By the time I got home a few hours later, it was all dead as a dodo again. I connected my jump leads to it and started it up, then disconnected the jump leads. Immediately the main lights dimmed and the engine laboured a bit, but it kept going. Inside, no dashboard lights at all. Revving the engine caused a fan-belt (or alternator belt?
  • Recommend a battery charger? 26 Jul 2021 (Forum)
Hello, I'm wiondering if anyone could recommend a good but reasonably-priced battery charger? I have an old charger which is fine for my old car with a lead acid battery, but I believe they aren't suitable for AGM and EFB batteries.  I need one that will do for both as my wife's car has the AGM battery and mine has an EFB and start/stop usage. I saw good review for the Maypole battery chargers but upon enquiring with them they told me that their products are not suitable for EFB batteries.
  • Ford Fiesta ecoboost 1.0 - Car Intermittently not starting 25 Sep 2019 (Forum)
Hi, my car failed to restart after parking. I was helped by a person with jump leads, and the next day following the fitting of a new battery and new ignition switch the problem still persists Intermittently. The main dealer checked it for four hours but the diagnostics could not find a fault.
  • Windscreen life 1 Jul 2018 (Forum)
Puzzled how its picked up so many pinprick pits, (no chips or cracks), I asked my mate who runs a body shop about replacing it, but his advice was to leave it as is because in his experience not all screen replacements are done with enough care and can lead to problems. (understandable with bonded screens). Anyone had experience or recommendations?

  • Jaguar XJ8 - ECM change 11 Jun 2015 (Forum)
If I disconnect the battery for 24 hours or more, the problem seems to fix itself but soon returns leading me to think I have an ECM problem. If I replace the ECM with a second hand unit, do I also need the key and barrel from the donor car? Thanks in advance.
  • 2001 Focus 1.6 ghia - Throttle position sensor maybe? 16 Feb 2015 (Forum)
The revs are being erratic again or idling at 1k. In the past year I have changed the breather hose, icv, ht leads, plugs, speed sensor (Twice) and coil. Please help. Getting frustrated now. I am to believe it may be an issue with the TPS as this may cause similar issues with the idle. There is no EML on or any errors reporting with my scanning device.
  • Peugeot 405 Diesel - fuel filter housing leak 24 Sep 2014 (Forum)
It is a small white round piece at the bottom of the black plastic filter housing, on another site info I have read leads me to believe that is coming from a thermostat at the bottom of the housing. I have not been able to find any info online in regards to this part, or how to repair or replace. anyone familiar with this?
  • VW Golf Mk 2 Match 1988 - Unleaded petrol 15 Aug 2014 (Forum)
My friend is convinced she needs to put Super Unleaded in her 1988/9 (G) VW Golf Mk2 Match.  She thinks this is because leaded petrol is no longer available and that somehow 'super unleaded' is the only alternative.  I cannot convince her she is wasting money and time (looking for a super u/l pump) by not using ordinary unleaded petrol.
  • 2011 Ford Mondeo 2.0 tdci - glow plug relay 29 Jul 2014 (Forum)
I bought a 2011 ford Mondeo 2.0tdci. The car is running really well but I have discovered that the lead  from the glow plug relay that runs down past the alternator shows some damage just accross from the alternater bearing. i would like to replace this cable but I am not sure if its part of the engine wiring loom of if a section of this can be replaced.
  • Audi A4 B6 TDi 2002 - Battery Charging in-situ/Replacement 10 Feb 2014 (Forum)
As the drive is on a slope and I'm unable to get a 2nd car alongside, is it OK to charge the battery in situ? Are there any precausions i need to take, ie disconnecting the car leads and what possible problems may arise (radio code aside). As soon as I get the thing going first stop a new battery, any recommendations? Any advice gratefully recieved.
  • Ford Mondeo Mk3 2Lt petrol Duratec - Low-load misfire 9 Oct 2012 (Forum)
The engine has new Plugs, Leads & Coil Pack to successfully cure a misfire. I now have a jerky engine (misfire?) when running along with the engine just keeping up with the road speed (much more dramatic in 4th rather than 5th) - the slightest acceleration and on overrun seems to be OK.
  • any - 40 mph speed limit on 'quiet' rural roads 17 Jul 2012 (Forum)
There is a road junction on the hill above Rainow, near Macclesfield, where there is a 30 mph sign for the major road almost next to a national maximum speed limit (60 mph) on the lane leading off.  If anybody tried to do any speed at all on that lane it would be a short cut to the cemetary for someone.
