Zafira and faulty petrol 31 Mar 2007 (Forum)
Do I need to go to the main dealer? Will Morrisons foot the bill for all these problems and a new ECU unit if needed? Anyone got any experience of these problems that shows it was or wasn't the ECU? Incidentally, once the car is running warm it does seem to be running not too badly apart from the drinking of petrol and the emissions light on. -
Problems with Peugeot406 Eng Mgmt System 21 Mar 2006 (Forum)
Once the engine has warmed up, then tt is fine. If the outside temp is around 4/5 degrees C, then even this doesnt happen. The ECU itself is a Bosch EDC15C2, and I have the print out from analyser from the last time it was looked at. It says: "Intermittent fault. Accelerator pedal signal 2. Signal short circuited to earth." Seems to me that there's either a specific wiring fault that can be corrected without changing the whole loom, or the ECU itself is toast and needs changing. -
Pug 306 1.8 XU7 emissions control? 12 Oct 2002 (Forum)
I don't intend to let curiosity get the better of me, and remove the insert, until I know what is on the other side. ECUs tend to be expensive! Many thanks, Steve -
Ford B max 1.4 zetec 2013 - Not starting 20 Oct 2023 (Forum)
No warning lights showing, but Garage "suspect" instrument cluster problem (apparently common) repair cost if unit sent off about £150 ish + vat plus labour to remove etc. Ford main dealer will obviously be more if a new instrument cluster. Other thoughts are ECU failure New ECU is abot £750 plus vat plus fitting, but all of the above depend on Ford dealer diagnostics. There is an indie with access to the software but 4 week wait. Thoughts, especially Eleki and AC doc? -
Vauxhall astra 1.9 - Astra electric issues 24 Oct 2021 (Forum)
Including the 80amp strip fuse and the larger fuses above the fusebox. Could it be no power going to fusebox? Where does the fusebox get it's power? From ecu? Thanks -
Ford Fiesta MK6 1.4TDCI - Ford Fiesta Stalling 26 Apr 2021 (Forum)
I took it to the garage when it started it doing it and they couldnt find any errors. They blamed the ECU, however they admitted that it might not be the cause, and therefore they adviced me to use it until it gets worse and hopefully they could find some kind of error on the system. Ive got no problem in changing an ECU, however I would like it to be 100% clear that the problem will be fixed before I go through the expense. -
Ford Fiesta Mk4 1.25 16V 1999 - Coolant temperature sensor / gauge 20 Aug 2018 (Forum)
So unless there's another coolant sensor I can't see I assume the sender unit connects to the ECU which has a relay output to control the radiator cooling fan and a signal output to drive the gauge. If I'm correct then either there's a wiring fault or the ECU is faulty. Does anyone have any wiring information for this vehicle? -
Galaxy EcoBoost Powershift Reversing Lights Failed 5 May 2016 (Forum)
A live feed is coming off gearbox to control unit when in reverse, although it's hard to trace whether it's a multi pole switch that may have a separate feed for the reversing lights - all extremely complex and may even be an internal switch on powershift gearboxes? I have disconnected battery for an hour to do an ECU reset and still no change. There are no fault codes present. The auto electrician and local garage are suggesting an ECU module change, so a very expensive fix. It's a post Feb 2010 so everything is module controlled rather than conventional switches, relays and fuses. -
hyundai i40 - supermarket fuel VS branded long term test review 17 Mar 2016 (Forum)
I wanted to see if I was paying over the auds using bp ultimate or if I could get the same results for 10p cheaper. I filled up with supermarket fuel, let it go to half a tank, filled up again and re-set my ecu. I then did my normal run on the motorway where I average 67.5 MPG. With supermarket this dropped to 61.2MPG. Around town my normal was 55 MPG, again with supermarket fuel this dropped to as little as 41MPG. -
Audi Cabriolet 2.6 V6 final edition 1999 - Instrument Panel 8 Aug 2015 (Forum)
To this end I Recently had the original cluster repaired and tested (everything worked correctly) by ECU testing ,and refitted to the car. Now I find that the Temp and Fuel gauges work but do not show the correct readings (both to Low). Everything else is fine. Only the temp gauge was faulty when the cluster was originally removed. -
Vauxhall Astra 1.6 SXI - Engine light on and flashing 14 Jul 2015 (Forum)
My son's Astra 1.6 SXI 52 plate has its amber engine light come on and then flashes and goes into limp mode, easy fix you would think. Firstly we had the car in a garage and ecu fault codes checked, came up with coil pack, I replaced that but no difference found, booked it into Vauxhall main dealer garage and they diagnosed the coil pack. They replaced the coil pack and plugs suprise suprise still the same, they then said it was the ECU so they tried that, Oh oops still the same, next came the big suprise sorry we're stumped so there we are still stuck only saving grace is he's only had to pay for 2 diagnostic's, the car is back on its origonal coil pack. -

2005 Picasso Hdi 50k miles - Citroen Picasso engine management light 26 Jul 2013 (Forum)
I'd have got it one for a day and light would have came on again, but they said the diagnostic machine always through up a different fault, Fuel pressure sensor has also been replaced, Engine management light came on again and it was decided to replace the ECU ... All sensors, tests and ECU has cost over £1000! Diving the car home tonight and low and behold the engine management light has came on again!! Can anyone help me as to what it maybe??? The light comes on and the car appears to lose power but will drive very slowly .... -
Astra G 1.8 16V Sxi - Misfires, surging and hesitation 13 Jun 2013 (Forum)
I bought it privately and was told going in that there was an issue with O2 sensor. £300 later and the O2 sensor wasn't the issue, someone had been monkeying with the ECU and had bent a pin. The ECU has been remapped, the O2 sensor replaced etc. That was 6 weeks ago and the car has been fine ever since. -
Volkswagen Golf V - GOLF V 1.9 TDI hot start - how to remap? 12 Nov 2012 (Forum)
If this is all correct then I would be really grateful for a recommendation for where I can get this done nr South/West London and how much it is likely to cost? Please assume I know nothing about ECU fiddling!! -
vauxhall corsa sri - maf sensor 18 Aug 2012 (Forum)
now if you unplug the sensor it runs fine, and the only suggestion the garage has is to change the ecu, but i have read that it could be just a simple re earth of the sensor wire, however my garage are reluctant to do this in case they make things worse, but im not happy to pay out for a new ecu if it is just the earth wire, so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, cheers -
renaut grande espace - renaut espace electrical nightmare 26 Nov 2010 (Forum)
Once ECU replaced car would start but electric throughout car had gone - automatic handbreak, dashboard, AC etc. car was moved to renaut garage and has been away from us for about 8 weeks in total. We feel that this was probably caused by them although they say these things happen in such cars. -
Rover 618 (T reg) - Stupidly inserted red key in ignition 24 Apr 2010 (Forum)
I know now that because i decided to use the red key that i have totally wiped out the memory of the black keys in the ECU. Is this correct? I had an autolocksmith come out and look at it yesterday but he said the immobiliser is reading the black key. I have since been informed that the black keys need to be reprogrammed to the ECU, how do i now get this done? -
Ford Mondeo II (1996 - 2000) - 00 2.5 Alternator problem - need advice ASAP 9 Jul 2009 (Forum)
My mate is at a bit of a loss as he thinks it unlikely that he'd get two faulty alternators in a row! Any tips on what is the likely problem? The sparky is on holiday but has suggested a possible ECU fault if it is sending the wrong signals for charg e levels but it's flickering several times a second, I'm not sure even a faulty ECU could send such rapid signals? Any help appreciated! -
Vauxhall Astra G Petrol (1998 - 2004) - 02 1.6 Car cutting out (recurrent fault) 10 Jan 2009 (Forum)
Unfortunately, the same issue has started to happen again, and I am 100% sure it is the EGR vavle again. The mechanic at Vauxhall mentioned that it could be an issue with my ECU that was causing the EGR valve to fail. My question is whether it is feasible for the ECU to cause the EGR valve to fail over time? Any help on getting to the root cause of this issue is much appreciated, as this is becoming a very frustrating problem.
