  • Small Cars are Unsafe 26 Jan 2002 (Forum)
From Physics, force is equal to mass times acceleration, so it fits the heavier car will exhibit the more force. Is this a ploy by the government not to put peopleoff buying so called "super minis" ?
  • Shopping for auntie dear. 3 Sep 2020 (Forum)
The Jazz was instantly swatted aside by auntie who decided it wasn’t high enough, this despite having no mobility issues what so ever and the car being maybe an inch shorter than the Mini she drives now and has decided is too bulky for her?? Front runner down. The Kia Venga is again passed by for its styling, he wouldn’t even sit in it. The related Hyundai was also ignored. I’m fast running out of options.
  • Useless car dealers & useful specialist 13 Mar 2018 (Forum)
He said avoid the petrol because they were trouble, I'd not realised it was the BMW unit.  Think you will find that BMW used the Peugeot 1600 petrol in the Mini and the 116/316. BMW now use their own 3 cylinder petrol in these. Think you have just found the least knowledgeable Peugeot salesman in the land. If he tells you a pack of nonsense about the engines origin what chance is there of getting a honest car.
  • Ford Mondeo 2.0 petrol - Buying a high mileage Ford Mondeo 4 Jan 2013 (Forum)
It says history is patchy, but wondered if there was anything in particular that I need to look out for on a car this age (11 years, 140k). Obviously if I got it, I'd do a mini service of all filters, plugs, fluids etc.
  • what is the best / worst automatic car ? 21 May 2009 (Forum)
I was just wondering what the best / worst automatic car was that anyone has owned / drove (recent or in the past). although a bit before my time, I did hear that the mini was an economical car in autobox form (I could be wrong but this is what I heard). I have heard that a 1.6L mark 4 Cortina automatic was a terrible car. very underpowered and drank fuel. So are there any better / worse ones ?

  • Cars and Stripes 10 Oct 2007 (Forum)
I'm seeing more and more cars with two stripes running front to back on them. The cars are usually blue, the stripes usually white. I've seen it on lots of Minis but it doesn't seem to be model specific (also Focii, Peugeots etc). Was it the Italian Job remake (which I never saw)? A new version of Starsky & Hutch that I've missed? Or just a fashion statement, like a Mullet haircut?
  • moms corsa 53 plate - price for gearLink 31 May 2007 (Forum)
I have found the kit as £42 from vauxhallparts but need a few pointers Is it outside of the gearbox? I have (in my younger years) changed a rear trailing arm on my v reg mini. I am 36 can I do this safely for my dear old mom? Thanks all.
  • UK car industry 18 May 2006 (Forum)
Peugeot are closing shop, rumour on the street in Germany is that Renault and BMW are looking for a place to relocate Nissan and Mini on mainland Europe ,Ford are saying if Land Rover does not improve its curtains and Jaguar are losing money hand over fist. The UK government tried to keep the PSA closure a secret till after the local elections but it was released in both the French and German press.Do you think we will be making cars in ten years I wonder.
  • 03 Transit Torneo Service Light 6 Apr 2006 (Forum)
Hi, have to service a friends 2003 Ford Transit Torneo 1998cc Turbo Diesel mini-bus today. That's all fine but can anyone tell me how to turn out the service light pls? I want to turn it out NOT blow the bulb, but don't have FORD tool to do this......and as it's not a digital odometer the holding in the trip button, turning on ignition, is no good!!!
  • Returning Cat D vehicle to the road 4 Jul 2005 (Forum)
I have a salvage Rover mini that was written off Cat D earlier this year. It's about to go in for repairs, but despite trawling through the DVLA's website I cannot find what the procedure is to re register it. As a Cat D it doesn't require a VIC, but does it still need to be inspected by the DVLA local office ?
  • Setting up an SU carb 19 Oct 2004 (Forum)
Can any of you advise me of any good books or websites which can help me with setting up my SU carb in my Mini. It seems to be running quite rich. There seems to be two adjustment screws on, but I dont know which to turn/which direction to turn them. Got the Haynes manual for the car but it does not say to much about setting the carb so I have come to a stop.
  • New Rangerover-ugly bum 9 Feb 2003 (Forum)
Ther is something thats not right about the design of the rear of the new RR, same thing affects the nem MINI, could they be designed by the same guy at BMW?, discos CRVs Xtrails all look in proportion , but the RR is just wrong. The early RR mk2 had the look of a black cab but it seemed to get sorted later in life.
  • Handbrake Calamity 21 May 2007 (Forum)
Please could someone advise me on whether I have a problem or not. I parked my new (February 2007) mini cooper on my rather steep drive earlier this afternoon and went indoors with the shopping. Ten minutes later there was a very loud bang followed by a car alarm. Needless to say it was mine; the car had aimed itself squarely at the garage and has bent the door (up and over variety) back so that I would imagine a new door will be required.
  • Car for missus 8 Jul 2001 (Forum)
What about the MGF -- are they cheap for a good reason? What else should we consider - I reckon on the Interga type-R, Nissan 200zx, New Mini (Cooper - suspect it will have better resale and gets more kit for not much more money), Ford Puma. I want something that's pretty depreciation resistant - so 3 year old or more for starters (except New Mini), has plenty of go and is fun for her to drive (so she stops pestering me to let her drive my Caterham..).
  • MINI Cooper 51 plate - Parked Car Hit from Behind 29 Apr 2015 (Forum)
To be fair, both he and the other driver stopped and had already given their insurance details to the police(who only had to stroll over the road in order to attend) by the time I turned up, having left work. So far so good. So I get the car recovered to the local Mini Dealer which is round the corner from my workplace. I notified my insurer the same evening for 'information purposes only'. I then get onto the third party(i.e the bloke who hit my car) insurer.

All well and good, the potential problem will be just how reliable and durable will it be. Mini SIM cards are not very robust, typically only reliable for a max of about 3 months continuous recording, after which there is likely to be gaps in the recorded journey. This is from personal experience.
  • Funniest Car Action Scenes 18 May 2009 (Forum)
Anyone else remember when he was in that car park and had lost his ticket so waits for someone to drive in then guns the Mini and makes the other car reverse back so he can get out and being a three wheeler the other car topples over?!
  • Nissan Micra (1992 - 2003) - 2000/120k What is it worth? 22 Oct 2008 (Forum)
He has an X reg Micra with over 120k on the clock. The local dealer does not want it as a P/X against an 05 Mini and suggested he sell it privately. Anyway he asked me what I thought it was worth and I suggested £1000. He was rather annoyed at this and suggested it was worth nearer £2500. Any ideas?
