moms corsa 53 plate - price for gearLink - tiredeyes
Hello All.
How much is labor for changing a gear selector linkage kit?
I have found the kit as £42 from vauxhallparts
but need a few pointers

Is it outside of the gearbox?
I have (in my younger years) changed a rear trailing arm on my v reg mini.
I am 36 can I do this safely for my dear old mom?
Thanks all.

one of the clamp screws is very low down at the bulkhead, otherwise its pretty much straight forward. you'll definately need a torx bits set, however you could end up needing needing other tools to complete the job. shouldnt be half the price of the part for labour at a workshop

Thanks Sails north, also this is the only cause of her having difficulty getting into 1st and 2nd gear.
or can something else cause this?
and i'm guessing this is first point of call?
How do you tell its worn and needs replacing?
or is it one of those things that dosent look worn, until you replace it
and then 1st & 2nd gear is back to normal.
thanks.

or is there something else lurking on the horizon that spells gearbox...?

actually with this information it could be either of the three clutch- not disengaging, gearlinkage or gearbox- syncros.

with the gearlinkage play develops in the bushes of the linkage or something becomes dislodged, out of place. you can test it by gently pulling/pushing on the various parts of it to see if you can feel any abnormal play. also if possible get someone else to change gears(with engine off) whilst you watch the linkage you should get a good idea if all is well with it.

im not a pro myself, but answers to the following questions should help one of the pro guys pinpoint it for you.
does it have any problems selecting 1st,2nd when the engine is off and you are stationary?
how difficult is the reverse gear to select with engine on?
does any of the gears 'crunch' as you select with engine on?
is the fault always there now and getting worse?
does it ever jump out of gear?

all the best

Asking that set of questions, you aren't doing a bad impersonation of one!

it was the gear selector linkage. the plastic had worn.
very common problem so im told, so common they started to fit metal ones onto 04 plates and newer.
must have been a design fault, or "feature"

fixed by The Griffin Center in Brierley hill, west mids
£100 all in with vauxhall original part (new metal one)
