Focus ST170 - Noise to diagnose... 23 Nov 2006 (Forum)
Any more suggestions greatly appreciated, I hate taking things to a garage without some idea of what might be wrong. It's still under warranty for a few months thankfully.......... Cheers, Chris -
Honda CRV (02) Engine Failure 23 Oct 2011 (Forum)
It was a complete shock and I am not too proud to admit, it frightened the living daylights out of me. The car is just under 5 years old, it has done 56,000 miles, full service history (3 x Honda, 1 x Independent using genuine parts) I had the vehicle removed from the side of the road to a local garage I use for my servicing etc - on visual inspection from this independent garage is that it is a manufactuers fault - engine failure! -
Dealer fixing car but not sure how to 13 Jan 2007 (Forum)
My sisters MGF which will shortly be put up for sale has had an annoying issue with the power steering, notably with the actual assistance rather than the mechaincal bits. Anyway, last autumn, my sister booked it in under warranty and they turned round and said that nothings wrong with it - my whole family had a go at replicating it and all managed in bout 5 seconds, so doesnt say much for the mechanic. Anyhow, it was booked in AGAIN today because I insisted that there was an issue having driven over 500 different MGFs when I used to work with them, I knew something wasnt right with the car. -
2000 Honda Accord paint problems 14 Sep 2003 (Forum)
He's somewhat disappointed that the paintwork doesn't appear to be too resilient to what is a pretty common problem (although he seems to think the colour may be attracting our feathered friends to leave their "autographs"). The car is booked in for its first service next week and is still under it's 12 month standard Honda used warranty, so he will mention it to the dealer - he's not overly bothered with the outcome but will see what they suggest. -
BMW 5 Series - BMW F11 Touring: Air Suspension 1 Oct 2015 (Forum)
Hi all, my car is 2011 f11 525d. Purchased used about 9 months ago. Just occasionally (maybe 5 occasions in that time) I hear a faint noise like an air compressor from behind rear near side bumper.I hear it after driving if I'm stood at the rear of the car. -
VW Golf Estate 2.0 tdi 2009 - EGR 20 Feb 2014 (Forum)
The car is regularly used on motorway/main road runs and infrequently for short, or traffic snarled hops. I have been in discussion with VW Cutomer Care, who admit that this fault usually occurs at mileages around the 100k mark, so my car is unusual. -
Dad finally considering a new ( his last ) car 24 Jul 2008 (Forum)
He said to me today that having had a poke around, the structural rust on his 15 year old Astra is getting MOT worthy now and as such, he is considering buying new, but only if it is long-term cost effective. Essentially, what he wants to do is replace his with a car that will eventually be used by both my mum and him when they go to one car in about 5 years. What he has asked is what can he get that has decent load capacity, cruise control, automatic and air con, but with as low as possible CO2 and decent mpg? -
Insurance after having company car 3 Aug 2007 (Forum)
A friend's wife has had a lease car for the last 5 years. Her 9 year NCB she did have has expired. There has been info before on companies who will take into account driving record whilst using lease cars and will calculate premiums with some NCD. -
Renault's Timing Belt Recommendations 4 Nov 2006 (Forum)
. (146,000) Which is not what Renault recommend. They have given us no answer as to why the full kit was not fitted at the 54,000 point. And they are now saying it was the timing belt that snapped as because it is out of the 12 month warranty (which we were not informed of at the time!) -
Toyota Yaris - New car - first week review 7 Apr 2018 (Forum)
Almost a week since we picked up our Yaris, so a quick review based on the first 200 miles or so. The car replaced a smart forfour 0.9t which we had a year. Failed major components taking ages to fix, warranty jobs not being done while Mercedes had had the car 8 weeks, missing components following a service and a main dealer and HQ operation that really didn’t care, saw us decide the best option was to devolve ourselves of the ‘problem child’! -
Ford Transit (2006 - ) - Transit SportVan Help 4 Nov 2009 (Forum)
I asked ford if they would be able to help me out with the cost of a new van and they refused basically telling me take your full refund and go away. I explained what we do and that we do car shows all year and that we are Ford RS owners club members ect and they still refused. We haven?t had a van for 7 weeks and ford will not give us a curtsey vehicle as warranty will not pay for one and we have been backed into a corner and have to have the van repaired. -

BMW F20 118i Face lift with N13 engine. - Timing chain 13 Sep 2020 (Forum)
Hi I bought my first car around feb 2019, it’s a LCI F20 118i with the N13 engine the cars been great only really had one problem with it which was the hose for the turbo coming loose which brought up a drivetrain error. But I’ve noticed over the past year the cars using a lot of oil between service intervals about 1 litre every 1500-2000 miles and I’ve seen online that high oil usage is a symptom of the timing chain about to go I really like the car but I don’t know if I should try to sell it before it does go or bring it to BMW to have a look at as I’ve bought the extended insured warranty from them and the car was also bought from a BMW dealer. -
Mondeo TD (Endura DE) oil recommendation 25 Jul 2006 (Forum)
Not only does the grade ring alarm bells on such an old design, low tech engine, but I was always led to believe that one should use a dedicated diesel oil in diesel engines because the added detergents perform such an important job. I don't wish to argue with the manufacturer, but I just wondered what you would do on a 117,000 mile car that is now WELL out of warranty? -
Mazda 3 - Mazda 3 2.2 d engine failure - warranty problem 13 May 2015 (Forum)
I didn't confirm straight away, as I wanted to get home and phone the warranty company to confirm that they had actually asked me to approve the diagnostic cost in the event that they decided it wasn't a warranty issue. The reason being the garage I left the car with was the garage that serviced the car at the end of November last year, so I was a little conscious of the possibility they had done something wrong at the service, and may be trying to get out of covering any costs if it was found to be their fault. -
Audi A4 Avant - Washer fluid 11 Mar 2021 (Forum)
I tried probing the nozzles (there are two) with a needle but to no avail so I booked the car into my Audi dealer. I have an extended warranty, so before you all experience a sharp intake of breath, in theory my costs would be limited to the excess. This morning I have been informed that the issue is more than blocked nozzles. -
Toyota - Toyota VVT-I excessive oil consumption-answers! 27 Aug 2013 (Forum)
For older Toyota’s made before about July 2005, Toyota could retrofit these to the existing engine, having extended the warranty on these engines to 6 years. After about July 2005 this fix was applied to new build Toyota’s, so these should not suffer this issue. So, what does this mean if, like me, you were looking at a used petrol Toyota? -
M-B: 1. Bargain oil change 2. Servicing 5 May 2003 (Forum)
Anyway, in case anyone else doesn't yet know, the filter canister in a Mercedes-Benz E320 Coupé is well hidden at the back of the engine and not at all easy to unscrew. And, while I'm here, it may be of use to others to know that I have had written confirmation from RAC Warranty that the extended warranty on the MB does not require main-dealer servicing, provided that "the vehicle is still serviced in accordance with the manufacturer's schedule and that any parts fitted must be main agent parts". -
VW Golf 1.6 FSE - Small claims-consuer rights act 2015 advice 13 Jul 2019 (Forum)
My response was more or less as follows: -They were the ones who suggested Halfords when we bought the car because it had a relationship with the warranty provider, so as we are in a different town we took it there. -The dealer told us we could take it back to them if it needed repairs, but not that we had to, and not that they'd do it for free. -
VW Golf MK6 2.0 TDI GT Clutch Slip 28 Jun 2017 (Forum)
Not bad, but noticeable. I then pulled out of a junction a few miles down the road and I swear the car pulled away about 30% slower than normal. Its booked in with VW in 4 days for them to look at it. I've just checked the warranty and if any damage is found to be our fault, it's not covered under the warranty.
