R reg mondeo verona 1.8 h/b 11 Apr 2007 (Forum)
i have a R reg 1.8 mondeo verona (zetec) engine. the few probs are minor i think so any advice would be gratefully recieved. firstly.........i drive about 15 miles to work in the morning and it doesnt seem to heat up , the temp gauge is showing the needle just over the white cold block, but i still get nice warm air in the car?????. secondly........for a 1.8 it doesnt seem very quick at all, i have to take the revs upto 3500-4000 to get it motoring, when i put my foot down like this sometimes it will jerk / hesitate. thirdly........ even if i drive it sensibly (slow) it seems to be using a lot of fuel. i have no clues to what might be causing the obove so any help would be gratfully recieved as was the last people who helped me. thanks kevin. -

A definative guide to towing 7 Feb 2007 (Forum)
It seems to me the more I look the more complex the issues surrounding towing and its legislations are. Question is I eventualkly started driving proper in the year 2000, I had been holding a prov license since a long time before, Im 30.5 now and got it on my 16/17th b'day but been able to drive since age of 13. I'm perfectly confident in my abilities to tow but since Im going to be towing a lot of cars about soon I thought it best to brush up on the law as theres a distinct difference between a trailer load of vegetation for the tip and a track car on a trailer on the motorway. -
Mondeo Occasional airbag warning light? 17 Jan 2007 (Forum)
I have checked the connections under both seats and all seems well. Will a fault code be stored for each time the warning light has illuminiated when driving? Any other thoughts? -
A question about diesel automatics? 17 Jan 2007 (Forum)
Hi, I'm in the process of choosing my new car and a question has popped into my head and I'm sure that you guys will know the answer. I'm looking for a diesel car that offers good economy driving at 70MPH on the motorway. 85-90% of my driving is on the motorway, long disctance and a constant speed. Very rarely do i do short journeys. My question is concerning auto diesels. When the auto's are crusing at 70MOH, surely thay are in 'top gear', no power loss is being lost by the torque convertor (as it's not needed) so therefore are diesel autos as ecomonical as manual gearboxes when crusing at a constant 70MPH. -
Peug 106 praise 6 Dec 2006 (Forum)
I bought a 95 model (1.1 petrol) in 2002 at 40000 and sold yesterday at 120000 and i found the car very comfortable ( i would ofter drive 4-5 hours a day) and i am 6ft 2, economical (48-50 mpg), and reliable only one non start in five years due to a flat battery. In the time i owned the vehicle other than brakes, tyres( the rears did 80000 miles and still had 3/4 mm tread left) exhaust service items and battery the only things i had to do to the car were as follows 55k head gasket and radiator, 66k wishbones replaced due to worn bushes and ball joints 80k new gearbox / driveshaft seal 9 years old new stereo 96k front offside wheel bearing & drive shaft gaters 112 k offside wishbone due to worn bushes ( only 46k and 3years since done last) i know peug's not everyone cup of tea - perhaps i was lucky- but i thought this was a very good car. -
2,000 miles in my Passat 26 Oct 2006 (Forum)
Water spills onto your shoes when you open the boot if the lid is wet (it runs down the sides and over the bumper) Engine can sound a bit gruff when cold and at low speeds Economy is a bit disappointing at the moment (about 44mpg), I was expecting about 48-50 with my driving style/routes Difficult to check oil level on dipstick - dipstick is black! (no oil used yet as far as I can tell) And so far no problems! Cheers Pat -
being pulled over 20 Oct 2006 (Forum)
In 24 years of driving I've been pulled over four times, twice resulted in SP30'S- fair do's. The other occasions were 1; driving down the M40 @ 23.00, 2 weeks before xmas, fortunately it was deserted, I spotted the cop car coming down the slip road and moved to the middle lane to ease their access. -
This is my parking space 4 Oct 2006 (Forum)
But I didn't, life's too short to get stewed up over a parking space. One day, they will try it with somebody who doesn't simply drive off & find another space. -
214 bad vibration thro steering wheel 28 Aug 2006 (Forum)
Had an issue lately with the brakes as the drivers side caliper had shed its bolts and garage said it must have been due to vibration - not a great experience loosing 1 wheel braking. Has anyone got any ideas as its driving me mad when I drive it and dont really think its safe if its causing things to come loose. -
Golf Mk3 VR6 judder under braking 18 Jul 2006 (Forum)
The juddering is much worse if i am braking on an incline, e.g approaching a roundabout. Sometines feels like the steering wheel is about to come off in my hands. 3. Whilst driving on a smooth surface, going straight, my steering wheel constantly rotates left-right-left very slighlty. 4. When driving 'enthusiastically' on B roads, when going round a left hand curve, i get a strange feeling trough the steering wheel, I can only descibe it as 'scratchy' Does all this point to something specific? -

Going from US licence to UK license ? 20 Apr 2006 (Forum)
Here's the issue's background: I am an italian citizen (born and raised) I spent 6 years in the USA for educational purposes, from August 1999 to May 2005. I got my driving licence in the USA in June 2000. I left the USA in May, went to Italy for the summer, and since September 2006 I am studying in the UK. My USA licence expired in Feburary 2005, but I can still renew it if I fly back to the US. -
Ford Focus Cambelt Change - Fair Price 17 Jan 2006 (Forum)
Hi, I have a 1999/'V' Reg. Ford Focus 2.0 Zetec Ghia 16v with 84,500 on the clock. I am going to get the camshaft drive belt changed although the Ford Warranty & Service Guide supplied with it shows the replacement (I am assuming I have a Zetec-SE), recommended change at 100,000 / 10 years whichever is sooner. (Having had a failed cambelt on a previous car before the recommended replacement mileage, I am not prepared to take any chances) Also, from what I can make out in the Service Guide, the Auxilliary Drive Belt should be changed (PAS pump/Air Con). -

vw costs (golf GTTDi) 8 Nov 2005 (Forum)
Service was as usual expensive but the recommended repairs were astonishing (at least to me who runs a very old and cheap to look after mondeo) "Wishbone bushes starting to seperate" £319.60 "Rear axle bushes parted" £301.97 "Slight play in anti roll bar bushes" £116.32 Now for a car which runs and drives as well as the day we got it I'm not sure I believe there's any significant problem. I also can't believe how high the costs are for a few bushes. I told vw not to bother, I suppose my question is whether anyone knows whether theses bushes truly are costly to replace for some reason and whether if they were gone I should notice this in how the car drives. -
No Timewasters!! 23 Oct 2005 (Forum)
Mobile no only given so if you phoned this conjures up a meeting place in some car park with an oafish dealer holding out his hand for your wedge within 1 minute of your arrival. Heaven forbid if you want a test drive and don't even mention an independent check. You could just imagine the reaction if you had a 30 minute test drive - using up his fuel and then said --- No thanks!! No one wants to deal with punter's who have no intention of buying in the first place but surely this is part of selling any item and it is quite likely that people will view and for genuine reasons decide not to buy. -
Am I asking the Impossible 17 Oct 2005 (Forum)

I have recently started a new job which involves a long drive to work and back every day. this has given me 2 problems the first is that i am spending a forune on petrol- I only have a ford Ka luxury at the moment, but i am thinking of changing to a diesel to try and cut my fuel bills. -
Would I have been arrested? 14 Sep 2005 (Forum)
As I had my wife and two children (baby doesn't count) as witnesses that he got out of the car, walked across the road without looking and stopped in my path, would I have been arrested if I had hit him and possibly seriously injured him? Would I have been believed about his stopping in front of me? I was sorely tempted to drive over him, but realise that this would have prejudiced my position! -- Espada III - well if you have a family and need a Lamborghini, what else do you drive? -
Which Estate? 16 Jun 2005 (Forum)
I currently drive a 3 series BMW but on a recent holiday in this country I found the space lacking for 2 small kids, wife and all the stuff that goes with it! Me thinks I need an estate but which one? My criteria is as follows: 1.I only drive about 11K a year so I believe that may rule out diesels as being a cost effective propsosal so petrol only?
