  • Ford Focus II (2004 - 2007) - 1.6 (115) poor fuel economy..help! 19 Aug 2013 (Forum)
The only problem (apart from a bit of road noise on some surfaces) is that we seem to averaging a mere 32mpg which is pretty damm poor (we've done 3 brim to brim calculations). It's SWMBO who drives it. The usual journey is 4.5 miles of single carrigeway A road followed by two miles of town driving. She doesn't use the air con much and is a reasonably steady driver. It's coming up for a service and obviously we'll make sure that the air filter and plugs are changed and see what happens after that (Tyres pressures are fine).
  • BMW 520 - Replacement for my BMW E39 520i SE 15 Jun 2013 (Forum)

  • VW Golf MK4 1.6 SE Petrol 2002-03 - Cambelt Replacement Best place? 13 Feb 2013 (Forum)
Apart from that, the car has a continuous squealing noise from the alternator /fan belt that doesnt go away. It did go away for a short time after been sprayed but after driving on the highway it went back. Any idea what it could be? the bearings? the pulley? It doesnt seems to be caused by the steering pump. Is it dangerous to drive it in that condition? Any help would be much appreciated!
  • Nissan Juke - Nice little car 18 Jan 2013 (Forum)
Impressions are positive on the family as well as the drivers (SWMBO and myself), with a good ride on balloony tyres (16" steel wheels) and comfortable driving position.  Surprisingly economical for a petrol with a mix of some motorway driving and serious traffic jams equating to about 45mpg.   Considering swapping my wife's five year old A-class for this, also with 1.6 petrol with CVT.
  • BMW 3 Series Touring - Steering Vibration on BMW 19 Oct 2012 (Forum)
I had identical symptoms to the original questioner where v frightening steering  vibration occured for no apparent reason after driving for some time and then following some braking.  The problem was intermitent in occurence, would last for a few minutes and then disappear and had no relation to road surface. It could then reappear again for no apparent reason.
  • Ford Focus 1.8 Duratorq (KKDA) 55 reg TDCI - Ford Focus 1.8 Duratorq engine system fault 20 Jul 2012 (Forum)
Keep the revs below about 2200, accelerate slowly and at normal city driving speeds you would never know there was a fault. Car still delivers 58 MPG plus so efficiency not affected. Turning the ignition off “resets” the light.
  • Citroen Dispatch 2001 1.9d non turbo - Engine won't start after major oil filter leak 16 Apr 2012 (Forum)
Hi, I bought a dispatch van yesterday and the seller advised me that it needed a new oil filter, after driving 110 miles back home all was fine, the van was firing up great and driving well. Today I reached 12 miles from home and the engine started to cut out on some steep hills, around 4 miles later it completely cut out.
  • Ford Mondeo - Flickering Sony lights 30 Mar 2012 (Forum)
I have an unresolved electrical problem with my '53 Mondeo TDCi 130 Estate 120k miles. After about 1 hrs night driving the Sony CD panel starts to flickering slightly. With time this increases in intensity over the next 20mins or so until they are almost flashing on-off. (very distracting when night driving) I have done some investigating (fiddling!)
  • Diesel or petrol... can't seem to decide 26 Jan 2012 (Forum)
I've been here a few days and everyone I converse with is steering me towards petrol cars. I do a fair bit of mixed driving right now but in a few months I'll be making longer trips (60+ miles to 120miles+ return trips). My thinking was that a diesel would be the answer to my prayers (fuel cost wise) but I'm being scared off Mondeo diesels with stories about the DMF and turbo problems.
  • Chrysler PTCruiser 2003. 2.2CRD - Engine wont start 30 Oct 2011 (Forum)
Has anyone else had this problem and do you know what causes it. It really is making me fear driving the car anywhere, knowing I could be stranded.
  • Car recommendation 10 Oct 2011 (Forum)
In fact I see them getting a lot worse. And so driving the Civic is becoming somewhat of a chore, it's extremely firm ride is currently doing my head (and back) in. It's a brilliant car, loads of room, great mpg, looks great etc. But we need something bigger and with a smoother ride.
  • Revoked license - fixed penalty notice 1 Sep 2011 (Forum)
Now, I phoned DVLA today who  have  confirmed that my license has been revoked. I'm obviously going to stop driving now (should have done this before!). My question is this though: - Since I have accepted the fixed penalty notice, am I right in saying the maximum I will get is 3 points and 60 pounds when I go to pay the fine and take my license?
  • Skoda Octavia - Young driver insurance:car choice:classic car? 18 Jun 2011 (Forum)

  • Vauxhall Zafira A (1999 - 2005) - 99 1.6 Fuel starvation? 11 Jun 2011 (Forum)
Although this is an annoying fault, I am concerned that it could happen whilst overtaking or in the outside lane of a busy motorway as the loss of power comes without warning; the only way to prevent this is to drive with the filler cap slightly loose!
  • iveco daily - van insurance 6 Jun 2011 (Forum)
I've always contacted the vehicle owner right away, looking back I wished I just paid for repairs out of my own pocket, what is the point of insurance if you can't claim on it? b***** leeches. my first year of van driving - no rear view mirror! sorry if I sound irresponsible,I'm almost used to driving a van now. Obviously time has come to renew my insurance, but I don't want it to put me out of business! currently paying a reasonable £1,200,but the only quote I've got so far has been £10,000!
  • Ford Fiesta 1.25 - 2004 Fiesta Revving issue 2 Jun 2011 (Forum)
Hi, I have a 2004 (54) Ford Fiesta and the other day the battery gave out.  I was driving home and the battery light popped on and then all the dials and internal electrics failed.  Managed to limp to a well known chain who promise to fit things quickly and they replaced the battery (it was only giving out 8V).
  • Fiat Panda Climbing 4 x 4 - Exhaust cost 4 May 2011 (Forum)
I live in the Alps and drive over very rough, unmade mountain roads.  I  hit a large stone (I was looking at the spectacular view)  and head that horrible grating sound. The exhaust started to make a loud burbling sound  at low speed.
