VW 1.9 TDi - EGR Valve and turbo cleaning 16 Apr 2012 (Forum)
Hi If some reports are to be believed an EGR valve is the worse thing ever designed from an engine health point of view. I have a Seat Altea 19TDi with 100k on the clock still running very smoothly. Is it worth cleaning the EGR and all the related plumbing, what will it roughly cost and do or can dealers do it? Is it easy to do yourself? -
Citroen xsara 1.8 auto estate - Water coming out near the bottom of the radiator? 9 Apr 2012 (Forum)
My mechanic put some radweld in the rad a few months ago because of a small hole. I have noticed that if the car is running but stationary, water pumps out of the bottom, but does not do this when driving. Has the radiator gone, or could it be the radiator fan is sticking or something else. I don't understand why it doesn't leak when i'm driving the car? -
KIA Rio - 2012 Kia Rio Ecodynamics anyone? 31 Mar 2012 (Forum)
Well I've been mooting the idea of getting a new car, probably looking to replace by September/October time or so (like to plan in advance) although I'm not quite sure yet, as it is not neccessary but would be more convenient I would say in terms of car sharing/deadlines etc. I have shortlisted the Kia Rio mostly because of the low running costs in terms of initial expense and high mpg for the 1.1 diesel ecodynamics. I wanted to know if any one had any experience with these cars and what the real life mpg would be and what your thoughts are on this car? -
Mondeo Mk3 V6 - Battery charging problem - alternator fault? 26 Mar 2012 (Forum)
Once the car is started it takes about 13 seconds for the terminal voltage to rise to 14V. Is this normal? I would expect the alternator to put out 14V immediately the engine is running. Is this a symptom of a faulty alternator? -
Ford Galaxy - Engine bay noise 14 Mar 2012 (Forum)
Hi all, just taken delivery of a brand new galaxy, TD, been checking things over, but have found a high pitched noise from left of engine bay, which lasts for about 15-20 seconds, then a clunk from right side of bay which switches noise off, then the same process happens again, this is when engine is off, whether it happens while running I wouldn't know, as you wouldn't hear it then, nothing in the manual about it, before I contact my dealer to be told its some computer thingy checking on the fllange thingy which lubricates the waffle button, and which is normal (and feel an idiot) is there anyone out there with an answer. -
2011 VW Polo 1.4 - Starting Fault 13 Mar 2012 (Forum)
Keeping the key turned and depressing the accelerator fully eventually starts the engine. It then runs and starts normally. On other occasions it behaves as if a choke cable was sticking. It starts from cold, but when moving off releasing the accelerator results in the engine speed increasing. -
Toyota Avensis Verso T-Spirt turbo diesel - Engine limp home mode 12 Mar 2012 (Forum)
The engine cuts to limp home mode and the orange engine warning light comes on for no apparent reason - very unwelcome on a motorway. If I turn the engine off and restart, it fires and runs as normal again, but the orange light stays on for a day or two, and then goes off. My local mechanic recently changed the injection pump flow control valves, as suggested by Toyota - £185 to them! -
Vauxhall Astra 1.6 8 valve - 2002 - Astra Smokey On Idle 7 Mar 2012 (Forum)
Hi, I have a Vauxhall Astra 1.6 8 valve which has recently stated to get very smokey on start up and now when idling or sat in traffic, when at speed it runs fine and there does not seem to be any smoke. It does use a fair bit of oil, but that seems to be a known thing with these cars, I have been reading through other forums and there seems to be conflicting problems mentioned by different people. -
Which of the three would you buy? 26 Feb 2012 (Forum)

Toyota Corolla - Low Idle Speed 4 Feb 2012 (Forum)
I took it back to the dealership and they plugged it into the diagnostics computer and they said everything is O.K. and that Corollas tend to run with a low idle. Seemed strange to mention this afterwards or is that me being cynical. I'm very happy with the Corolla, but just has the above minor irritation. Is this anything to be concerned about and do any other Corolla owners have the same experience? -
Vauxhall Vectra B 2002 Z18XE - Loss of power 3 Feb 2012 (Forum)
Hi The EML came on in my car making it run lumpy hesitant and misfiring, after checking it read faults code for the MAF Sensor. After talking to my local garage I replaced the ECU, Coil Pack and MAF, The car ran fine for about two days, then it started to cough, misfire and lose power, flat as a pancake. -
Vauxhall Astra - Astra 1.4 or 1.6? 23 Jan 2012 (Forum)
Hi Guys Im currently driving a 53 Hyundai Coupe 2.0. It's a great car and really reliable but running costs (petrol and tax mainly) are becoming a bit daft now. I'm looking at a '56'-'57' plate astra but unsure which engine to go for. The 1.4 offers better reliability and slightly cheaper insurance but I'm worried it's going to be far too underpowered. -
Disconnect battery to trickle charge? 20 Jan 2012 (Forum)
Is it vital to disconnect the battery during charging or will the vehicle cope OK, i'm fairly sure the engine management ECU has to 'relearn' following reconnection but i may well be totally wrong. The car is running so perfectly i'd rather not disconnect if possible. Whats the proper procedure? -
2000 vauxhall vectra 2.0 cdx - vauxhall vectra mass air flow meter problem 4 Jan 2012 (Forum)
hi just a quick question my vectra is running very rough and i suspected a problem with the mass air flow meter so i removed the electrical connector turned on the ignition and put a volt meter between the live and earth on the connector to see if power was being supplied to the maf and to my suprise it only returned a reading of 7.38 volts, if i put one end of the volt meter to live on the maf connector and the other to earth on the battery i get a full 12 volt reading is 7.38 volts using the live and earth on the connector normal regards melvyn -

The car runs fine ,sounds reasonably quite etc. From reading the posts , it seems that most of the camshaft problem cars are 1.0 or 1.2 .not the 1.4 .is this correct? Does anybody know if vauxhall have released the engine numbers for the apparently faulty batch that's has camshaft / torque setting problems .volvo v40 1.8i - air con - engine damage 3 Nov 2011 (Forum)
I was unfortunate on the w/e to be driving on the motorway and the waterhose came off and the engine was damaged beyond repair. I have only had the car for 4 months and it was running perfectly, no waring beforehand and it was all over within minutes. I am in the process of having another engine put in but I have been reading about air-con noises and consequential engine problems.Chrysler Grand Voyager LE 1998 - grand voyager auto gearbox 2 Nov 2011 (Forum)
Then it will jump out of gear when standing still and jump into gear when reved. Only when this noise appears does it have this problem. Fluid has been checked whilst running and is topped up. I have been told by an auto gearbox garage that it could cost up to £1400. This noise and problem has only started since a garage put a new belt on. Could the tension be causing the problem.
