W Fiesta Finesse 5dr coolant leak 13 Apr 2007 (Forum)
No luck - and I'd been noticing a clonking noise coming out of the dash. Next day I checked the coolant level and noticed the tank totally empty - nothing in the pipes at all. So I filled up (overfilled in fact) and noticed that two days later the level has dropped below the min level. I've checked below the car this morning and I've got a few drops of oil and a bit of water underneath - not puddles but just general dampness. -

Ok here goes the tale. I recently noticed that my 1996 Audi A4 110bhp TDI was loosing coolant fluid. On inspeciton I foudn that it seemed to be boiling off at the top hose to the radiator was too hot to touch, but the radiator was cold. Having searched the net I replaced the expansion cap as a starting point but no change. -

The first time this happened, I nearly had a heart attack and assumed that I had a serious overheating problem. I then did a lot of investigating in an attempt to fix the "overheating". Coolant flush, precautionary replacement of thermostat etc. Made no difference. Also, no signs of coolant leaks, airlocks, blown HG, blocked rad etc. I concluded that the car was not overheating and that there was a fault with the gauge. -

There was fine rusty sludge in the coolant, and a few scale flakes flushed out of the bottom of the radiator. -

Someone else has told me it makes no sense being in the top hose as it would create a back pressure to the thermo hoousing and effectiveley stop the water flowing out of the cylinder head, but I cant see it as the pump is still drawing coolant from the rad therefore creating a vacuum effect that will pull the coolant the right way?? Sorry if I went on one there but trying to give as much detail as possible to get a good accurate response. -

Antifreeze for Polo AEF Diesel Engine 19 Dec 2004 (Forum)
According to Haynes, only Volkswagon G11 Blue coolant should be used on these engines. Is this still necessary or can any proporietry antifreeze be used? -
Vauxhall Astra - Is it a ruined head gasket..? If so, advice please 2 Dec 2015 (Forum)
Bought a vauxhall astra 05 plate from a local dealer on Friday. Drove it home and realised the heating wasn't working on the car. Checked the coolant levels and it was completely empty. Topped it up with anti-freeze and thought nothing more of it. The next day set off in the car and realised that the coolant had gone, again! -

Problem: Temperature rises gradually if I drive more than 50 KM distance continuously. Action Taken So far: 1. Change the coolant expansion tank cap to avoid any coolant leak while coolant very hot with great pressure. Still the same problem Exists. 2. Flush radiator and change the coolant. Ford Fiesta - 2005 fiesta overheating - temp gauge normal 26 Oct 2024 (Forum)
The thing is the tempature gauge shows normal when the coolant tank is bubbling up and steam coming from it. Shouldn't the tempature gauge show that the engine is overheating if it was this fuse? So I'm wondering if I'm going down the right lines with looking at the fuses? -

It appears it does it at will as there's no pattern to it. A side that is yet to be resolved is a coolant leak (been on a pressure test for 2 hours without finding a leak) which needs topped up as only half full and I think (will double-check later tonight) the engine oil needs topped up. Could the coolant and/or the possible requirement of engine oil cause the stuttering? -

Egr works fine, the signal is ok and as a last solution before taking the cable step by step to check if the wiring is at fault, I've taken the EGR piping and radiator down and gave it a good cleaning. EGR gases on this model are liquid cooled using the engine coolant and by removing the egr radiator I've lost some coolant. Now that I have toped it off to the max level some air came out but in order to "corectly"bleed the sistem most cars have a bleeder valve wich I have not managed to locate on my car. -

Since I bought it a month ago, it had Engine cooling light ON, the Yellow light with a fan over a Radiator. I thought it would be a matter of just topping up the coolant but it was something more than that. Neither the Radiator fan nor the Aircon fan kicks in no matter what you do. Luckily the car does not heat up during normal driving; it’s only at idle that the car heats up till the coolant is sprayed all over, suppose the air striking the radiator while driving cools it down. -
Hyundai Terracan - Hyundai Terracan Overheating 5 Mar 2012 (Forum)
It has been suggested that it might be a blown head gasket or cracked engine block - but will be a very expensive job to check/repair. (There is no emulsion in the coolant). Any other ideas or thoughts on what this might be? -
Ford KA, KA2, KA3 (1996 - 2008) - 99 1.3 Overheating, think its the water pump 28 Feb 2011 (Forum)
The light works ok as it tests at start up. The radiator fan does not come on either but does when I unplug the wiring on the coolant temp sensor. I have bled system, checked thermostat and checked for any blockages and fitted new temp sensor and no change. I am now thinking maybe the water isn't passing the coolant temp sensor and the problem is the water pump. -
BMW 325 ci (2002) - overheating woes 23 Mar 2010 (Forum)
i am thinking along the lines of relay, wiring or thermoswitch causing this fault. what would be the most likely reason why the fan keeps failing and how can it be tested? it should be noted that the expansion tank has split letting the coolant out. i am not sure if this related, but the overheating probably caused the expansion tank to split with the over-hot coolant. thanks for any thoughts -
Peugeot 407 SW (2004 - ) - 04 2.0 HDi Overheated 28 Oct 2009 (Forum)
Hi The coolant bypass hose on my 54 reg 2.0 HDI burst and caused the engine to overheat and go into limp mode. I managed to replace the hose but when i have refilled the coolant and run the engine I cant get rid of the air bubbles, plus if i top up when cold it justs blows out the expansion bottle as soon as I start the engine.
