  • Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 99 1.8 Alternator only lasting 3 months! 18 Jan 2010 (Forum)
The things die in the same way, battery light comes on, battery puts out 12ish vaults under load and refuses to increase to any more than 12.4 vaults. Once my mechanic said it looked like there was fuel in the alternator but this was a one off (possible fuel leak from pump?) Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance, Dave.
  • Vauxhall Zafira A (1999 - 2005) - 04 2.2 Water running temperature when fully warmed 6 Dec 2009 (Forum)
For example I drove 90 miles yesterday on a mix of country, town and motorway roads, the outside temperature was about 10 degrees and it never went above about 83 degrees which seems to me too cool Every car I have owned; once warmed up runns at 90 degrees and I am concirned that this will increase my fuel consumption. My questions are: What is the correct running temperature of the water in a Zafira 2.2 SRi once warmed up. What effect will this have on the fuel consumption I'm guessing that the guage or thermometer may be at fault or the garage did not do the repair.
  • Chrysler Voyager (1997 - 2001) - 97 3.3 Laid up for several months, now won't start 28 Aug 2009 (Forum)
All lights are on, immobiliser goes off but the engine doesn't even crank. Strangely, when checking the usual fuses, the Fuel pump fuse blew when replacing it although the ignition was off and key removed. I am worried that this may be a fuel pump problem (Ugh at least £350 plus labour)...so was hoping to cover off all bases before spending unecessary ££.
  • Suzuki Swift (2005 - ) - 06 1.5 Petrol leaking out of the filler cap 14 Jul 2009 (Forum)
Hi guys, I've found that when I have around three quarters of a tank of fuel in my car, there is petrol leaking out of the filler cap and spraying over the rear panel and bumper. As the fuel level goes down, the leakage stops. A Suzuki garage have looked at it briefly and noted that there seems to be too much pressure when taking the cap off, but the cap itself isn't damaged.
  • BMW 5-Series E39 (1996 - 2003) - 5 Series - Which engine and spec 1 Mar 2009 (Forum)
Will be looking at paying ~£3-4k, so would be looking at something like a 00/01 reg. I do around 12k miles/year, so excellent fuel efficiency isn't a major issue, nor is blistering performance. I currently get around 34mpg from my current car. I am tending towards the petrol models, but is there any overriding reason why I should get a diesel, or are petrol models more reliable/cheaper to run (fuel apart)?
  • Ford Fiesta (2002 - 2008) - 2003 1.4TDCI Whistling at 2800-3000RPM 6 Aug 2008 (Forum)
Hi, I recently had a ticking noise from the engine which on further inspection was shown to be the fuel injector seals. I had 2 of the 4 replaced (the other 2 were apparently ok and tightened down to save me money). This cost me £122 which I thought was quite reasonable due to the time it took to remove the old seals.
  • Premium Derv - `twenty fairies dance in HP-Pump` 4 Aug 2008 (Forum)
Objectively though, its the £2.50 extra paid for a tank of the `best` and with my Eco-crate, that`s 30 or so, miles lost. All before the premium fuel additive fairies even get out of bed to try to magic it back..... It is quieter.. but so what?
  • Honda Accord UK (2003 - 2008) - High mileage honda accord 22 May 2008 (Forum)
More specifically , I have found one petrol engine one with 2 previous owner and 82,000 mileage for 5,300 pounds but with official combined fuel consumption of 35mpg while I found another accord diesel based with 52,000 mileage for 7,300pounds with combined fuel consumption of 54mpg. Which one should I choose?
  • Volkswagen Golf V (2004 - 2008) - Gazole - Yes or No? 17 May 2008 (Forum)
m about to go on holiday to France again and was going to fill up with Gazole while I was out there, BUT when I filled up at my local station yesterday I noticed (for the first time!) that on the fuel filler-flap it states that I should NOT use Bio-diesel or Gazole. I?m now confused as to whether I can or can?t use it, I have a VW Golf 2.0 TDI (2006) which I thought would have been setup to accept this kind of fuel.
  • SAAB 900 (1993 - 1998) - 1995 2.3 Enigne Fault Light 15 May 2008 (Forum)
Can anyone HELP me, I have just bought a Saab Convertible 900SE 2.3 and it drives a dream, on the way home the petrol light came on showing I was low on fuel, as I only had about 4-5 miles to go before I was home that is what I did and was going to fill up the next day, in the meantime before stopping the car it started missing very slightly, I was home so I stopped the car, later went out to move it and it would not start giving the impression that it was out of fuel, when it did start I parked it up and saw that the ENGINE FAULT LIGHT was on, now I am thinking could I have brought up some muck and therefore the sensor is showing a fault as it is to much of a coincedence as what happened above.
  • Citroen C5 (2001 - 2008) - 2004 2.0 Petrol Review 15 Apr 2008 (Forum)
Having purchased a 2004 2.0 Petrol C5 VTR 2 months here are my comments. Fuel economy commute now around 31/32 Fuel economy long journeys 35-36 Even hit 36.5 on long journey to Wales this weekend and this was with some mixed driving too. 2000 Miles of motorring so far has been faultless.
  • Vauxhall Signum (2003 - ) - 2004 v6 3.0CDTi loss of power and smoking 23 Feb 2008 (Forum)
i have a 54 signum v6 3.0cdti and since september last year the car loses power and smokes terribly, it has been back to vauxhall 4 times and they do not know what is wrong with it (there is no warning lights ) at first it went back under warranty after i had to remove the wrong fuel filter (purflux filter) and fit a genuine vauxhall filter, then they tried to repair it no good ..... went back in and they fit a new fuel filter housing unit under warranty ..... no good same problem ... then they said the original filter could have caused some damage and vauxhall will now not support any future work, the car is now out of warranty, i have took the car to several garages and no one knows what the problem is .... any body suffered the same problem and cured it ??????
  • Ford Fiesta (1995 - 1999) - 98 1800 Endura Failure to start 3 Dec 2007 (Forum)
After investigation I discovered that nothing is coming out of the injection pump. I suspect the fuel cut-off solenoid is at fault, but there are three electrical devices on this pump - one on top, one (almost impossible to get at) at the back, and one which clicks when ignition is energised, on the side of the pump, i.e. towards front of vehicle.
  • Volvo 940 (1992 - 1997) - To buy? 28 Nov 2007 (Forum)

  • C3 HDi cutting out 20 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Serviced regularly - I changed the fuel filter too just in case...
  • Warm start problem - Renault Megane 1.6e 14 Jan 2007 (Forum)
They claim that unlike during the first visit the diagnostic tool did not show any error codes. They also tried to run it with fuel relay bypassed but it did not make any difference. Suggested to go to a Renault garage but the nearest is 15 miles away and my experience with them is that they are expensive and not very reliable.
  • Clever Honda Engines 26 Sep 2006 (Forum)
They have also developed the next stage of i-VTEC technology with the development of the Advanced VTEC engine, which provides high performance along with outstanding fuel economy and lower emissions. The new engine combines continuously variable valve lift and timing control with the continuously variable phase control of VTC (Variable Timing Control) to achieve a world-leading level of performance and a 13% improvement in fuel efficiency (in comparison to their 2.4 i-VTEC).
  • VW Polo alarming diesel knock 10 Jul 2006 (Forum)
It used to start after 1 or 2 seconds but now takes a couple of 5-6 secs + fully depressed accelerator, I've put new heater coils in, new timing belt and tensioner, checked the timing multiple times also tried with advanced and retarded levels, checked fuel supply to injectors, tested cylinder compression which are Nos1 - 20bar nos2 - 23bar nos3 - 21bar nos4 - 17bar. Thing is when it does go it sounds fine, pulls well and there is neither strange noises nor smoke (black, white or blue). + if on starting the stop lever, found on the top of the pump, is activated then without fuel supply the engine turns as it should without the alarming knocking sounds.
  • Lease options 1 Dec 2005 (Forum)
I currently claim mileage at 40p/mile and can do so for up to 10000 mile p/a I understand. My car costs me under 10p/mile even at today's fuel costs so the additional 30p means I am in profit even allowing for wear and tear, servicing and depreciation. However perhaps there is another way, lets say that whatever car I drive it would cost 10p/mile in fuel therefore the 30p mile over 10k p/a will cost the company £3000 which is £250/month with which we could perhaps take out a 3 year 20k/year fully maintained lease or contract hire plan.
