Review Fiat Doblo 2002 JTD "the Fault-Master" 13 Apr 2010 (Forum)
Mrs O called it many things "old skinny tyres" - The Fault-Master" and so on. The main thing is that it`s a fading memory and no longer on our drive. oilrag -
Driving USA 26 Aug 2007 (Forum)
Just back from the family holidays in Florida. I was dreading driving on the other side of the road. Hired a cavernous 3.7l Durango, which costs about US$ 27k new, an astonishing equivalent of £13.5k. But in my opinion, it was not as sophisticated a drive as Japaneese or European cars. -
Jensen Interceptor - A day with an Interceptor 23 Aug 2014 (Forum)
So what’s an Interceptor like to drive today? When I first saw the car I was going to drive, my heart leapt: it’s still a stunnig shape. The interior is just as impressive with its dash full of dials and gauges, and acres of leather with a lovely patina of age. -
My Toyota Prius Review 7 Sep 2011 (Forum)
Ive never driven anything electric or hybrid before so i was taken aback when i started it and was silent, i thought i'd broken it. But panic over we began to move. The drive The drive was to be a 140 mile round trip taking in dual carraigeway and mixed outskirts and town driving, an ideal test then for the real world fuel economy of the Prius, supposedly its big selling point. -
BMW 1 Series - vibration suspension tired 30 Oct 2019 (Forum)
On holiday, I have rented small VW Golf, Micra, Skoda, Corsa etc.... all were reasonable, but none I wanted to own. Getting a test drive, can be a pain, as they think you are a time waster, but I want the right car. I don't want to buy something which I will regret or have remorse. I tend to keep cars for a long time.... and do low-mileage, but I want a car for city driving, but I also want a grand tour of the UK (my wish list!). -
Peugeot 206 - Loss of power and EML with new air filter 9 Jul 2018 (Forum)
I've got a weird problem with my car, its a 1.4 HDi, same engine as the Ford 1.4 TDCi. I changed the air filter on it and upon driving it the EML came on and the further you push the pedal down the more the engine keeps refusing to rev whilst driving. It acts like it's either in limp mode or it's not getting any fuel if you try and accelerate quickly. -
Vauxhall Zafira A - Loss of instruments, charging suspect 1 Jun 2018 (Forum)
2004 Petrol 2.2l Design 16valve 1. Flat battery after driving couple of weeks back.Later when testing: Suspect alternator as with all lights, aircon, radio, fan, voltage at battery reduced to about 12.7V on 2000 revs. Didn't try driving, but then dove to work etc 14miles (spare battery in car in case) and everthing fine, charging 13.5 volts with everthing on. -
How much difference does a roof rack make to MPG? 20 Feb 2018 (Forum)
I realise, given my usage, this is probably not too bad, but given my connect (known as being less efficient than most small vans) averaged 39-40MPG , i was a little dissapointed not to be getting more and wondered just how much difference a roof rack might make?. By far the biggest majority of my main road driving is on single carriageway A and B roads, where i tend to drive between 50MPH (which is what i am legally supposed to be doing) and 60MPH, but usually closer to 50 these days as the caddy seems happier there (it is a 2.0 sdi, so 70BHP and fairly low gearing). -
Accident - Dilemma? 18 Dec 2017 (Forum)
Both our cars are over 13 years, so I doubt worth repairing his or claiming on insurance, but I don't know if I should just offer some cash as compensation (but he was parked in th wrong place.... so not entirely my fault!). The dent was about 2" in, but I was driving slowly, could this happen when driving slow parking speed in reverse gear? Should I knock on the door of my neighbhoor? (I am an honest person). -
Honest John’s Motoring Agony Column 09-09-2017 Part II 15 Sep 2017 (Forum)
Landcruiser with 3 litre is same engine, I changed my own with a Gates full kit including new tensioner @ around £80, takes the aforesaid 1 hour first time, next time i reckon 40 minutes tops. All cambelt drives should be designed like this. I'd also dispute the auto box not being good, please try one for yourself, preferably in a 3 litre Hilux HL3 or Invincible spec. -
Help choosing the right car please 27 Feb 2017 (Forum)
Hi, Im looking for some help choosing a new car. I currently drive 61 plate Honda Civic 1.4 Type S. I actually really like my car. It feels good to drive, looks sporty without verging on being a boy racer type and I love the modern style dashboard and interior. -
Golf GTD/GTI - Golf GTD/GTI MK6 indecision 9 Feb 2017 (Forum)
So to explain my driving situation, I will be joining the military this year (April time) and i'll be ranging from 100 to 200 miles from home and be making regular trips back, I reckon between 1-2 a week (but the car may not get used a lot in the time between). -
Automatics - Elderly drivers + automatic = crash? 26 Feb 2016 (Forum)
Driver 83 year old man So pedal confusion panic could be a factor in all these cases (as could several other factors I admit) but instead of banning 80+ year olds from driving should we stop them driving autos or make left foot braking training compulsory (if that is even possible?) -
Citroen Xsara Picasso, 1.6 TDi, 2004, 75k miles - Sudden total clutch slip(?) - no previous symptoms 18 Sep 2015 (Forum)
- Am in France and need knowledge/info before a garage 'has me by the curlies...' and takes me to the cleaners! Does anyone have any experience of this? Driving normally, slowing and got a judder (I thought I was too slow for still being in 5th gear), immediately depressed clutch (and engine stalled), changed gear and expected to 'bump re-start' car while still driving - but I had no clutch engagement. -
Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe CDI250 62Reg - Pulling Left 19 Aug 2014 (Forum)
I've been on a road test with a service engineer driving, he also said it is normal for Mercedes in the UK to pull in this fashion due to the road camber, but I can replicate the result in a flat car park. I have checked all tyre pressures. -
Ford Focus Diesel - Problem with Engine Management System 30 May 2013 (Forum)
I then drove a further 450 miles including motorway driving hassle free. On a later journey at high speed, the car gave a large stutter and the EMS light came on again although the engine did not cut out this time. I took the car to another dealership and they checked the filter but found no problems with it but replaced it anyway. -
Peugeot 306 Meridian 1998 reg - Has the garage caused these issues? 28 May 2013 (Forum)
I kind of noticed the dashboard wasn't illuminated but didn't think too much of it as it was only just getting slightly dark. I didn't think much about it until I had to drive back home. I turned on the headlights and there wasn't a single light on the dashboard. Not even the hazard switch was lit as it normally is. Luckily I wasn't far from home but I had to drive back with absolutely no way of seeing anything on the dash - or knowing what my speed was. -
Requesting some recommendations 8 Oct 2012 (Forum)
I also like the SEAT Ibiza, which seems to strike a good balance between sensible and fun, particularly the 3 cylinder 1.2 which will save me a relative fortune in insurance compared to cars with larger engines. To give you a further idea of what I would like to drive, I would rather get the bus than get a Ford KA; I'm not looking for a cheap, utterly practical and reliable tool, I want to thoroughly enjoy owning and, more importantly, driving my car. -
Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 00 1.6 Overheat Problem 19 Jul 2012 (Forum)
If it is coolant blockage or thermostat could this cause the engine to blow again if not rectified straight away, wondering why the mechanic would not have checked it as I told him the symptoms right before it blew last time ? Not sure if this matters but just let it get up to running temp on the drive then subjected it to sustained revs of 4-5K and the temp guage didn't budge off normal so assume this only occurs when actually driving. Sent a text to the mechanic today saying I wanted a replacement engine or refund but not sure if this is the route to take if it is only likely to be a minor issue. -
Jaguar XJ8 and XJR8 (1997 - 2003) - 01 3.2 Very Rough on Idling 3 Mar 2011 (Forum)
Car runs perfect and has bags of power and sounds sweet in every way until ?.. The Problem. Car left on drive in rain for maybe 4 days. Started up perfectly on first turn and I drove off. About 60 yds along road engine warning light began to flash and then ?Reduced Power ? warning appeared. I turned around and got onto drive .
