1999 Ford Focus TDDi estate - Engine cut out on motorway. Will not restart. 29 May 2012 (Forum)
I had low fuel level (just under quarter full) but the gauge has always been very reliable and no warning light came on. I suspected I'd run out of fuel because of the hill - and that's what it felt like when the engine cut out, but much morre sudden. On the hard shoulder the mechanic put a large can of diesel in my tank (expensive too) but engine still would not start. -
Renault Megane 1.5dci 2002 - Idle issues - Intermittant fault 19 Feb 2012 (Forum)
I'm guessing that the ECU is not letting the car rev due to the low idle speed. This fault never happens when the engine is started from cold, once running, the engine runs fine with no problems. It seems it’s linked to a hot engine as I can drive the car with no problems, stop the engine to say fill up with petrol or post a letter and when I go to restart I get the fault. -
Ford Focus 51 plate 1600 auto 130,000 miles - Focus electrical problems is it terminal ? 22 Jan 2012 (Forum)
The car was parked on the street so I jumped the car and it started OK with jump leads and I got parked on the drive turned if off and tried to start it , back to the clicking central locking. So I jumped it again and left it running a while. Any ideas from anybody ? Otherwise the car is very clean, no rust and no other problems, it has been wellserviced and has had the cam belt work done. -
Ford Fiesta 2002 - 1.4tdci zetec (non-aircon) - Strange Rattle Noise, Fuel, Water Pump Bearings? 31 Dec 2011 (Forum)
Hi All, The wifes 52 reg 1.4TDCI (87,000 miles) i making a strange noise. It is coming from the aux belt area, am i right in saying this runs the power steeering, fuel and water pump and the Peugeot 406 HDi - Peugeot 406 2.0 HDI anti polution fault 5 Dec 2011 (Forum)
(see similar threads from Whatdowepayourroadtaxfor 8 Dec 2008) EVERY time any service garage changes the oil filter, the message " anti polution fault" appears when I drive away, the engine management light stays on, the car goes into "slow" mode (max 3000rpm, then later it's allowed full revs but still with fault on), the engine 'runs on' after switch off, and the garage guy says "..just give it a long hard run and it'll be OK..."! It often is, but not this time. The "fault" Is on and off like Jordan's relationships. At the same time, there's diesel dripping out of a fuel ine feeding into / out of, what I assume is (a 70mm x 40mmx 40mm oblong plastic case with a 2 pin connector) the pressure regulator solonoid, above the pressure rail (Bosch system), although no 'diesel experts' seem to recognise this discription, but one is going to look at it the leak problem in the next few days. -
Insurers -spivs or charlatans? 18 Nov 2011 (Forum)
My car was written off by a hit and run lorry as you will read on recent posts. This is a related but seperate issue. As lorry was driving off I tried to get registration, make, colour. Police have been great, ran a search and informed all details tallied, lorry was insured and notice of prosecution has been served. -
Vx Omega Rocker Cover 3 Feb 2011 (Forum)
I took off the rocker cover (because it had a leak into the spark plug wells.) I have cleaned the shiny area where the gasket will run. I cleaned the plug wells 1,2,& 3 were filthy and No. 1 was especially full of old sludgy oil ( as were 2 & 3 but not so much oil), thrown out the plugs. So my questions are now: 1. What sort of silicone do I use to help seal the RC gasket? -

Ford focus 02 1.6 Zetec - Loosing power steering fluid after MOT 10 Jul 2010 (Forum)
Having paid the MOT garage for some ford P/S fluid, (MC2 195-A, £20 a bottle, if you're wondering) I've filled it up and run it for a few minutes and the poorly sounding pump sounds a lot happier. However, when the engine is running, the fluid leaks with 1 drip every second or so from underneath the engine on the drivers side somewhere. -
02 Daewoo Nubira 1.6 Estate - Too much oil - Can I save my engine?! 7 Apr 2010 (Forum)
I have been using it for the school run twice a day and not much more than that although for the past 3 weeks I have been driving it once a week on National roads - I get up to 50 max as it has other problems (wheel bearing and tracking I think) which affect the steering and control of the car and problems with the new brakes giving kickback and not always stopping the car. -
£4500 for a diesel estate 21 Jan 2010 (Forum)
ll be a older model and although I?d quite like a premium badge, the desire to have reliable cheap to run car out-ways this. Old shape 3/5 series BMW?. Not sure might be paying for the badge and an outdated design. Honda accord ? don?t know much about them other then they are reliable Toyota Avensis ? don? -
Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 02 1.6 High idle and creeping revs 19 Jan 2010 (Forum)
I have taken it off and given it a clean, to no affect. The other problem I have is that if I am driving with the engine running below 2000 revs per minute, and I take my foot off of the throttle and press down on the clutch, the revs go up to 2000 rpm and stay there until the car is at walking pace. Then the revs will drop down to idle of 1200rpm. -
Volkswagen Golf VI (2009 - ) - Company Car Vc Cash - again... 5 Jan 2010 (Forum)
We absolutely dont want to run a car outside manufacturer warranty. We are looking at a new VW Golf 1.4 GT TSI (5 dr, DSG). On our scheme I would have to trade up by £100 p.m., and the tax at 40% is about £80 p.m. For the purposes of this, please can we assume: 1. -
Peugeot 309 (1986 - 1993) - 90 1.9 gti turns over but will not fire 7 Dec 2009 (Forum)
i have just purchased a 309 gti 1.9. the engine was running very nice, smooth and was firing up every time. the next day i was sorting out a few of the bits that needed doing and had the engine running for a while. while i was fixing the clip hoding the fuse board up the engine cut right out as if someone had turned the ignition off, was very strange. since then the car has not started, it will turn over but will refuse to fire. i looked to see if i had pulled anything out in the fuse board an noticed a tiny little switch up in there that had quite obviously been added to the car. -
MG MGF (1995 - 2002) - 97 1.8 VVC Can't Select Gears 31 May 2009 (Forum)
hi, my sisters rang last week to say she lost the ability to change gear on the motorway. the car has since been recovered i looked at it and found the clutch release arm to be seized i understand this is fairly common and this week have had the gearbox off and replaced it, i left the clutch as it appeared ok and has only covered 50k. now ive reassembled it all she still can't select gear with the engine running. the new release arm moves freely. ive had the slave cylinder apart and there are no signs of leaking there, although it only has 1 seal and the mg parts catalogue appears to show 2. i have bleed the clutch system using a pressurised easy bleed system i get a good flow of fluid from the top union on the master cylinder aswell as from the slave cylinder, the pedal feels good too but still i can't select any gear when the engine is running. there does seem to be alot of flex in the slave cylinder mounting bracket but im not sure if this would cause an issue. im at a bit of a loss as to where to go next? -
New car for SWMBO. Any thoughts 21 Mar 2009 (Forum)
I'd therefore like to buy her something moderately funky (for want of a better expression) for the 15 mile round trip to work and the odd school run. She might need to carry 2 kids from time to time so a 2 seater is out, but a stylish coupe maybe around the 6 or 7K mark sounds just the ticket. We had thought of: Hyundai Coupe: Plus points: looks/cost Negatives: cheapo interior Audi TT: Plus points it's an Audi TT Negatives: Space in the rear/have to buy an older one for the price/the thought of swmbo running about in a car with 180 or goodness help us 225 bhp scares me frankly..! -
Volkswagen Corrado (1989 - 1995) - 92 2.9 VR6 MoT CO emissions fail - any ideas? 22 Jan 2009 (Forum)
Bit of history: Standard VR6, runs well, no miss fires or other issues. No faults logged on VAG-COM. Last year the MOT tester said it only just got through the emissions test, he had to clean up the AFM connection and then he only just siad he got it through after lots of attempts (i'm not convinced the AFM connection was a problem). -
Volkswagen Polo III (2000 - 2002) - 01 1.4 Engine Warning Light (Engine emissions ligh 13 Dec 2008 (Forum)
or if it has been really cold it will take a long time to get started, up to 10mins sometimes, when it will run to a few hundred rpm, but never reach idling revs. This is particularly annoying when it occurs at a car park exit barrier!! In terms of once it's started it still drives fine though. I've had the ECU fault codes read, then reset, then the light comes on around 30miles later.
