? faulty air compressor 16 Jun 2003 (Forum)
Servicing my 1998 Mondeo 1.8LX today and noticed a clunk coming from the air compressor (according to my Haynes manual). Every 2 or 3 minutes the unit clunks and the drive wheel stops driving the unit. I'm not sure whether this is normal - it has probably been doing it for ages and I've only noticed today because I've been giving my car more attention than usual. All advice appreciated. -
Granada Loss of Power 14 Jun 2003 (Forum)
Recently when on a long run at motorway speeds, it starts out fine, but, after a while it looses its power. No one can find anything wrong at the time and after a while, it starts and then drives ok. It seems to drive around town with no probs. I`m wondering if part of the ignition circuit is breaking down under load. Hope someone can help. Thanks jms -
Suspension squeaking. 27 Mar 2003 (Forum)
Hi All I have a 1991 VW Golf (81,000 miles, 1300cc). I have noticed that my suspension is emitting squeaking noises during driving. The squeaking is more apparent driving along rougher roads. All suspension components are the original ones since 1991. The only replacements have been the rear bump stops 10,000 miles ago. The shock absorbers are functioning fine. -

Most economical small car 3 Feb 2003 (Forum)
My daughter is looking for a car for shopping/school runs, etc. She will probably be driving no more than 10 miles each way, twice a day, mainly through town and slow moving traffic. Mpg economy is paramount - she doesn't particularly want a diesel, but I suppose for this type of driving it would probably be better? -
Schizo Alternator? 1 Aug 2002 (Forum)
While idling, the battery voltage is 12V but drops to 10V after some time or right after stop and go driving. At 2500 RPM the terminals read about 13.5V The tachometer jumps around a lot while driving. Sometimes when I hit the brakes, the radio goes off, but not always. Anyone have a diagnosis? -

Citroen withdrawal symptoms 27 Nov 2001 (Forum)
Since I have been driving a turbo diesel again (Peugeot 406), my mind must have subconsciously defaulted to 1995-98 when I had a Citroen BX TZD. Several mornings I have found myself waiting on the drive with the engine idling for that sensation of the suspension rising up! -
rover brake light probs 9 Nov 2001 (Forum)
Alright all, I've actually got a car related problem for once... :-) My mate drives an M reg Rover 218sd turbo diesel. When he's driving along and accelerates hard (foot to the floor), the handbrake-on/discs worn dashboard light comes on, but works fine in all other respects. Any ideas why its doing this? -
Poor ride quality in Nissan Primera 10 Mar 2001 (Forum)
My L reg Primera 1800 makes me feel as if I am driving on solid tyres, and seems to have poor road holding qualities. The obvious answer would normally be connected with the tracking or suspension, but no fault has been found with either of these. The suspension is unusually hard though, and gives the impression of driving over cobbles, even when on a smooth road surface. -
variable valve timing 18 Jan 2001 (Forum)
I drive a Honda civic 1.5ils 1998 mod .Does anyone else find the occasional power surges when driving at steady speeds annoying. I have to keep a carefull eye on my speed when approaching cameras. (speed can increase 5-7mph) I am told this is normal by Honda.Ps no i am not one of those drivers that try to squeeze as many mpg as possible out of this remarkably economical engine!. -
Ford Kuga - Towing question - petrol vs diesel 10 Apr 2025 (Forum)
My last few cars have been diseal but after a discussion with a salesman at Ford he suggested a petrol car as diseal is being phased out and in 10 years time when I come to change cars this could have a effect on part exchanging or getting any value. I don't drive many miles, I work within 3 miles of home and family & friends live within 20 mins drive. Once a year we drive to Cornwall pulling a trailer with camping stuff approx 300 miles each way. My partner is admiant we need a diseal for this purpose as a petrol would not pull a trailer. -
High cars, not 4 wheel drive, preferably Japanese? 16 Sep 2024 (Forum)
I don't want an import because I am having to give up current imported Honda due to unavailability of spares. I don't want 4 wheel drive because then you lose luggage space. We do regular car boot sales and need space, but we want a car that is still easy to park and use daily. A bit larger than a Toyota Verso. Not much to ask, is it?? -

VW T-Roc - VAG 7 speed dry clutch DSG box....we have one! 30 Dec 2022 (Forum)
My question is simply, is there any particular way to drive the car with mechanical sympathy to minimise the risk of putting undue strain on the box? Or to put it another way is there any particular driving style which is more likely to lead to issues? Thanks in advance -
MG4 - Electric Car to Qatar 20 Nov 2022 (Forum)
Even if just passing through. I think this problem is insurmountable. They can't drive to Qatar without going through the KSA. Watching the site to see what's next... Maybe drive to a red sea port and get a ferry to Qatar if one exists..Qatar also appears not to allow RHD either. -

Honda CRV - Your thoughts on a test drive issue. 3 Mar 2020 (Forum)
At the weekend I test drove a honda CRV diesel on a 16 plate low mileage, it was low on fuel with the light on with 2 mile on the trip computer so we went to get diesel but before we could put fuel in the limp home mode symbol came on but I didn't know what it was so when I drive away I quickly found out and had no power so we went back the the carstore had a chat and walked away but I have now had a phone call saying on there diagnostic equipment it said low fuel pressure and that they have put a new battery on aswell ,when I asked why the new battery the sales guy wasn't to sure but he will see if he can get a report explaining things a little better.
