Volkswagen Beetle (1998 - ) - 1.9 tdI Legal advice re: buying used - timing belt 22 Apr 2008 (Forum)
I have told the dealer that the timing belt has not been done like it should have and he is prepared to still sell me this (yes I know I also am prepared to buy it). I believe there is legal rulings that if a car develops a fault within, is it 6 months, then it is perceived to have been there at time of sale and so onus on seller to fix? Car comes with a 3 month warranty which, I assume would have a caveat that car must have been seviced to manufacturer guidelines. -
Hyundai i10 2009 - Fitting a new car battery these days.... 12 Feb 2016 (Forum)
Mention is made of the Draper 'Memory Saver' that you plug in to the cig. lighter socket to keep the settings during the battery swap. At the time I hadn't heard of them but subsequently bought one and have never used it. My question is....on something like my Hyundai i10 how sensible is it to change your own battery. In the good old days we didn't give it a second thought (same as using jump leads) but nowadays I'm wary of doing anything to upset (a) the car's electronics....and (b) the people who maintain the warranty (Hyundai until September this year). -
Personal buying habits 22 Nov 2023 (Forum)
More than once I have saved money by deleting a trader's used-car warranty from his selling price. By the 1980s, BL cars had lost their appeal, kids had become teenagers, and I swapped our fifth Maxi for a Cavalier estate and later a Nissan Prairie, before the 205 got headlines and we switched to the Peugeot brand. -
Ford Focus III 2.0tdci ghia - intermittent loss of power 16 Nov 2013 (Forum)
My brother has exactly the same spec of car as me, same year, just a different colour, he uses the local supermarket fuel and has encountered no problems. they have suggested that the vehicle be recovered back to the dealership without starting it as fault codes are erased when the engine is re-started. i am more than convinced they will magically find the fault when my warranty expires. i have also been in touch with Ford customer services, they have logged a call and given me a refference number but are not really able to help other than this. -
Audi A5, 2.0 Tfsi - Audi dealer post warranty work issues - advice 18 Oct 2017 (Forum)
My 09 2.0 TFSI sport had oil consumption issues since I bough it earlier this year, using approx 1litre every 800 miles. I googled and found that watchdog did a thing on it and it was an inherent issue usually resolved by Audi UK FOC even if out of general warranty period. After a few visits to my local listers Audi, they had done a 2 stage test and ascertained that it was using too much oil and approached Audi uk. -
"Private" car dealers on Ebay 13 Jun 2005 (Forum)
Selelr gave reason for sale "wife found it too big" (no jokes, please), and so he is putting it straight back on the market. Said he's a private indiv., so no warranty. I spotted some trade plates in the pics - thought odd. Then looked through his history, turns out he's bought the car a few days back, and is using the same pics! He's also bought two other Avensis in the last month or so, suggesting he's trading. -
Suzuki Vitara - Replacement bulbs cost 12 Aug 2025 (Forum)
I need some help with my 3-year-old car, which is still under warranty. The daytime running light on the left side has packed in, and the LED headlight on the right side isn’t working either. I thought these were just easy bulbs to swap out like in my old cars, but I was told to ring the dealer. -
Ford C-MAX - Is there a cure for misting Ford headlights 28 Mar 2015 (Forum)
I recently bought a one year old Ford Cmax Titanium X from my local Ford dealership and have been unable to resolve a problem of misting headlights. They mist up after a run if the car is parked in rain or is washed, or it’s a cold day. It seems that moisture in the units evaporates when the car is in use and then condenses on the cold surface of the lens. The dealer was persuaded to change the units under warranty, I’m told they were swapped from another new car, but this has not resolved the problem. -
DIY servicing..Can you change your headlamp bulb? 3 Dec 2007 (Forum)
I am assuming that some models are designed for the third world market where back street servicing is the norm and a complicated car simply would have no secondhand value and it seems to me that these are the future for those of us who can't or won't buy new cars with warranties. I would guess there will be notable exceptions to this theory, the 2CV being an example, but would the bulb test, in general, be a good criteria for judging the DIY friendliness of a vehicle? -
Volvo XC90 - Volvo high pressure diesel pump failure 26 Sep 2023 (Forum)
Car repaired and I have a bill of 3500 (nearly bankrupted me). Pump/one injector/belt, all changed. Now I have dilemma: I have no extended warranty, however I know that in case of manufactory defect, warranty in England can be extended up to 6 years (google and gov.uk), but I have to prove that it was manufactory defect. -
Renault - Should I trust Renault? 21 Jul 2024 (Forum)
We have been very happy with our Kadjar which we bought new 3 years ago. So much so we were on the verge of considering a Clio as our second car But at just 3 years old the automatic gear box on the Kadjar has failed resulting in a lengthy visit to the garage (>10 days) as a part (something to do with the clutch??) has to be ordered Thankfully an extended warranty was purchased! -
Seat leon TDI 2013 - Turbo 10 Oct 2016 (Forum)
Hi, Just a quick bit of advice as I'm fairly ignorant about this kind of thing. I recently bought a used seat leon TDI (43k miles). Unfortunately the car lost power and engine light came on. I took it to my local seat garage. They said that the turbo needs replacing. Annoyingly it's literally just out of the warranty, but they've said they'll cover the cost of the parts (£2500 apparantly). -
03 Honda Accord Tourer Creaking Clutch 20 Mar 2007 (Forum)
The problem is intermittent but gets progressively worse on long journeys (no probs with gear selection however). I've 2 months left of my Honda Approved Used warranty and I'm taking it in next week, just like to be armed with the best info so if anyone's had this let me know. Would be keen to know whether there are any TSBs about this. Thanks in advance, all help appreciated. -
Diesel a bad buy 14 Jan 2002 (Forum)
Being a regular reader i have come to the conclusion that buying a diesel other than new is defiantly a bad buy compared to petrol.Once out of warranty. Consider the cost of glowplugs ,fuelpumps, any engine work due to the close engineering tolerances, air leaks into the fuel system , smell when refueling, the longer warm-up mileage's required before the car heater blows hot ,noise on idle, black clouds of exhaust fumes on full bore excellent, heavier engines, ect Advantages good torque , good fuel economy, good resale? -
Volkswagen Scirocco - 1.4 TSI engine 20 Feb 2019 (Forum)
I began researching, as it seems ridiculous that a car with so little mileage as such a major problem and I have found so many. There was even a piece in a car magazine in 2013 saying that it is a known problem. To add insult to injury, our son leases his car and he can return it in September. -
Mazda CX-30 - Battery problems 22 May 2023 (Forum)
Anyway, I contacted my dealer to ask if I they could do a battery check and they said they could but it would be £132! I asked if this would be covered under warranty as the car is only two and a half years old and they said they didn't know and it would have to be taken up with the warranty company. Ultimately I an not sure what to do. I could get a free battery check at a number of places but they would expect me to buy a new battery from them if it was goosed. -
Paint work warranty - worth nothing! 16 Jul 2007 (Forum)
It could only have been there for a couple of hours, but it has seriously damaged the paintwork (the laquer has lifted). No problem, I thought (how naive!), it should be covered under the paint work warranty. How wrong I was - bird droppings are an "external influence" so the damage isn't covered. I know bird droppings are corrosive - this is why I use a quality wax, and wipe them off when they occur, but surely paint should stand up to a dropping for a couple of hours? -
Bio Fuel - Jeep Cherokee 2.8 diesel 6 Jul 2007 (Forum)
Suspected this was just because the injector had been leaking and contaminated the oil by going past the rings. Removed engine and found damage to crankshaft and camshaft due to loss of oil pressure and as the car was under warranty replace the complete engine for him. He went away very happy however 9 months down the road it has now done the same thing again. Warranty has told him where to go as he has been running it on bio fuel but I don? -
All cars - PCP versus Cash 27 Apr 2019 (Forum)
I never got written examples as was not reeled in by the above. Any one good at maths that would like to prove or disprove his arguments ? New car price with 3 year service package and 3 year warranty is £13500 Car will be worth £ x in three years and 30k of use whatever standard devaluation is ) Versus - Pcp deposit in a £13500 car plus monthly repayment costs. -
