  • Insurance group-Prelude? 19 May 2006 (Forum)
Anyone know what insurance group a 1996 HONDA PRELUDE 2.3 LITRE AUTO would fit in? This is not the VTEC model. The car was originally a Japanese import vehicle and has many features that differ from the UK versions. They include. Four speed AUTO box with tiptronic shift, Air conditioning and climate control, wooden dashboard trim, racing style seats etc.
  • bankers draft ok for private sale? 19 Apr 2006 (Forum)

  • Unusual Isuzu SUV 21 Sep 2005 (Forum)
This week I'm commuting in from a friends farm and each time see an Isuzu SUV travelling in the opposite direction. As far as I'm aware it's not a model officially imported to the UK. It's quite a stylised, sporty loooking model, about the size of a Freelander and hasan integral hardcover for the spare wheel built into the rear door, in the same style as the Renault Scenic RX4.
  • Which van to buy? 8 Aug 2005 (Forum)
I am thinking of buying a Transit-sized (medium high roof) van. Economy in terms of fuel consumption/spares'n'repairs is important, as is reliability. I know little of vans. Any ideas/pointers to suitable vehicles, or "things to think about", will be very welcome! I think that if I can fit in a few 8'x4' sheets of stuff, that will be great (however, I'm not a builder/in business).
  • Mondeo TDCi - 115 vs 130 9 Jan 2005 (Forum)
There seems to be quite a big difference in the torque numbers (206 vs 243lb/ft), which is what is most important in a deisel. Reason for asking is I've found a Mondeo that looks a good package but it has the 115 engine - would I live to regret not seeking out the higher power version?
  • 2001 Ford Escape-U.S. 26 Nov 2004 (Forum)
My father is moving back over here, he wants to know what is invovled in importing his current car (Ford Escape, or Maverick over here). Does it need to be modified in anyway to pass SVA test. All I can think of is headlight adjustment, being a fairly recent car it should pass emmissions???
  • BMW Z3 2.8 cylinder bores 12 Mar 2004 (Forum)
Obviously I'm anxious to avoid buying one of these but I'm a bit uncertain as to how to identify them. Can anyone help? Is it all pre 1998 cars that have these cylinder bores or just imported models? All information gratefully received D.
  • Pajero Brake Warning Light 9 Feb 2004 (Forum)
I have a Japanese Import 2.5TD Pajero on a K plate (1993). Recently the brake warning light has flashed on for a short period of time and then goes off again. Saturday I had to brake sharply and light illuminated and stayed on.
  • What makes you 'love' your car? 21 Jan 2004 (Forum)
Have you always stuck to one marque or have your opinions changed as a result of problems (reliability, servicing etc.), dodgy design/ styling in new models or other issues ? What factors are most important to you when choosing your new car ?
  • Astra 8v 22 Feb 2003 (Forum)
Just a question for you tech minded guys, do the 8v 1.6 engines in the new shape astra's have the same prob's as the 16v, and do they still need the cambelts changed at 40,000 miles along with the plastic tensioners ( if they are plastic ). I only ask because I had a reminder from my Vx dealer about how important belt renewal was on the 16 & 24v engines, but nothing about the 8v. Thanks in advance. Paul
  • Small secondhand automatic? 6 Feb 2003 (Forum)
Have spotted a few 1990-92 Renault Clio autos within price band, but the guides warn against old Renault autos for poor reliability. Most important factor is reliability. I'd be interested in hearing from anyone who runs a Micra or Punto CVT auto. Thanks in anticipation.
  • Yaris or Corsa? 15 Aug 2002 (Forum)
The Corsa is allegedly quicker (0-60, presumably even more so in-gear) and more economical (60mpg combined). The Yaris would be a UK car, the Corsa an import. Any comments would be appreciated.
  • Army Barmy 23 Feb 2002 (Forum)
I had a suspicion that the British Army was becoming politicised - this confirms it. Presumably HMG takes the view that while the fight against global terrorism is important, the campaign against speeding is more so.
  • 'Dog' clutches 26 Nov 2001 (Forum)
About twenty-five+ years ago Honda imported a little 600cc. saloon called the Touring. A friend owned one, and I drove it a few times. Fairly ordinary except for the clutch, which I believe was called a 'dog' clutch, and consisted of two castellated discs which just slotted in(fairly noisily!)
  • Continental lights Rover 200 11 Jul 2001 (Forum)
I have a barely used set of continental headlights for a Rover 200 Series 1989-96. The original car was bought in Germany new in 1991 and imported into UK by me 2 months later when UK lights were fitted. The car has now been sold. The lights are in immaculate order. Any offer considered as I don't want to have to put them in the bin!
  • Audi variable servicing 11 Dec 2000 (Forum)
Am I a luddite or is this the way of modern technology? Colin PS Great site, singing your praises over on the Audi and import newsgroups.
  • Import of a used car from EU to UK 12 Mar 2016 (Forum)
       3)  I'm aware that the car would need to gain a UK MOT and UK registration document and numberplates within 6 months of landing in the UK, but in what sequence? 4) And if the car is intended to be imported here permanently, do I in fact have to inform the DVLA that it's here, within 2 weeks? 5)  I have read that technically it is illegal for a UK RESIDENT to drive a car on UK roads that is still currently registered in another EU country.
  • Death of the 'agency' model 30 Jan 2025 (Forum)
Over 100 years of dealership sales offers, customer relationship nurturing and, crucially, the important feeling of being a customer allowed to make choices with actual humans.....taking that away and turning car retail into an experience similar to taking out a Sky subscription.... has not proved popular.
  • Dishwasher 1 Mar 2022 (Forum)
Nothing against the country but doesn't the UK make anything these days?  If the UK is so concerned about climate change why are we importing almost everything we need?
  • Honda CR-V hybrid - New car Road Tax confusion 24 Jul 2021 (Forum)
So, the list price of £40k, does it include extra for paint or is it the base listed cost? Important as the paint would take the car over £40k and I an getting conflicting advice from different dealers on whether paint extra is included or not.
