  • Hyundai i20 1.2 Petrol Classic 2012 - i20 Electric Power Steering - USB Audio Fault? 25 Aug 2016 (Forum)
It might also be affecting the engine management? After several attempts, the mechanical wheel and steering alignment are probably at last now correct. But on bad days, the steering & brakes do not feel safe. Does anyone have any ideas what to check please? Have there been other reports of this? So far, Hyundai have not been helpful.
  • Ford Mondeo II - Mondeo ST24 - poor handling, please help 7 Apr 2010 (Forum)
all four front wishbone bushes were hammered so replaced both arms over the new year.  I had a four wheel alignment done after this too. On dead straight roads with a decent surface, the car drives ok.  However if there is any kind of deviation such as a tarmac repair it feels like the car almost wants to steer itself when going over it, and sometimes it even pulls slightly towards whatever the deviation is.
  • Toyota Yaris II/Vitz (2006 - ) - Gearbox design flaw in Yaris (>2006) 26 Oct 2008 (Forum)
After nearly a month in the garage they 'replaced' the gearbox. At least they said they did. They haven't really. They've just replaced the alignment rings. I'm confident about this because they won't give us any paperwork showing that a new gearbox has been put in. I'm also confident about it because the gear change is now awful. It's extremely difficult to get the car to go into first unless you wait quite a while for the oil to warm up.
  • Audi A3 - Second hand car troubles - rights? 1 Aug 2017 (Forum)
The door damage I'm happy to cover myself and I've had a quote for £200 with a local body shop we just want the engine issues sorted. We have spent £350 on tyres and alignment as well as tax for the month and insurance so returning the car for a refund wouldn't be great particularly with the complication of the door damage. All going well they will be reasonable and repair the car for us tomorrow but I would like to know what my rights are should they refuse.
  • BMW M3 - Bought used car, in need of undisclosed repairs 16 Nov 2016 (Forum)
It had an oil leak from the rear diff; an oil leak from the pressure relief valve on the engine; needed new rear pads and discs (completely gone); and needed new front tyres (beyond legal limit). Aside from that I had to do a wheel alignment, replace sump plug, replace wipers and do a brake fluid service. The car still has a non-functional horn and warped front discs. After much negotion with the manager of the workshop I managed to bring the bill down to 2700 GBP.

  • Volvo S40 5th Gear Problems 20 May 2007 (Forum)
i really need to know where the remaining bushes go incase that is the issue, i am also about to go check the linkage alignment although i don't suspect this to be the cause as it's so specific when it happens and i wouldn't think a bit of misalignment would throw it out of gear any help greatly received chris
  • Argh! MOT due next month :-( 6 Apr 2007 (Forum)
Do you think it's worth trying this or could it have adverse affects on the geometry of my front wheel alignment given that the bushes aren't meant to go onto a 323Ci wishbone? Blue
  • Driver wins over 30mph Speeding appeal 1 Feb 2007 (Forum)
A judge allowed his appeal after hearing expert evidence that laser devices can give faulty readings if they are not aligned properly. His lawyers argued he had no case to answer because the officer operating the device had not done the correct checks beforehand. However, Judge Andrew Woolman indicated the ruling did not set a precedent and will give a full ruling on his decision on a date yet to be fixed.
  • Lexus 460 - what connects the steering 27 Apr 2019 (Forum)
My mind was boggled reading the last two sentences, the car steers normally and the driver has full control as the steering wheel corrects and re-aligns itself, what devious form of black magic is this? now i trust Toyota as an honourable car maker more than any other car maker on the planet, but i want my steering wheel connected to the steering column and then by either a worm or rack to the steering tie rods and i want traditional hydraulics (which no doubt this car has) not some toy electric pump/device that can't cope with full lock, how exactly is the steering of this very fine and handsome (unlike later Lexi) car connected if the wheel can self centre whilst driving along?

  • Mazda 3 1.6 Petrol 05 Plate - Low Rev Vibration and Ambient Temperature Problems 26 Apr 2010 (Forum)
I had the alternator changed over Xmas as that was making a noise, when the mechanic replaced it he told me that the bearings were running out of alignment, the recent vibration is making me wonder if I've only just noticed the car does this or whether it is a new fault? Some ideas I have had are that if its got an exhaust gas re-circulator then it is becoming sooted up?
  • Volvo S60 (2000 - 2009) - 01 2.0 Indicator stalk replacement - Haynes manual 19 Dec 2009 (Forum)
The connector is a multipin jobbie which breaks automatically as the switch is withdrawn. Refit is a direct reversal of removal, but align the screw holes on the switch first to ensure the multipins line up (you can't see them at all so you have to do this blind. It is typical Volvo though in that everything seems to slot together naturally correctly, but you could in theory line it up wrong and bend the pins.
  • Insurance claim woes continue... 20 Jan 2007 (Forum)
Im starting to think my planets are out of alignment. My van has just come back from repair today, 5 days early. It was bad enough that I was given a huge VW LT van as a loan vehicle which was totally impractical for getting up some of my customers narrow driveways ( and not the Astra type van I was promised by the hire company ).
