  • Now I fancy an MGTF... 30 Jul 2006 (Forum)
I'd be swapping my 53 reg Focus for an 03 or 53 MGTF, probs the 1.8 135 (1.6 is too underpowered). So, just looking for people''s opinions and advice about the likely pitfalls really, I already know that the engine is prone to HGF, I'll just have to hope that it doesn't happen to me in the 2 years or so that I'll own the MG, if it does, it shouldn't be too expensive to put right if caught early I hope!

  • SORN & poss £5000 fine. 17 Jan 2006 (Forum)
t want to be the next metric martyr} of bricks on the average law abiding member of the public and its makes no difference, Labour or Conservative, it?s always been this way. Surely knicking someone's car is anti-social behaviour, but the government, the courts, etc., take such soft action that there is no effective deterrent. The poor victim will loose his/her no claims, costing him/her more in insurance costs over the next 3, 4 or 5, years than the thief is fined and in most cases, the thief does not pay anyway.
  • Fiesta 1.416v Zetec Won't Start 29 Dec 2005 (Forum)
I was wondering if I could get some ideas re the cause of this problem. My Fiesta T reg, 1.4l 16v Zetec-s engined Fiesta has broken down. It has 36000mile on the clock. The other day the engine started playing up a bit like it was being fuel starved or something, it was also down on power and sounded a bit like a lawn mower ie not right.
  • Thoughts on Next Car Choice 30 Aug 2005 (Forum)
Until a week ago, My head was telling me to buy a Tdci mondeo (nearly new or car supermarket), but the prospect of being a two Mondeo family is a little too much to take! Heart decision is to buy a late '80's Porsche 911 3.2 (G50 gearbox), either Targa or Carrera. Very different, but I don't need to take the family (I can take all but one of the family for short journeys in a 911) and in my head, the extra maintenance costs of a 911 will be 'sort of' a trade off against the depreciation on a Mondeo vehicle....

  • Labour rates top £150 per hour 19 Jun 2004 (Forum)
Eleven manufacturers had peak charges of more than £100 an hour ? a Ford dealership in London asked for £106 an hour compared with the company?s national average of £50. In all, Warranty Direct says the number of garages around the country charging over £100 has increased threefold in the last 12 months. What Car? editor Rob Aherne said: ?The marked differences in labour rates really makes shopping around worthwhile, so don?
  • New Fiesta 2003 startup failure! 23 Mar 2004 (Forum)
Hello, I just bought a Fiesta 1.4 with Tiptronic Transmission. Car is second hand but it\'s mileage is only at 2300km round the clock. My problem is about the ignition. Usually after half an hour break between driving, it happens. The engine cranks but not fire and fails to start. It may take 2-3 times to retry.

The Parklands man was then cited for having number plates that differed from the number on the Uno\'s windshield disc. The licence number on the disc is CA 400 617, while the number plate reads CA 155 360. \"I bought this car from another guy about a year ago and did not know I had to change the number plate or check if the disk matched.
  • Police RTA response time - 40 Minutes ! 29 Dec 2003 (Forum)
This is not a dig at the emergency services because they were very good in dealing with the incident but its left me concerned because this may have been a much more serious incident and the time it took for my 999 call to be answered could be life and death in some cases. Perhaps polices forces should be investing in more control staff and traffic cars not s************ vans ? The police have also informed me tonight the car which started the accident has no insurance. Advice anyone ?
  • MX5 or MR2? 30 Sep 2003 (Forum)
We test-drive both cars on Saturday, virtually back-to-back, which will be interesting and we have both driven a couple of MX5’s before and liked them, though the 1.6 is a bit gutless. The car needs to be convertible, fun, and reasonably inexpensive to run and will be used by one of us for our daily commute as well as for enjoyment at weekends and occasional longer journeys.

  • Ford diesel experts - advice needed 25 Feb 2003 (Forum)
I'd like a new Mondeo diesel and this is where you Ford Diesel experts come in: How many Diesel variants have their been in the NEW mondeo since it's introduction? Was the 1st 2.0 "TD" New mondeo a bored out version of the old Mk2's 1.8TD? Are the 115TDCi and 130TDCi the same engine with slight tuning differences. What about the new TDCi due from ford/PSA - is it completely new again or based on the current chain driven TDCi? I'm reading a lot of useful stuff on here about case hardening problems and flats spots due to buggy EMS software - is this sorted or still ongoing with new models?
  • Cheap motoring 19 Jan 2003 (Forum)
If anyone can beat that and then sell it to a happy buyer please let us know. The replacement car is a B reg Polo Coupe S (27000 miles) that used to belong to my MIL, she gave it to us as she now has a new Polo 1.4. Just given it a good wash to get several years of muck off it and it looks about 5 years old, odd dent etc but nothing that cant be put right.

  • lights out all over the place 24 Nov 2001 (Forum)
There have been a few threads about lights recently, but nothing about checking the little s*ds to see if they work, and foglight boys, it's no use switching them on to create an impression if only one works. These few tips may be well known, but if they are not, here goes. I'm personally embarassed if I find a light not working, and maybe there might be another few like-minded souls around.
  • Smooth driving style 9 Nov 2001 (Forum)
My heart was filled with joy when l looked in my mirrors to see that the traffic behind was moving in a similar fashion. I felt like l was doing a service to 100's of clutches and left legs everywhere. And then what happened...? The truck behind me indicated and pulled out into a brief gap in the middle lane (Created where one driver had momentarily lost the will to live perhaps?)
  • Classics for everday use 23 Aug 2001 (Forum)
To those who might argue for conservation vs. gas consumption, I would say the car was made long ago, and its continued use is surely a better use of resources than a Mondeo or similar which is a heap of junk after 3-4 years. As for emissions, my mechanic says it's no worse than a 1980's car. On my planned return to UK I have a reliable low cost fun car waiting for me. Why bother with anything else on a mileage of say 10,000 a year? If anyone else out there is a Mustang fan I'd be pleased to swap atories anytime.
