BMW 5-Series E60 - Diesel Dilemma 29 Mar 2010 (Forum)
Almost immediately the car is running smoother, not quite as well as 3 months ago, but is this because I still had 1/3 of a tank of previous fuel. Will continue to run out the old fuel and top up with the BP and see what transpires. My engine is the 525d, 19inch alloys, low profile not runflats, I have a skinny spare. Anyone else had similar? -

Audi A3 + S3 (2003 - 2008) - A3, A4 or Honda Civic 18 Dec 2009 (Forum)
Other possible options I'll look at this week are the Mazda M3 and Golf diesels but am happy to shop around though I need something by Jan 4! As someone who knows very little about cars, I want something fuel efficient and reliable most importantly, but obviously something I enjoy driving too. I'd welcome any advice. Cheers, Paul -
Renault - Master - 96 2.5 too much oil- no engine start 23 Sep 2009 (Forum)
When started, it is fine throughout the day. Just a little more sound than normal (slight knocking). Halfords auto shop told me to drain the fuel, change the diesel filter and flush the system (not sure how). This morning, I cannot start the engine and the battery is slowly dying. Have I totalled the engine? What is my best move now? Thanks for any advice, Matt -
Citroen Xantia (1993 - 2000) - 99 2.0 HDi Auto Diagnosis Light 10 Sep 2009 (Forum)
I don't know if its a co-incidence but I had filled up at a supermarket about 20 mins before the AD light came on. I have read that supermarket fuels are not as good - is this true or fuel snobbery? I am not that bothered about the car being in limp mode but am towing a caravan in about 8 weeks and wouldn't mind having the power there for that. -
Peugeot 406 (1999 - 2004) - 03 2.0HDi Car not starting 6 Aug 2009 (Forum)
When repeated later, same again, but higher revs before shut down (2 secs) Diagnostics indicated a fuel regulator problem and the high pressure fuel pump was changed (Siemens version, no pump in the tank). The contacts for the regulator on the old pump were blackened, which suggested the solenoid had overheated. -

Nissan Sunny (1991 - 1995) - 1994 1.4 passed mot then conks out! 28 Mar 2009 (Forum)
While returning from mot station with friends Nissan Sunny (which it passed) the car started stuttering as tho running out of petrol. I had some fuel in the boot and topped it up......after a lot of cursing and cranking the engine eventually fired and drove home without further trouble. The following day the car refused to start.....cranked over no problem but would not fire. -

Renault Laguna II (2001 - 2007) - 03 1.9dci Engine "stop" light and other problems. 15 Jan 2009 (Forum)
Please help, i bought a 03 reg 1.9dci laguna a few weeks ago and started experiancing problems i was driving down the motorway when the engine stop light and the engine management light came on. i pulled over an it would not start again so i got recovered... a mechanic mate of mine looked at it and now its seems to be a ecu or injector fault as its losing the coding..is this a regular problem or can anyone shed any light.. hes fitted a fuel filter and got the diesel to maintain pressure but apparently the injectors are working intermitently thus allowing NOT enough fuel through hes also eplaced a turbo solenoid and cleaned the egr valve and throttle body... short of taking it to a main deal who will probably charge a fortune im and hes at a loss he did say i needed to obtain the code for the key. how do i get this what do i ask for and roughly how much is it? -
Citroen ZX (1992 - 1998) - 1994 1.9 Diesel losing power 2 Aug 2008 (Forum)
I am a disabled person with a Citroen ZX diesel when I was coming home from a long trip the other day my car started losing power on the motorway. LIke spluttering. The fuel tank was at 3/4 full and no other apparent problems. A friend of mine suggested that I should get the Fuel filter and the Cam belt changed so I went ahead with his advise but after spending £160 on it the problem is still there infact it seems to be worse. -
Enjoyable motoring still possible! 24 Jun 2008 (Forum)
The A3 did 51 mpg over the whole trip too (average speed 42mph according to GPS), another advantage of uncongested roads. Unlike trips up there a few years ago fuel is the same price as most of the UK ? the only exception was Mull where fuel was about 10p a litre more than the mainland. Highly recommended. -
Best way to give employee a car? 19 May 2008 (Forum)
I know there are three ways of doing this: - 1. Buy or lease a car for him and he pays tax. He claims fuel back at how many ppm?? 2. Give him a car allowance anad he claims fuel back at how many ppm? 3. Give him the usual HMRC mileage rates and tell him to sort himself out. I am concerned that using 3, the car he would drive would not be of a standard suitable for the work, so would prefer 1 or 2. -
FIAT Cinquecento (1993 - 1998) - 97 1.0 Stuttering Cinquecento Sporting 16 May 2008 (Forum)
any gunk in the system, but it makes no difference. Our local garage has been unable to find anything wrong. Everything to do with the fuel system has been cleaned. It might be sensible to get something newer but I hate to throw a good car away for what should be a soluble problem. Can anybody suggest anything? -
Reducing Carbon Emissions . . . . 3 Jan 2008 (Forum)
Increase road tax on cars with CO2 levels f over 200g - seriously increase them to the 000s per year, after all posh won't mind if her Bentley is more exclusive will she! 4. Tax aviation fuel at the same rate as motor fuel - after all most of flights are non-essential. 5. Make all shops fit revolving doors - stop them having open doors and heating on full! 6. Deal with the blocks on moving home (Consistently good schools and stamp duty etc.) so people can re-locate rather than commute. -
Rover 75 (1999 - 2005) - (99-05) 2.0 Diesel engine cut-out 23 Dec 2007 (Forum)
On both these occasions I had allowed the level of diesel in the tank to drop to very low levels just prior to the engine failure but had refilled the tank and driven about 40 miles before failure. Diagnostic testing by a Bosch agent gave an error code which showed low fuel pressure and his educated guess was that the auxiliary fuel pump had an intermittent fault, but 2 instances in 11 months is not a lot to go on. Again the car seems to be behaving itself and replacement pumps are expensive, especially on an educated guess!
