Hope dashed

My wife has a Ford Focus and the dashboard has just failed - speedo, temp gauge, fuel gauge etc. A local auto electrician has advised that this is a known Ford fault and there was a recall sometime back which we knew nothing about. The auto electrician believes that Ford will change the dashboard out but will still charge for the labour? Do you have any thoughts or advice,

The reason is usually oil getting into the speed sensor on the final drive and, due to canbus electrics, this knocks out the whole dash. Costs about £90.
