  I have a vauxhall vectra 1998 and when I bought it it had a new battery fitted 3 months previous ,after 6 months running it packed up so bought another new one. this one has lasted 5 months and it finally succummed . when the car is stood with the dead battery the reading across the terminals is 11.5v.... when running the reading goes to 13.7v..... when I dissconnect the teminals from the battery when it is still running the reading across the terminals is still13.7v so the alternator is still giving a reasonable output..... could it be just coincidence that I have had two dud batteries or could it be something else any help would be appreciated Thnx............................

  Not a major issue however I have noticed recently that when I switch the Mondeo off and both cooling fans are running, i.e when the climate is on, the fans run on for a few secs before the ECU turns them off (which is normal) however one fan clicks as it spools down. I have checked for leaves and twigs etc though there is nothing fouling the blades.

  Had it serviced in the summer and have used redex stuff in fuel to clean injectors and just chnaged fuel filter but still running the same. It wont rev over 3,000 and starts smoking and spluttering at just under 2,500 revs.Feels as if misfiriing. Runs fine when warm with no smoking up intil these revs. Any ideas?

  I do not wish to turn away custom, but I refuse to deliver free of charge.My actual fuel cost is around 13p per mile, but wear & tear have to be taken into consideration, so I propose to charge 30p per mile, which includes my time. Are there any websites which give guidelines as to average running costs, or a template which I can use to work out mine? Suggestions/opinions please.

  I currently run an Audi A4 2.5 diesel Avant Quattro (1998), I do around 12k a year, wonderful car but a bit on the expensive side to run. I have recently had a bit of a braistorm and fancy running something a bit different for a while IE. a Triumph Herald/Vitesse (must be soft top even with bad the summer we are having), maintenance is not a problem I can do all that myself.

  From various pug websites it seems that only the later 1.9's fitted with catalytic converters will run on 95 ron unleaded petrol (and have a lower BHP), where the one'a prior to about 1992 will only run 98 ron fuel. Can the older 1.9 pugs be converted to run on normal 95 ron unleaded or will I be doomed to forever fill up this car with super unleaded or fuel additive.

  It's a 1998 1.6 Auto - not the best combo, I know - and the last couple of months it has been getting very difficult to start when the engine is warm after a long-ish run. Cold starts are fine but when warm it just turns over and either takes 5 mins to catch or won't start at all. If it does start the idling is normal (no lumpiness). It does mostly short runs with a 70 mile run once or twice a week.

  My 92 1.4 CVh escort appears to be running rich. It has a misfire at cold which when revved really hard produces black puffs of smoke. The exhaust is kind of a sooty black colour inside the tip, even though its only a few months old. The Cat rattled a while back for a month or 2 but has now stopped.

  i have a orange rectangle light with a star in the middle constantly on, on the dashboard. if i turn the ignition on without the engine running and i turn ignition off the fan runs for about a minute does anyone know what the problem is and how to fix it please ?

  This model does not have a dipstick  Recently I have been getting a message on longer runs 'Reduce oil level'  It lasts for a minutes and then goes off.  It repeats at random times.  The oil level is correct and the engine runs perfectly.  Is it just a faulty sensor?

  Hi I have a vw golf mk3 1.6 that runs erratically on idle. On inspection with engine running the throttle valve is opening and shutting very quickly as if the auto choke is trying to adjust constantly. Driving through rev range is ok any ideas?

  When you hit around 50mph the van rocks forwards and back like you are blipping the throttle or its searching for fuel? It takes a while to build up...

  We have just changed a motor in a 320i to a 325i. The car runs ok but i am running the old air flow meter and ecu. Does anyone how to convert to the 325 ecu as the wiring is all different?

  I've not run my Ducato for a month or so and the clutch appears to be seized - any suggestions please? When engine is off i can depress clutch and put in gear When engine is running and i depress clutch, it won't go into gear.
