  • Breakdown Cover (again!) 24 May 2025 (Forum)
I was quite happy to renew when on the payment page I noticed a cross next to the ‘cover for cars over 15 years old’. I clicked on this and it added cover for cars over 15 years old (the MX5 is 21) and suddenly the annual price changed from £59 to £75.  Is this a new thing with Autoaid?
  • Toyota Aygo - Toyota 10 Year Warranty - Suspension 5 Dec 2024 (Forum)
If I had a 2 year old car with say 20,000 miles on the clock and the suspension failed, I think I could get it repaired under warranty. The car has always been serviced by Toyota to fulfil the terms of their 10 year warranty: https://www.toyota.co.uk/content/dam/toyota/nmsc/united-kingdom/owners/warranty/toyota-warranty/toyota-warranty-ts-and-cs-june-2022.pdf The car is 7 years old and has 47,000 on the clock.
  • Peugeot 308 SW - Battery completely dead 12 Jan 2019 (Forum)
I think I know the answer to this question already but it's always good to ask. My car is a ten year old 308sw diesel. Unlocked my car with the remote, got in, turned the ignition - one click and - not even a flicker of power. No interior light, no radio, definitely no engine turn.

  • No FM/AM by 2012 19 Jun 2009 (Forum)
I've just heard on 5Live that both FM and AM radio are to be switched off by 2012 and everyone will need some kind of DAB receiver to listen to the radio. Now I don't know how many new cars are being produced with DAB in them or as an option but I suspect that there will still be plenty of 3+ year old cars knocking around by then relying on good old FM/AM. I just think this is crazy, I'm not sure what is happening on the Continent but are their new cars going to have their FM radios swapped out for DAB ones when they are imported?
  • The rules have changed for bangernomic motoring 13 Jan 2009 (Forum)
id=5604 So the rules have changed. Shoudl the canny buyer be looking at a massively depreciated 3-5 year old car rather than a completely depreciated 8-10 year old, with a view to hoping it lasts him several years?
  • Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 2003 TDCi - Exhaust failure pipe into back box 8 Feb 2008 (Forum)
May 2003. 42000 miles I'm somewhat suprised to have found the rear section of my exhaust has failed. Yes I know the car is over 4 years old but I have a 14 year Merc SL with the original exhaust. I don't know of anybody who has replaced an exhaust on on a car less than 6 years old. Is this a common problem? Going to see the Ford dealership tomorrow for them to inspect...their parts department has confirmed they have never sold an exhaust for such a young car.
  • suggestions please 17 Nov 2006 (Forum)
budget is about £2k At the mo considering Corsa, Fiesta or polo but at this budget I can't find much that is less than 6yrs old and about 80k miles. Most Polos in this price bracket are 8 to 10 yrs old. Any suggestions ?
  • Long-life batteries 6 Sep 2005 (Forum)
Sorry if this is an old chesnut, but as a newish member haven't seen it come up yet. My Volvo 740 purchased in 1998 is still on the battery I aquired it with. The friend I bought it off didn't fit it, so battery must be at least eight years old, only time it has failed to start car was once when I topped it up, guess I diluted the volts.
  • '95 306 1.8 SR Sedan brake bleed nipples 30 Mar 2005 (Forum)
Greetings, All. I would like to change the brake fluid on SWMBO's ten year old, very neat and tidy, 31k mile 306 1.8 SR Sedan. The fluid has never before been changed in the car's life, and I'm concerned about shearing bleed nipples like I did Donkey's years ago on my MG Metro when the car was only three years old.
  • BMW 528 15 Dec 2002 (Forum)
Why on earth do people bother to buy new cars from UK dealerships. I have recently acquired a 528 Touring, 4.5 years old with the remainder of the BMW warranty for only 10K. A 35K car(with the extras), with thankfully someone else taking the vast majority of the most expensive element of motoring from me ie DEPRECIATION.
  • Cheap car insurance to sell a car?? 15 Apr 2013 (Forum)
Hi all, I have just received a letter from the DVLA informing me a penalty will be issued if I do not SORN my car. I bought a new (2nd hand) car a month ago and have kept my old car on the driveway taxed and MOT'd but with no insurance. I have been informed I need car nsurance as well - I wasn't aware of this. So my question is - does anyone know of any Car Insurace company that will insure my car (Vauxhall Corsa 1.3 - 8 yrs old) on the cheap bearing in mind I will NOT be driving it at all?

  • Insurance Query 29 Jun 2005 (Forum)
I have full NCB on 2 cars so I insure both my car, which is registered in my name, and my wife's car which is registered in her name. My daughter has just bought a new car, but not yet disposed of her old car. She wants to let her brother drive the old car for a few months.
  • First Car 10 Jan 2006 (Forum)
Hi as the title suggests, im currently looking for my first car. As a (car mad) soon-to-be seventeen year old, I am posed with more restrictions than most of you but still want to get the best I can. I was hoping that some of you might be able to give me some suggestions if I let you know some of my requirements.

  • Volvo S40 - car change 2 Dec 2012 (Forum)
My Volvo S40 is now nearly 7 years old, and has covered 75K miles. This year it will need a full brake overhaul and 4 new tyres, estimated cost around £1000. As the car is worth less than £4k, I have to decide whether or not to spend the cash and keep it, or change it.
  • Do you have to be thick to buy brand new? 8 Sep 2009 (Forum)
I always buy six months+ old - my merc - was9 months old - 9k on the clock - saved almost 9k Btw, I'm talking about Brit reg cars with 3 or more years guarantee. ========= PS: Brand new models from mass car producers will obviously hold their value better for the first 6/12 months
  • Retirement car for FiL 20 Apr 2007 (Forum)
My retired father-in-law is thinking about getting another car which will last him a good few years. New or up to two years old, three or five door, manual box, reliable, cheap to run, and corrosion-resistant (he lives by the sea). Image is of no concern nor is performance as long as it is comfortable.
