  ...build-up, and direct injection diesel don't? I've read that normal petrol engines are OK as the petrol acts as a solvent on the way into the cylinder and cleans deposits away. As diesel is a 'sooty' fuel anyway and diesels have been direct injection for ages, why don't they get the same problem?

  Without being too specific, a 'neighbour' was woken up last week by a knock on the door and a white van parked outside bearing the words 'HM Customs & Excise Fuel Testing Unit'.   Our car was losing power so we had new EGR fitted, when it was collected from the garage when accelerating it was almost as if the car would pause and then move forward again repeatedly,we discovered it had a hole in the fuel tank and tank was virtually empty. So we had a new fuel tank fitted but the car is still doing the pausing then moving forward action when accelerating, the garage doesn't know what it is so we took it to a diesel specialist and all tests show everything is working fine, Has anyone else had this and if so what was it and how do we stop it happening.

  Hi, I was hoping someone could help shed some light on the issue I am having with a y reg diesel fiesta Turbo Diesel. It has not been started in over a year but was running ok before it was taken off the road. I got it transported to my garage last week and fitted a new battery and glow plugs to it.

  (GPS and speedo verified). These figures are around 10% more than I use to get. I've check the trip computer, fuel fill up tank to tank and mileage etc. The car is a Ford Focus 1.6 TDCi 109 and using BP ultimate diesel. Is anyone else getting these kinds of economy returns from their TD's ? Any ideas ?

  Could the earlier low mpg be to do with the fact that the car has never probably been driven, if it has only ever pootled to the shops and back?  On Fri night I filled it to the brim, I put so much in I could see the fuel at the top of fuel pipe.  I then drove home and parked it on my drive, which it at a slight angle so that the front of the car is higher than the rear. On Sat it had leaked fuel onto the drive, it looked like it came from a pipe near the rear axel, a pipe covered with this foam sleeve.

At the moment the fuel has been in for 8 months, & I have added 5 liters of fresh diesel. First thing in the morning, it just turns over and over without any cylinders firing for 100 turns...
