Ford Ka, Fiat Bravo - Two car family - trade-offs 3 Jun 2011 (Forum)
I'd also prefer the 1.6 diesel as it's a much cheaper tax band, but there's few about and there's quite a premium as it does so well on fuel and tax. For some reason there’s a dearth of old-style astras, which surprises me as I thought loads would be outed as the new model would make them relatively obsolete. -
Jamie's got new wheels!! 28 Apr 2011 (Forum)
The 406 doesnt need an MOT or tax until March, and its not far off £300 for a tax disc on it, and its not the most fuel effeciant car in the world but its better on fuel than you'd probably think (and having sold the Focus for 3k, and not having to do mot or tax until next year, essentially its free motoring for a while!) -
Volkswagen Bora (1999 - 2006) - 02 1.9 tdi power loss / limp home mode 22 Mar 2011 (Forum)
They charged me £100 and told me there were lots of faults showing and having cleared them there were 2 faults still showing, fuel pump relay and something to do with the radiator sensor. They told me they wanted me to have these repaired first before they diagnose it any further, at a huges cost. (Found it cheeky of them to do this). -
Peugeot 306 - A small list of problems... 6 Sep 2010 (Forum)
when i turn off the engine i can turn off the ignition remove the key and the engine will continue to run for a few seconds. On a short trip the car wont be affected as much. i am thinking prehaps fuel pump not shutting off fuel or something to do with the idle? And lastly the steering wheel is off center although the tracking is fine. Take the steering wheel off? Thank you for taking the time to read this -
Volvo XC90 (2002 - ) - I'm getting used to it! 9 Feb 2010 (Forum)
I am slowly getting to grips with it and in fact most of the issues I now have with it are down to the poor preparation by the supplying Volvo dealer. Like all diesel automatics, it need to wake up and stretch in the morning and the fuel consumption is dreadful at that time and also stuck in traffic and city streets at any time. You can't quiet see the fuel gauge drop but the average on the trip meter certainly does. Also the heavy steering is a bit of a bind although it gets easier as the car gets warmer. -
Just feasable car commute LPG? 9 Dec 2008 (Forum)
Facts are 76 miles each way 152 miles a day 760 miles a week 3040 miles a month 34,960 miles a year based on a 46 week working year. Company to pay fuel costs for 1st year and a 50% contribution in 2nd year with hopeful salary adjustment. We run 2 cars, a Toyota Rav 4 1996 that returns approx 26mpg and a petrol 1.8 Picasso 2002 that returns 34.9mpg on above route. -
Living with the Seicento 8 May 2007 (Forum)
Its not that fast for sure and the high gearing means you often need a lower gear than instinct suggests, but its acceptable and the first fuel consumption return was 55 mpg with a mix of town and A/B roads, which is impressive and a trip to Lincoln on Sunday will be a real test for economy. Great car in town, very easy to park and visability is great. -
Help Please. Major Pug 206 Problems 22 Mar 2007 (Forum)
To summarise the usual suspects: Glow plugs - already eliminated Glow plug relay - you'd know about it even in the summer if this went Compression - Air in the fuel line - Battery - -
Indestructable Peugeot 309 22 Sep 2006 (Forum)
Well, four lears later and now with 166,000 miles on it, said car is still going strong, doesn't burn oil, and is still returning 53 mpg!! Even allowing for it's 5 percent overeading odometer, fuel consumption works out to 51 mpg. The car is also used as an automotive experiment. Apart from safety checks/annual MOT test, it never misses a beat despite the 15,000 to 18,000 miles annual mileage. -
406 Cambelt Gone - worth repairing? 10 Nov 2005 (Forum)
Car is worth (if someone buys it) probably £1200 running, but has been a faithful "armchair" to work.. for almost 100k. What else would one expect to go? Fuel pump? (orig) Turbo? (orig)Clutch (orig), gearbox (orig) ... b. Scrap / sell it for spares for £300? and buy a runner... Shame - -just had new Rad, bushes, disks, pads, tyres, and bulbs... Oh, and - Serpentine belt was changed two weeks ago due to "chirping" Could this be linked? -
Vandals, lighter fuel, glass & paintwork 2 Oct 2003 (Forum)
Last night, a friend of mine had the unpleasant experience of some vandals chucking what he thinks was lighter fluid over his car and setting it alight.... -
n/a - HGV speed limiters 1 Aug 2025 (Forum)
However, apparently the legal limit has been 60 mph since 2015 and I assume that HGV operators were choosing a lower setting, possibly to reduce fuel costs. At the moment I am condemned to a twice-daily commute between the M1 Junctions 8 and 11, fortunately outside the rush-hour both times. I don't drive fast and it has provided plenty of opportunity to check actual HGV speed as measured by satnav. -
Jaguar XF - Jaguar XF - Power loss at slow speed - limp mode 15 Jun 2025 (Forum)
Ive had the car in the garage twice with no issues being found but then it happens again. I do allot of long runs and only use premium fuel. It seems to be either the egr, turbo or somthing like that, however the car is not reporting any issues with them as there are no dash lights. Essentially, it feels like your trying to move off in a very high gear. -

Kia Sportage 1.7 diesel. - More frequent DPF regens. 30 Apr 2024 (Forum)
Any ideas what's causing this? The engine runs fine but i did notice that in the 30 mile journey on the motorway the fuel consumption was about 5 mpg lower than normal. -
Dacia Sandero - What's the best choice? 13 Apr 2024 (Forum)
Hi everyone, I'm coming to the end of the PCP for my (71 reg) Dacia Sandero, which is the bi-fuel model. This really helps me keep costs down, as I do around 18k miles a year for my job. Sadly, it's getting much harder to get hold LPG where I live (and the price has doubled in three years) Also the current model I have has gone up by £4000 in three years, so I doubt I'd be able to buy another one (and keep the monthly payments under £200 per month) I have been thinking about getting either a three year old electric Mg5 estate, or a hybrid Honda Jazz (current model) I'm just a bit worried about doing lots of miles with a 2nd hand car. -
Volvo C70 - Volvo C70 MK1 Cabrio-a worthwhile buy? 3 Dec 2023 (Forum)
The service history is patchy at best, but my friend had it fully serviced after purchase and had a new cambelt fitted. I appreciate fuel economy hovers around 30, but I don't drive much. On previous MOTs. it has only failed on tyres, never on corrosion. What are your thoughts on this car-be honest! What do I need to look out for? -
Honda Jazz - Getting car on the road after 3 yrs 27 Oct 2023 (Forum)
I'm aware that the battery is dead, it has two flat tyres which may well need to be replaced and it will need an oil / fuel change but I guess this would just be the tip of the iceberg. Obviously it would need an MOT as well (and the last MOT included an advisory for 'Macpherson strut pin or bush worn' on both the near and offside front upper). -
Hybrids for motorways 8 Jun 2023 (Forum)
Am I right in saying that for my driving habits, a hybrid is not probably not ideal? If I can find something that is significantly better on fuel that also ticks all the other boxes for me, I will consider it. However, I don't want to spend a lot more money for little return. Otherwise it may be another Mazda. -
Tesla - S Korea fines Tesla $2.2 M for exaggerating range. 3 Jan 2023 (Forum)
The Korea Fair Trade Commission (KFTC) said that Tesla had exaggerated the “driving ranges of its cars on a single charge, their fuel cost-effectiveness compared to gasoline vehicles as well as the performance of its Superchargers” on its official local website since August 2019 until recently. The driving range of the U.S.
