Fuel Consumption 9 Aug 2005 (Forum)
I recently discovered a little display option on my dash that gives average mpg current mpg (that one is depressing usually) distance to empty This is what comes from having a mobile computer for a car, I suppose. An old fashioned fuel gauge I could figure out and pretty much understood how it measured the contents of the tank. So can someone explain in simple English, how all the new stuff is measured and calculated? -
Yaris aircon re-gas 8 Jul 2005 (Forum)
Mrsb has a 2 year old Yaris which is having its second service today. Main Dealer said that an Aircon re-gas was "recommended every couple of year" at a cost of £99. As the car has been very lightly used (c. 8k miles in a mixture of local and M-Way trips) I declined until next year. -

Life cycle for the Ford Ka 17 May 2005 (Forum)
Will the baby of their range soldier on for ever in the style of a 2cv or the Mini or is an all new car planned. With the design almost 10 years old now with little development and (probably) quite profitable why change a sucessful niche product? If it aint broke why fix it (cliche) i suspect that it is a major dilema for the product planners on what to do with it in the next few years. -
Coil pack? Peugeot 406 24 Apr 2005 (Forum)
I've just replaced my coil pack on my 406. Its fixed my mis-fire problem but I'm just wondering what a coil pack does? The one on my car is a plastic sealed unit with 4 long rubber things that fit down some holes to the spark plugs, so something to do with the ignition. What will I find if I crack open the old one? -
Volvo 760 door mirror 9 Apr 2005 (Forum)
My mum has broken the glass in the door mirror of her Volvo 760 in a narrow road. It's electric and heated so will be expensive to replace the whole unit on an old car. But I had a closer look today and the casing is intact, only the glass is cracked. Anyone know if just the glass can be replaced or does she have to get the whole unit replaced by Volvo? Thanks in anticipation. -

Watchdog Peugeot 206 Stalling 23 Dec 2004 (Forum)
Just finished watching Watchdog. It seems there is plenty to complain about the Peugeot 206 both over 3 years old and new. A number of viewers have written in about their car stalling. Peugeot, to give them their due are investigating the problem and some owners report having sucessfully had the faults fixed under warranty. -
does anyone use veg oil for diesel? 27 Jul 2004 (Forum)
I am going to use veg oil from a local fish and chip shop (filtered) if I get an old diesel car. I was wondering if anyone knows what a non petroleum based white spirit is, what is the brand name and where to buy it? and how much to add? Then the duty to pay will be about 15p a litre, (yes I am going to do it legally). -
Focus electronic interference 12 May 2004 (Forum)
Sometimes experience 'electronic interference' which is again sometimes announced by the red ignition light coming on, then the central locking clicks as well as a small reduction in engine revs. The battery in the key has been replaced and the car is 3 yrs old with 22,000 miles. It has only been happening for approx 3 months and there is nothing else that appears to be wrong . Has anybody got any ideas what this can be or if it will get worse -

I have chance to buy my company car, a Mondeo LX estate, TDCi 115bhp, 15 months old, 32k miles, 4 new tyres just fitted, 9 months road tax. I am the only driver since new and has been serviced at the correct intervals. I am not aware of any faults with it. -
Range Rover Fire 7 Apr 2004 (Forum)
Last week my Fathers Range Rover became a total loss after a fire in the off side engine compartment. It was only two years old. Rover say the warrantee no longer applies because the car is a write-off. I can't believe this. The vehicle has been maintained properly and I would expect Range Rover to replace it. Has anyone else any comments to make. -
