  • Vectra 3.2 V6 2003 - Vectra cuts out and wont start......sometimes 5 Jun 2013 (Forum)
When I came out of the shop I tried starting the car and it wouldn’t start. Loads of power from the battery but just wouldn’t ’kick in’. No warning lights, no sign of any mechanical failure or fluids on the floor etc. I left it in the car park for about an hour and walked home to get my tool kit.

  • Honda CR-V - Unexpected 2020 CR-V Hybrid electronics melt-down 7 Apr 2025 (Forum)
to the Honda agency that has serviced it from new (although I originally purchased the car from another Honda dealership 150 miles away) - and expected them to say it was some minor electrical gremlin that could be easily sorted by disconnecting the 12V battery, or some such explanation. To my horror I received a phone call later in the day to say that the fault was in the Vehicle Stability Assist module ... and that the cost of replacing the faulty part would be of the order of £3,000 !!

  • Peace of change 24 May 2023 (Forum)
It never put a foot wrong, other than the high level rear brake light mysteriously unplugging itself. I’m used to stretching out the battery on the electric buses I drive daily, but it won’t suit her leaden right foot driving style. But she is happy and as quiet as her new car… for now. I will say that the Leaf is practical and nice to drive.
  • Brand perception and EV 12 Mar 2021 (Forum)
Granted some manufacturing principles can be transferred to EV but you don't need engine or gearbox in EVs. Is there anything to differentiate other than "range" in EVs? Now just like smartphones, battery capacity will increase over time anyway. So any EV if you buy today, next year you will get more for your money. So what will be differentiating factors in EVs? Other threads mentioned that JLR, Aston Martin are suffering.

  • Peugeot 306 1.9td - Peugeot 306 STOP light and radiator fan problem 20 Sep 2019 (Forum)
I have cleaned the connector multiplug on the left hand side of the radiator. I have cleaned the earth just below the battery housing. I am now left to think it can either be one of the following: replace the 3 relays behind the grill OR buy a new bitron OR replace the right hand side radiator fan. Can anyone offer any other fault finding tips or suggestions?
  • BMW 3 Series Touring - My 11 year old diesel 3 series touring 26 Aug 2019 (Forum)
I think I have been lucky. as the only mechanical parts it has needed while I owned it was rear tailgate struts, a leakoff  pipe and a shock absorber, plus one battery and tyres and servicing. Do I keep it or replace, and if so what with?   I do 8-10k miles a year now, like the way it drives. I have driven both the F30 and new G model 3 series (a saloon, estate not out yet).
  • Toyota Avensis - 2.0 vvti dome/central locking 7.5 amp fuse 20 May 2017 (Forum)
Might be related but the fuse was blowing three weeks before I washed it so probably not. If I disconnect the battery when the alarm is going off it carries on! It's doing my head in. Any ideas anyone please? Dave
  • Uncategorised Vehicles in UK Law 13 Apr 2017 (Forum)
I've looked at veg oil, but don't want to risk destroying my only transport by haphazardly modifying the engine. I've also looked at hybrid conversion, which is feasible, but finding a cheap motor and batteries is difficult. Luckily, I'm a controls engineer, so I can do electrics and programming fairly cheap, but I understand combustion engines are still initially cheaper, so I'm flexible in that sense.
  • Citroen C5 - C5 bad cold start, loss power under 2000rpm 5 Feb 2016 (Forum)
Also there is wery loss of power at the low rpm, nothing happens if you give fuld throttle from 1000 rpm to 2200 rpm, and also after 2200 rpm i dosent think the car seems fast enough. The injectors have been tested at bosch The starter goes fast enough Batteri condition is good The engine has been cleaned inside with a lot off different products Glow plugs has been changed Timning belt is checked and is correct Live data on turbo, high pressure pump( when it cranks ) is ok, egr valve is tried to blocked off ( still starts badly first time) And finally a compression test on all 4 cylinders : 20 bar on cold engine, is that enough??
  • Peugeot 3008 - Buying a crossover but which one 7 Nov 2015 (Forum)
Some says French cars are not reliable others say the new ones will give me 10 year or so. The tricky part is Peugeot 3008 Hybride comes with a battery pack and could be expensive to fix down the line. Second one in mind is Renault Kadjar. Which is very new to the market. So nearly new is out of the question. It looks like a decent drive but hasnt been tested properly but most importantly I can afford the price tag of a new car.
