Query: scooter/m'bike : quickest route to mobility 18 Jun 2014 (Forum)
In order to jump through the fewest hoops possible in order to get mobile, would the machine have to be less than 50cc? Would it have to be automatic clutch? And other such questions. It’s not clear yet whether the lad will be having to commute 6 miles across a city, or 24 miles to another town, along a single-carriageway A-road. -
what to buy! 2 Jun 2014 (Forum)
Sorry another what do I buy question from a newby.... I've got £3k to spend. I have to have an automatic as I've got nerve damage in my left leg and clutch control leaves me in agony. I would also prefer something with a bit of ground clearance as I live on a mountain up a badly maintained road with a lot of overhanging trees - my old Meganne acted like a snow plough sometimes. -
Mitsubishi i - Surging and slowing when cold 4 May 2014 (Forum)
My automatic "i" has done 34,000 miles, it has a full Mitsubishi service history and I have reviewed it for HJ. It has just developed a disconcerting fault when driving from 'cold' and I would appreciate some advice before entrusting it to our local (not particularly good and expensive) dealer. -

BMW 3 Series Coupe - Noisy Diesel Engine 20 May 2013 (Forum)
My BMW 3 Series Coupe 2.0Diesel Sport Automatic on a 57 Plate has full main agent BMW service History. It went in for a service and I was informed the engine was noisy. Thankfully the car has the BMW Exttended warranty, the car has covered 47,000 miles. -
I love my S-Max but.... 29 Oct 2012 (Forum)
I love the car for the way it drives like a seven seat Ferrari, the comfort of the seats, the reliability, the huge range of options it came with which I would hate to be without now such as ventilated seats, Xenon headlights, cornering lights etc etc. I get an average of 33.5mpg from my diesel automatic. We still need an occasional seven seater in the family and I am considering a Prius+. I reckon I will improve the economy by 15mpg at least, but that is no reason to change a car as I have advised many people in the BR previously. -
Daewoo Korando - Jerky Auto Transmission 27 Sep 2012 (Forum)
Our ancient (2000) tow-car is a Korando with the Mercedes 2.3 4 cylinder and automatic (4 speed) box. Recently the box has become "hesitant" : put it into drive, give it revs and after a second or two it leaps forward. It can also creep backwards down a hill when in Drive. The car is used only to tow a horse trailer and hasn't even done that for a few months, so I don't want to spend a lot on it but equally don't want to scrap it. -
Vauxhall Zafira - Central Locking Problems 16 Sep 2012 (Forum)
We have the version with keyless entry, so can lock the car either by pressing the front door handles or using the key fob, we cannot lock it manually with a key. To unlock the car you just pull one of the handles and it unlocks automatically. When locking and unlocking the car you can hear the lock making the right noise, but the door remains unlocked. -

Inertia Reel Seat Belts 3 Apr 2010 (Forum)
He was taken to the London Motorshow in the early/mid 60's, I believe 1963, and I was told it was because he had designed an automatic seatbelt which Britax were launching at the show. I believe this to be the Inertia Reel Seatbelt. I believe the company he worked for sold his design to Britax.....and no he didn't get anything for it. -
Volkswagen Golf IV (1998 - 2004) - 04 Feels like it's scraping the road when braking 7 Feb 2010 (Forum)
The reason I ask is I don't trust the garage 100% - they managed to crack the windscreen of my car during the service and only when I insisted that the crack wasn't there before did they go and ask the mechanics what had happened and it transpired that it probably happened when the car was coming down off the ramp.... they are paying for insurance excess, but their initial reluctance to take responsibility for this makes me cautious. It's a petrol automatic model. many thanks! -
Audi A4 B6 (2001 - 2005) - 03 2.5tdiPetrol in diesel - not started 25 Jan 2010 (Forum)
Luckily she did NOT start the car....... however inorder to push the car out of way the ignition had to be put on to free up the steering wheel and put the car in N (it is an automatic) I HOPE and pray that a full tanke drain should do the trick.. because the car had not actually run out of fuel am I right in assuming that techincally no Petrol should have made it to the Injector pump?.. -

Toyota Prius II (2003 - 2008) - 03 1.5 CVT transmission and engine braking 18 Dec 2009 (Forum)
The cold snap makes me ask whether this absence of effective engine braking is not a danger when driving in icy conditions, in which I have always relied on having the option to change down manually, or to select a lower range in an automatic transmission. Prima facie, I would not like to be unable to avoid accelerating down an icy hill with nothing to stop me except the brakes. What is the approved answer in a Prius or other 'CVT' vehicle? -
Vauxhall Vectra B (1995 - 1999) - 98 2.0 GLS auto - sport button no longer working 27 Nov 2009 (Forum)
Hi my 1998 2.0 16v automatic gls vectra b has a sport drive button on the top of the gear stick, until now it has worked fine and has always shown a small orange light on the dash indicating its in use, and you certainly know when your in sport mode as the gears do not change so quickly as in normal drive. -
Transfer of Reg Nos 10 Sep 2009 (Forum)
So, when I transfer the new reg to the new car does this mean the car doesn't have a reg no or does the old one get re-assigned back to it automatically? I also read that when I inform the insurance company of the change in reg no I need to tell them ... "in the event of a total loss claim...' whereby they effectively buy your vehicle (or what's left of it) off you due to theft, or as a 'right off', '...the registration mark will remain your property". -
Vauxhall Vectra C (2002 - 2008) - 06 diesel - Faulty gearbox warranty issue 30 Aug 2009 (Forum)
Hi, my friend purchased a 2006 vectra diesel automatic with 100000 miles recently, after 2 months the gearbox has developed a fault & will not change gear, vauxhall have quoted £3000 to replace it. The independant dealer gave her 3 months warranty & they have said they will pay the maximum £1000 as the warranty is limited, but she has to pay the rest her self.
