  • Jaguar XF - Reliability & Smoothness of 4cyl petrol '18 Jag XF 26 Apr 2021 (Forum)
However, I'm aware the car is getting on now, so I'm considering it changing it, either for a 2014 / 2015 last of the old shape XF 3.0D 240bhp / 275bhp S or a 2018 new shape XF 2.0 Petrol 25t 250 bhp. I have no doubt that the 2014 / 2015 will be far superior to my old 2.7D but I'd be very interested to hear from anyone with experience of the petrol new shape XF.
  • SEAT Alhambra 2013 - Battery/Door lights flashing - Alhambra 8 Mar 2021 (Forum)
After the last charge both automatic door opening lights on the dash are now flashing. If i can, I want to sort this issue(s) myself to keep costs down as gf is v likely to be made redundant imminently, that said we have nearly 2yr old triplets so time is at a premium. Also, my experience with cars is limited tho I'm a keen pupil...my questions are: Is there enough info here to get an opinion on whether this is easy for me to sort?

  • Mazda 2 - Wind tunnel noise 13 Nov 2019 (Forum)
I recently bought a 2016 Mazda 2 with 20k from a dealer and noticed what can only be described as a loud noise like a wind tunnel. Sitting in the drivers seat it appears to come from the rear, possibly n/s.  The noise increases with road speed and noticed at around 40mph and particularly constant at 60mph.  It isn't the same as tyre or road noise. The dealer told me to take it to Mazda for a second opinion and the tech said he had never heard a noise like it in 20 years at Mazda and first thought -wheel bearing; then said it sounded like wind noise through a missing grommet after checking what the selling dealer had said.

  • BMW 120i Sport auto 2015 - Electrical glitches 24 Jan 2019 (Forum)
In Dec 2018 I purchased a BMW 120i Sport auto (65 plate) with 34k miles from an independent dealer   Three times in the first month of ownership I noticed warning signs flash up on the central information screen to show a defective light(s) – each time a physical check of all lighting revealed no defect   The dashboard digital clock has to be continually reset as it regularly loses time – as much as 5 minutes over a single week   On 24.01.19 at 0630 the outside temperature was around minus 3 C.
  • Golf 1.4 TSI Match 2012 - Advice on VW Golf purchase 4 Dec 2018 (Forum)
Pending a test drive , I might even opt for the GT version if standard 1.4  feels under powered .   I am a bit restricted in my choice as my garage was built in the 1960's so anything bigger than a Golf MK 6 is out .   Mostly,  the car will be used for local journeys but with once a fortnight  longer journeys of 140 miles across Devon and Dorset which  will include Motorway , A and B roads .
  • Toyota Urban Cruiser - Tyre choice 3 Mar 2018 (Forum)
A tyre is literally the only contact with the road you have and finding the right one for your car is hard, there being so many different makes etc. Eventually, after a lot of net research, I settled on Kleber Quadraxer 2's and had a set fitted. My reasoning was that all season is the way to go. These tyres have a good pedigree and were a reasonable price for the particular UC size. From the moment I drove out of the fitters the car was transformed.
  • Jaguar X-Type 2.0d SE - X type update 28 Feb 2018 (Forum)
I was a little apprehensive - she's done 175,000+. Passed MOT no problem, same advisory as last year - there's some play on n/s/r trailing arm bush but not enough to worry about yet. What was more encouraging was that I always ask him at service or interim oil/filter changes (I get them done at about 5,000 mile intervals) to give the car a thorough going over for potential problems, including those outside the MOT.
  • Ford Fiesta 2006 - No-Fault claim advice required 9 Jul 2016 (Forum)
My daily workhorse Ford Fiesta was damaged while parked unattended on the street by a driver who reversed into the O/S/R door and ran off. Long story, I got some witnesses and reported the incident to my insurer, TP insurer and police. TP denied fault at the time and their insurance asked for my evidence. Very rude insurers.
  • Peugeot 407 (2004 - ) - 05 2.0HDi depollution/additive system fault 4 Feb 2016 (Forum)

  • Nissan Almera - Almera Gearbox 18 Oct 2015 (Forum)
The Nissan Almera 1.5 S, N16 petrol is a well designed strong motor together with a strong trouble free manual gearbox. I have worked as a trained mechanic for 25 years in a main Nissan dealership. Many people don't realise that you need to change the gear box oil every 50 - 70,ooo miles.
  • Need a car with high seating. 12 Sep 2015 (Forum)
Having looked at what is on offer I have narrowed my choices down to:- My favorite - Ford galaxy/s-max 2.0 diesel. Trouble is for my budget I am looking at cars with 100k+ miles on the clock. Would like the titanium because it comes with cruise control. New shape Mazda 5. Did have one when they came out, a 1.8 petrol.
  • Alarm bells ringing. Can anyone reassure? 12 Jun 2015 (Forum)
logcode=p I've called up the bloke, and he seems to prefer cash, when I suggested making payment via debt he said I could transfer the money.  I've done a little bit of digging and can't find anything on google that leads to S&H motors. However when googling his number it leads to more autotrader adverts under the trading name of H&T cars (All the same distance away from me). The post code he text me just shows a random street.
  • Citroen Berlingo Multispace 1.9 IDI - Rough Starting 2 Jun 2015 (Forum)
I f it had displayed the symptom spontaneously I’d have said glow plug(s) not right or, if not, air in fuel. Plugs were tested and pronounced OK for circuit, resistance and timing.   Observation on start up showed small air bubbles passing down line filter to pump in second after start but not necessarily coincident with roughness.
  • Any - Lotto and other syndicates 4 Aug 2014 (Forum)
I am currently in the process of finding ten steadfast souls to join a syndicate, with majority agreement on which game to tackle. If it`s the Lotto then it will be conducted using their own syndicate format which can be operated to contain a legally binding component.Maybe the lotto is the place to start until we get a few wins under our belts?
  • Vauxhall Vectra C (2002 - 2008) - 1.9CDTI Engine Build Quality 30 May 2014 (Forum)
The drive gear is the type of component that one might reasonably expect to remain sound even as the car is sent to the crusher after many, many years of service. Any thoughts as to GM`s level of responsibility on this one? This car is now only just three and a half years old and vital components (non-service items) are literally falling apart or going into holes !!!! Any input welcome, Steve Grove.
  • Citroen DS3, Abarth 500, Seat Leon SC - Difficult choices 28 Apr 2014 (Forum)
Its darn difficult to choose a new car these days. We're currently looking to replace our "fun" ride, a Mini Cooper S, which after 7 years is starting to have too many (minor) problems cropping up to stay. We've been looking at the sector and settled on a choice of 3 models (not necessarily the obvious ones). Our first test was in an Abarth 500 which put a terrific smile on our faces, the sound track is exactly what we were looking for and the ride and handling fitted the brief very well, so simple choice then, we get the Abarth.
  • Fiesta 2003 1.4TDCi - Ford Fiesta dipstick snaps 1 Apr 2014 (Forum)
The mistake I made was slightly turning the dipstick inside the tube. The bottom end of the tube inside the sump has two bends in it like a slightly flattend out 'S'. Unusually compared with other engines, this tube is longer than the dipstick and the part that broke off was stuck inside the bottom end of the dipstick tube in the last bend. This meant it couldn't get into the engine (not a chance I would take even now knowing this) but also I couldn't check the oil level.
