New Car for Under £12k 15 Sep 2013 (Forum)
My first car, a 2002 Vauxhall Corsa just died so I'm in need of a replacement. Even before it died I was searching for a new one but the situation has accelerated the need for a new car. For my next car, I ideally would like to get a new or at least almost new condition car. -
Volkswagen Golf V - Security system has disabled my Golf 3 Mar 2012 (Forum)
It must have had power in the battery by that time. I can now start car easily if I jump start, and car works quite normally when engine running but will not do anything after car is switched off. Is this an alarm problem which disables car if you try and jump start it? -
Advice on which car to buy. 27 Jul 2011 (Forum)
I am looking for less than 100,000 miles and less than 7yrs old. Ideally, less than 75,000 miles but I know I will have to raise my starting mileage on some of the cars I have my eye on. I'm in this to save money - I need a reliable car which will give me trouble free motoring and be cheaper to insure and maintain as well as fuel. -
Car security when parked in isolated places 14 Sep 2008 (Forum)
You can put stickers in your windcreen to say there is nothing within - but will they believe you? You could perhaps deliberately run an old car that looks less eye-catching - or does a new car appear more secure (better locks/alarm?) What does a police "covert capture car" look like? Does it have privacy glass, does it have a real or dummy camera visible within (or not visible within?) -
How much is my car worth....opinions? 1 Aug 2006 (Forum)
There is not rust around the car, arches are solid, drives fine. Its totally immaculate for a 22 year old car. Lots of history and receipts including orifinal sales invoice from 1984 car costing £9400 Then another invoice from same garage in 1986 for £7500 (first owner px's for newer audi in 1986) and second owner bought. -
Cheap car hire in Ireland Xmas/New Year 3 Oct 2005 (Forum)
At home, I find the best deals come from small independents -- there are several businesses around here which buy ex-fleet cars at 3 years old and run them for a few years, but I dunno of nay such businesses in Ireland. Anyone else know any? Any suggestions welcome! -
Back from Japan 19 Oct 2005 (Forum)
I also found myself behind a Citroen C3 on one of the motorways. Unexpected sightings included an old Xantia driving by Shinjuku station in Tokyo, and a *very* old and battered Volvo 240 estate in the Ginza shopping area! Another curious thing is that Japanese private cars are almost all coloured white, silver or black. -

Daihatsu Skywing (with stupid owner) - Mains Damage To Car Electrical System 21 Apr 2020 (Forum)
Can't get parts for this car now but perhaps these (or a whole new alternator) are generic? Fortunately this is an old car and AFAIK that (and a clock) is the only electronics on board, Might the battery have survived? -
Ford Focus Estate - Problem with a used car - CRA 28 Jul 2018 (Forum)
Went to start it today and I am face with a engine malfunction light and limp mode. Obviously I am not happy - I expected a bit more use out the car despire it being 10 years old. I have checked the warranty, which states a claim limit of £100 (not going to fix much at all). I havent took it to a garage yet. But if I do and face a huge bill what are my options. -

VW Tiguan - Haggling with franchised dealer? 2 May 2018 (Forum)
I am looking to buy a late 2015/2016 VW Tiguan 2.0 TDi BlueMotion Match Edition Manual 2WD, after my old Tiguan was stolen and written off. I have narrowed it down quite specifically as it is possible then to compare prices and spec. The local VW dealership does not have one in stock, but say they can order cars in from a national VW list. -
What fuel next 6 Mar 2018 (Forum)
My dilemma is I want a automatic next as the stop start weekly driving is killing my clutch foot. Do I pick a 1.5 tsi petrol DSG or a 1.6 or 2.0 tsi DSG, not sure as the car size says diesel but my driving warrants a petrol. I don’t think I am getting the benefits of the diesel as my highest mpg during the week is 43mpg. Oh one last thing, I only have £20k max to spend and preferably like a 1 year old car with warranty left, oh and the car needs rear air vents for the kids. -
VW Golf - Write off or salvage 8 Jun 2017 (Forum)
Sorry for all the questions but I am just trying to make the best choice and not be ripped off and I have no experience of this. The car is nine years old. I would appreciate opinions on what you think is best especially if you have been through this yourself and know the pitfalls.. Many thanks. -

Volkswagen Scirocco Mk II (1983 - 1991) - VW scirocco nostalgia 21 Apr 2016 (Forum)
Oh yes and the slightly quirky 'bent' gear stick.... i could go on. In 16 subequent years and about 12 cars later I am yet to eclipse that feeling of elation in the first drive of a new car - a close run thing with a 3 series and again with Pug 206 gti but neither was quite the same as that first real car experience. -
Ford Focus - Poor Dealer Service 26 Sep 2015 (Forum)
Having a run in with Ford over very poor service. I have had the car from very nearly new (2800 miles and 4 months old). It has had 3 dealer services at 12500 mls, 25000mls and 37500 mls. On at least 2 of these services, I have pointed out that the car squats oddly on a hill start, and that I suspect the handbrake is not set up correctly. -
Clio/Jazz/medium-small - Another buyer who's scared of the 2nd hand market 2 Sep 2014 (Forum)
I had bought it new, and had expected much more from it, having had other reliable Renault cars before it (believe it or not!!). My budget is Euros 10,000 maximum, and I want something 5-7 years old, and not older. I have mixed experience with second hand cars. I fancied the Honda Jazz, until I read about the cost of servicing. -
VW Golf MK6 SE - Tyre noise plus, in the last month to six weeks. 1 Aug 2013 (Forum)
To my ears the car seems more prone to noticing the differences in road surface now, more than is ever did and if the car travels over a sudden undulation, flexing the suspension, the noise is exacerbated during the deflection.
