  • Ford Fusion 1.6 TD - Tyre Sizes 6 Nov 2012 (Forum)
However, I do believe it would give my old bones a bit of relief. Adjusting tyre pressures does not help. I do not think performance or fuel consumption - which is great - would be significantly affected either. And clearances seem to be very generous as well. My insurance company does not seem to be concerned. Any thoughts or advice would be very welcome.
  • Vectra P-Reg - Dash & Brake Lights Failure, Not A Blown Fuse 20 Oct 2012 (Forum)
Today, i was in my dad's Vectra and the dash went off, no lights, no nothng at all. Speedo, temp guage, fuel guage, indicators...Everything went off. I was pulled by the Police just after it and to be told i had no brake lights either, i told the officer that my dash had also just gone off (the timing was really bad) and thankfully, they let me go but only after following me to the local supermarket car park and parked it there.
  • Vauxhall Vectra C 1.8 vvt petrol 2007 - Pronounced knock on idle. 19 Oct 2012 (Forum)
Engine management warning light (car with spanner through it) on. No detectable deterioration in performance or fuel economy. My Vauxhall agent has the car in at present and has discounted vvt solenoid. Has now homed in on cam gears but cannot decide if one or both have failed. Suggests changing one, the cheapest I assume, but if this fails to solve problem the cam system will, presumably, have to be stripped again to change the other.
  • Vauxhall Corsa C - corsa c 1.0l 12v won Start 10 Oct 2012 (Forum)
Since then I have been having no end of trouble trying to get it started. The car turns over fine, it's getting fuel and the plugs are sparking although the spark seems quite weak. When turning the engine over the rev counter bounces up and down like it has a mind of its own. I've fitted a new crank sensor and this changed nothing.
  • 2003 VW Passat 1.6L / 2003 Focus Estate 1.6LX - buying an estate - vw passat 1.6 vs ford focus 26 Sep 2012 (Forum)
Our budget is less than 4000 euros. Looking for something with relatively low mileage, reliable, good fuel economy and cheap to fix.    There isn't much available here in Dublin, and we have narrowed it down to these 2 cars - a 2003 VW passat 1.6L  and a 2003 F Focus estate 1.6LX.
  • Ford Mondeo 2.2 tdci estate - Average mpg 23 Sep 2012 (Forum)
On a long journey I can average 50 mpg. Based on fords figures even at 35 mpg I should get approx 531 to a tank. The car is serviced new fuel and air filters only one I have not done is pollen filter car has only 43k on 56 plate tyre pressures ok also. Any suggestions greatful.
  • ASTRA 1.6 LPD DUALFUEL - DOES LPG GIVES SAME POWER AS GAS 13 Aug 2012 (Forum)
PLease advise on this , which option is best? The only used car fits my budget/requirement is  Vauhall Astra 1.6lpg dual fuel. I am concerned if you get the same power and mpg  in gas/lpg as you get in petrol. I was told you loose power/mpg  in lpg in comparison to petrol. Also I was told look for bigger engines like Vectora whick offers 1.8 litre engine.
  • late 05 Ford Focus 110ps estate - Diesel particulate filter additive 29 Jun 2012 (Forum)
It seemed as if it would take more; presumably once the light is out I can add more at any time, but will just have to go through the fuel filler flap wagging procedure! I look forward to your clarification - Haynes say "take it to a garage" in glorious technicolour.
  • Ford Focus 1.6 TDCI - Ford Focus 1.6 TDCI 55p Plate DPF Refil 2 May 2012 (Forum)
However the more I read the less sure I am, I have also readd a refilling frocedure which involved opening and closing the fuel filler cap 3 times in 30 seconds which seems a bit far fetched to be honest. Has anyone actually carried out this procedure with any success, the car is past its warranty so paying Ford to do anything goes against the grain completely.
  • Peugot 306 diesel - Bad starting 8 Apr 2012 (Forum)
It will always fire on one cylinder; then after a few cycles 2, then it normally take another 1 or two goes before all four will go with a big cloud of smoke; then its fine for the rest of the day.   I have replaced : fuel filter, air filter, glow plugs, and have checked the relay to see that they are heat OK..  Any ideas as what to check next?
  • triumph america. - bike road tax??????? 27 Mar 2012 (Forum)
My car produces 119 grms so the tax is £30 a year, it averages just over 52 mpg. My motorbike which I am having to use more now due to the price of fuel averages 60 mpg and produces 84 grms CO2, it also uses less space on the road and I am less likely to create traffic jams. Yet my tax is £74, if it was a car no tax would be payable. The old excuse by the government was that bikes were for leisure, not today they arn't.
  • Vauxhall Corsa C (2000 - 2006) - 02 1.0l Won't start 16 Mar 2012 (Forum)
Two days later I went to start it in the morning and it wouldn't even fire. I've checked for a spark and all three plugs are firing fine, also fuel is reaching the cylinders but it just won't fire at all. I've even tried towing it and nothing. All electricians I've spoken with tell me to bring it in and they'll have a look, no doubt costing me a fortune in the process and I'd prefer to narrow it down if I can before being compelled to dig deep!
  • All diesels - Which driving style produces the least diesel soot 24 Jan 2012 (Forum)
An small engine with lots of boost produces more soot than a bigger less boosted engine producing the same power. 4. It is about the fuel that you buy. Does anybody know?
  • zafira 2.0 dti - egr cleaning 11 Nov 2011 (Forum)
hi , iv had problems for the last few months with the service light coming on and restricting the car to 2500 rpm, i had the codes read and found out it was the egr valve and a glow error,, the guy told me 8 times out of ten you can clean it and armed with that i gave it ago , iv cleaned the egr valve best i could using carb cleaner , while i was at it i cleaned what i think is the inlet manifold? where the egr valve connects,i had to undo the fuel lines/injectors to get this off for cleaning.. anyway iv put it all back together and now the car just will not start iv tried to blead it but the injectors are a night mare to get to and i managed to get one off theres barely any diesel coming through any one got any ideas whats gone wrong?

  • Seat Leon 1.9TDI FR - Seat Leon 1.9TDI FR 17 Oct 2011 (Forum)
I decided to buy an older diesel to avoid problems with DPFs and the later piezo injectors fitted to VAG diesels.  The 1.9TDI also seems to be a fairly fuel-efficient diesel. Does anyone on here know what problems are likely with this engine/model, any preventative maintenance to prevent problems, etc as I'm conscious the car is 7 years old already and I've never bought a car this old before?
  • The would you swap game 2 Oct 2011 (Forum)
Ideally slightly newer than mine I've got kids so got to be 4 seats at least. This game isn't purely about value of the car, you could see veyron but the fuel and insurance would be prohibitive for most of us. You've got to be able to affotf to run the new car your imaining swaping for. I tend to find round Surrey way i'd swap for about 40% of cars in car park.
  • Peugoet 307 - Peugeot 307 HDi 110 down on power 8 Aug 2011 (Forum)
It was gutsy through almost entire RPM ranges and turbo lag was virtually un-noticeable so I'm sure the more powerful 307 shouldn't be like this. Fuel economy is also down, I'm only getting around 35-38MPG. Any ideas what the problem might be? All suggestions are much appreciated
  • Skoda Octavia - 1.9PD injectors 2 Aug 2011 (Forum)
So, I contacted Skoda customer service, gave them the registration plate of an 09 example from a local dealer and asked who made its fuel injectors. The answer was Siemens. So, the HJ car-by-car has it correct. (I also asked if it had a diesel particulate filter (DPF) and they said it didn't.) Having read a lot of bad things on the net about Siemens piezo injectors on VAG diesel engines, my impression is that the Siemens injector failures are way more common on the 2.0 engines (e.g. in the Passat) than on the 1.9 ones, the 1.9 seeming reasonably reliable.
  • All - Open Windows Cost More Than Air-con 11 Jul 2011 (Forum)
The concerned staff at Kwik Fit are very worried that by driving with our windows down, we are collectively wasting £650,000 a year (cf £50,000,000,000+ collective annual fuel bill). Fortunately, the kindly souls have got a solution. They can recharge your air con for only £49 so you don't have to fritter away the £££s by driving with your windows down.
