The would you swap game - S40 Man

In a car park or walking round do you ever look at other and ask yourself, would you swap?

My current car is a mkII S40 2.0D with high mileage

My criteria are must be 5 star crash rated since I had a bad shunt a while ago.

Ideally slightly newer than mine

I've got kids so got to be 4 seats at least.

This game isn't purely about value of the car, you could see veyron but the fuel and insurance would be prohibitive for most of us. You've got to be able to affotf to run the new car your imaining swaping for.

I tend to find round Surrey way i'd swap for about 40% of cars in car park. I think thats pretty good, and that my car suits my needs.

Finances allowing is this a good model to tell you when to actually get a new car.

I never look at other cars in that sort of way. I'll look at cars which are unusual, but purely out of interest.

Maybe I'm biased because we have a wide variety in our stable

A Honda Jazz runaround - now 6 years old

An MX-5 for fun

A land cruiser to tow our caravan, take the dogs out and (since it has all season tyres on) as the winter transport. Now 4.5 years old

All of them were chosen especially for their purpose; I'll likely still be running the same 'fleet' in 5 years time.

This is a good game!

I always look around and do comparisons to my car. At the moment I am hankering after something a lot less sensible that I have got, so I keep looking at Audi TTs, 350Zs and other coupè types.

On the whole though, I like the looks of mine and it's a very reliable beast.

I find the vast majority of cars boring and or unappealing, the endless rows of hatchbacks and crossovers no more attactive than the choices in washing machines, cloned to the nth degree and often downright ugly...Nissan Joke a prime example but there many others, Audi A1 now competing with Micra for ugly as sin, MB's banana shape and others complete with the arrow slit windows shaped in above the slab sides, Honda's latest ruinous blinging up of the previously simply handsome Accord, how on earth anyone can find them in the least attractive is beyond me.

There's only a handful of cars i'd currently swap my 15 year old Benz for.

Landcruiser or Hilux of any variant, Lexus GS450h, Hyundai Sonata/Kia Magentis.

The first because i've had them before and they are no nonsense tough reliable and durable and unique, Second because it gives sports car performance with limo silent luxury with the costs of a large Diesel car and is unique, Third because they offer just about the only 3 box traditional and reliable saloons you can still buy here so are now unique.

The average car park leaves me feeling quite happy with my choice.
