Vauxhall Corsa 1.3 CDTI - Poor Fuel Consumption 10 Feb 2012 (Forum)
Hi, I have a 04 1.3 cdti Corsa, this pass couple of months it has started using a lot more of fuel. I was getting around 520 per tank. I am now lucky if i get 400 per tank, I drive the same route everyday and the same mileage, the car has been service 5K ago. I can’t see any fuel leaks and it starts fine, any ideas? -
Vauxhall Vectra C - water in fuel filter warning 8 Jun 2011 (Forum)
Hi all, I have a vectra cdti and recently the warning light on the dash which apparently indicates residual water in the fuel filter started coming on. I used the bleed valve on the bottom of the fuel filter to bleed it for a few seconds then tightened it up again. Now it only comes on when the engine is cold and goes off again after about 2 minutes of driving. -
Ford Focus II (2004 - 2007) - 04 1.6 Fuel Saver device 13 Aug 2008 (Forum)
I have been surfing the web to try to find out if there are any ways of saving fuel, I have seen an advertisment for a device called 'Pilot Green'. I believe that its one of those magnet type devices you attach to your fuel line. I was wondering if anyone had tried this type of thing and if it actualy worked?. -

Mondeo TDCi fuel filter change - Q? 8 Jan 2007 (Forum)
Hi, I am thinking of changing the fuel filter myself because it is due though a full service is not yet due, the filter is easy to change, it clips in and has quick release pipe fittings, also the system is self bleeding though I dont want to crank the engine to get the air through, how about applying power to the lift pump for 5 mins or so to pump the air in the new filter back through the fuel return to the tank? -
The gross costs of fuel taxation. 6 Dec 2006 (Forum)
http://img.thisismoney.co.uk/calculators/calcPetrol.html (are the tax rates current?) and don't forget, the annual fuel bill is shown as net, so grossing up is required. I cover about 40 000 miles per annum in/on various vehicles, averaging about 25 mpg. At a marginal tax/NI rate of 41%, I estimate that I contribute about £7.5k to the treasury in fuel tax, VAT and income tax/NI on gross earnings. -
Avoiding using the wrong fuel 22 Nov 2006 (Forum)
Why is it not possible to have a proximity buzzer/alarm that sounds (either on the car or the fuel pump) when the wrong nozzle is waved within a foot or so of the filler pipe? -
Crude oil Price V Pump fuel price 24 Aug 2006 (Forum)
Plucking some average figures out the air, for today, crude oil is $75 a barrel and fuel at the pump is £1 a litre. I can't do the maths but if oil went to $150 a barrel what would that do to the pump price of fuel? I appreciate that it wouldn't double as well, obviously! One pundit/doomster is talking about $250 a barrel for crude - what would that do to the UK pump price, assuming Greedy Gordo keeps his taxes at the present levels? -
Water in fuel (intentionally) 31 Jan 2006 (Forum)
In the case of diesel, water also reduces the tendency to detonate and significantly lowers NOX emissions. California is making an 80% diesel 20% water fuel available at commercial filling stations. -
Short measures at fuel station. 10 Sep 2005 (Forum)
Tired and unemotional I stuck £20 of fuel in the Picasso late on Sunday night. A few miles down the road I noticed the gauge had hardly gone up at all - Even less that I expected with fuel at these astronomical prices [before anyone says it]. -
Pug 306 fuel filter 11 May 2004 (Forum)
Hello all, My car is a 306 1997 xtdt. i recently changed oil and filter, air and fuel filter. Everything ok except the rubber bulb primer that is used to pump fuel into the new filter is always soft.by that i mean it takes about three or four pumps to firm up even after the car has been run, this isnt a problem as it always starts after being left over night, but i was curious as to why the bulb now goes soft as before it used to stay firm? -
Summer/Winter Fuel Consumtion 23 Dec 2003 (Forum)
I know that the consumption readouts from on-board computers are not necessarily that accurate but I would have expected that cold weather and low temperatures would have improved my indicated fuel consumption. The fact is that, regularly driving the same 15 mile route in the same manner, my fuel consumption has worsened by about 5 mpg indicated. Any ideas please? The figures are still accpetable but I would have thought that cold weather would have improved the engine's overall efficiency but this does not seem to be the case! -
"Fuel Trim Limit" code 17 Nov 2003 (Forum)
Volvo V70R The 'engine management light' came on earlier in the week, had it investigated and the code came up as "Long term fuel trim limit". The light was extinguished by garage (two days ago). Anyway, today the light has come on again, so I'll need to take it back. Does anyone know what "Long term fuel trim limit" may mean in normal speak? -
Clio Erratic Fuel Gauge 18 Apr 2003 (Forum)
My wife's 1400cc Clio Rt Auto 1994 has an erratic Fuel Gauge. It seems to read high even when only half full. At other times it remains high on the needle until the 'Low Fuel' light comes on then it drops. I have checked the float mechanism that has differential springs top & bottom biased in the 'down position' where the resistance readings & float action is OK. -
Petrol v Diesel v Dual Fuel 12 Mar 2003 (Forum)
(Thinking high mileage) Diesels cost more, but do they depreciate less? Some petrol engines are very fuel efficient and not that far away from diesels. Will dual fuel always be as cheap as it is now and how much do they depreciate compared to the other two? Are the Whatcar depreciation tables accurate? -
'85 golf gti starting trouble 24 Feb 2003 (Forum)
Eventually the engine would start and when driving it seemed fine. This problem has now got so bad it will not start at all. I've changed the fuel filter + metering head with no change in symptoms. There is definitely no fuel reaching the injectors on turnover however the fuel pump seems to be working ok, supplying fuel to the metering head..... any ideas?? -
