  • Small Van recommendations 14 Dec 2004 (Forum)
Regarding warranties, I understand that existing warranties can be transferred into the new owners name (?) but they only get the warranty that is left. For a 2nd hand vehicle whose warranty has run out, is it possible to get one from the dealer? (does this make sense?) Any help appreciated. -- If at first you do succeed, try not to look astonished
  • Problems with my Peugeot 205 27 Nov 2004 (Forum)
I have an old Peugeot 205 XS 1.4L, it seems to be fine when running around town but when I try and take it over 60mph it seems to judder quite badly. I?ve replace the petrol pump as I thought it could be that but it didn?t help. The other day I ran it with out the air filter and it still wouldn?
  • ford escort central locking 14 Nov 2004 (Forum)
Is it feasible to swap the passenger door lock with the driver's door lock, this would at least save him having to run around the car every time he needs to get in? Any suggestions would be welcome before i start tinkering. Thanks in advance.
  • Pug 406 Door trim - removal. 16 Sep 2004 (Forum)
It is the two switch layout with some sort of small tray which could be an ash tray or possibly for collar studs. I have tried levering off the surround which is separate from the tray but my nerve runs out when things start to bend. Am I missing something? Is this an area where there is much expertise or am I pioneer? Any advice would be welcome.
  • New car on 1st September 25 Aug 2004 (Forum)
Yes, yes it's the one I can afford because I've worked hard, paid off my mortgage, nearly finished paying for the school fees and so on. Now then - how do I run in a diesel? What revs? For how long? etc. etc. It comes full of fuel (unknown brand - probably Tesco as it's nearest to the dealer), but after that I intend to use BP premier cru because you all tell me to.
  • MOT Diesel Emissions Test 13 Aug 2004 (Forum)
Does anybody know whether the test is still the same or whether there are any plans to change it given the infinitely cleaner running of the latest common rail, Pumpe Duse and paticulate trap equipped HDi/D4D motors? Seems a rather archaic test for Euro III and IV compliant modern diesels!
  • When is a Road Single / Dual Carriageway 11 Aug 2004 (Forum)
The road widens to three lanes as it goes uphill - two for uphill and one downhill with double white lines against the downhill carriageway. Whilst out and about on my advanced driving run I was asked the speed limit on the road and I replied that it was 60mph as it is a single carriageway. But, the observer informed that it was in fact 70mph as it was a dual-carriageway on the short section that we had the crawler lane.
  • Peugeot 405TD 1995 overheating 11 Aug 2004 (Forum)
The car ran for 4 hours (stationary) on Friday in the heat and as the temperature got close to 90 the fan cut in and brought it down.......everything fine and no overheating. I then took it for a run on Saturday and at speeds up to 60 mph everything was fine temp between 70 and 90 but then over this speed the temperature began to climb up to 105. Slowing down brought the temperature down slowly.
  • Peugeot 309GTI plug seized 30 Jul 2004 (Forum)
Yesterday the fluid was still there and the plug still wouldn't budge and the only thing they can suggest is to try after a hard run when the engine is very hot. Unfortunately, I am 5,000 miles away and don't know what the garage uses for releasing fluid. Anyone got any last resort suggestions?
  • Plastic bumper cleaners 24 Jun 2004 (Forum)
When I ran out recently I couldn't obtain any locally so bought Autoglyms Bumper Care as I've always been impressed with their range. However, after heavy rain last night my newly treated bumpers look terrible, with streaks and runs everywhere. What is the best product for black and dark grey bumpers?
  • Ulysse/C8/807 7 Jun 2004 (Forum)
Ever since Fifth gear did the crash test between new/old Espace's where the old one ended as a mess but new one just needed a t-cut I have fancied a NCAP 5 star car for the family. Would running a Ulysse for 5 years plus confirm my previous doubts about Fiat or could it be safe and reasonably cheap motoring? Ps New to the site, I have searched for previous similar questions but please excuse me if this is a commonly repeated one!
  • Golf GL tdi MK3 28 Apr 2004 (Forum)
Hello People, recently purchased a Golf GLTDI '96. Everything seems fine but I am a diesel newbie. Recently I left the engine running whilst the family was in the car and when I came back about ten minutes later I noticed the glow plug light flashing intermittently. I switched off and then started it up again and it seemed to stop after that, any ideas?
  • Nissan & Ford offers that special ? 20 Mar 2004 (Forum)
I might want to buy a Nissan Almera on which there's a special offer running till the end of March. However, I can only buy it next month or May at the earliest. Can I still get the same offer ? Is May a 'bad' month to buy ? Also, what do you reckon of the Fiesta and Focus ?
  • fiesta misfiring 17 Mar 2004 (Forum)
I have a 94 fiesta 1.3i which is only running on 3 cylinders at tick-over it is the cylinder furthest from the thermostat. I did a compression test and this was lower than the others. so I took the head off. The exhaust valve seats look worn so I'll sort them, but the question I have is - the engine has done 20,000 miles since a re-bore, is it normal to have the honing marks still visible in the cylinder bores. the reason i ask is that the cylinder with the lowest compression seams to have the worst marks. the car didn't seam to burn much oil and seamed to go o.k.
  • AI nr Berwick-Upon-Tweed 2 Mar 2004 (Forum)
Anyone know the AI well just north of Berwick-Upon-Tweed? Thinking in particular about where it runs close to the coast and village of Burnmouth. I've not driven this stretch for 10yrs plus and just can't remember it. Is the traffic heavy in July/Aug and does it dominate the locality? Thinking of a holiday property there but the A1, railway, village and coast all look squashed together in a very narrow area.
  • Flickering oil light Rover 414 15 Feb 2004 (Forum)
Rover 414 Sli 1990 'H' - just had the headgasket replaced for the 2nd time at 102K miles including skim, new oil, new cam belt and thermostat. Now 600 miles after the repair at 70 mph speed runs the oil light flickers on/off when I come to a stop or changing down in the gears - I can get it to go out at tickover by throtling up the tick over to about 950/1000rpm. Any ideas please as to what is the cause?
  • Tell us something we don't know! 23 Jan 2004 (Forum)
I'm sure it'll make all the difference when there are that many people who have decided to go underground with their motoring - I suppose it's cheaper for them in the long run. Hugo
  • 306 meridian fluctuating voltage 14 Jan 2004 (Forum)
I assumed this was the alternator voltage reg but a test at the battery sees 14.5v stable with the engine running. Switching on absolutely everything shows no fluctuation in voltage with it dropping a tad to around 14.3V. Therefore what I want to know is, is there another voltage regulator withing the car? Or am I missing something.
  • Battery Chargers 8 Jan 2004 (Forum)
Having just come out of hospital after 4 weeks I tried to start the car, battery flat.Nice man from RAC started it for me.I gave it a stationary run at variable revs for about 45mins,as I cannot drive the car due to shoulder op for a few weeks I have done this every other day now three times,so battery should be ok now.I have one of the older type battery chargers i.e.low & high charge its even has 6&12 volt option, could I still use old chargers on 5yr old car with to-days modern technology?
  • Drink driving crackdown? 2 Jan 2004 (Forum)
For various reasons that I won't go in to I was out and about on the roads of four counties at all hours for the last five days. In previous years I have run in to police road blocks (illegal but when did that stop them), enhanced car patrols, foot patrols breathylising those about to get in to cars etc, etc. This year... NOTHING. I only saw two police cars the whole time and those were in broad daylight cruising around the M25 doing the 'don't go faster that me' trick.
