Use of bus lane to pass an obstruction 6 Dec 2004 (Forum)
To date there has been no definitive answer given. Would you erstwhile folks care to comment? "I just got a fine through from Ealing Council for driving in a bus lane. Took me a while to figure out what that was for as I don't drive in bus lanes and get annoyed by people who do. After a while I remembered. The road in question is a very wide road, with the left hand side painted red in a bus lane stylee. -
Front end shunt: cheap repairs? 26 Nov 2004 (Forum)
* Plastic front fascia and number plate smashed in. As only one headlight would work, the police would not let me drive off. So I got Green Flag out, who effected running repairs: * Fitted new bulb in driver side headlight, so I have 2 lights working (no reflectors, though, so its pretty dim.) * Fastened down bonnet with a piece of rope/cable. -
Dangerous Driving Charge 13 Oct 2004 (Forum)
In the station he admitted to speeding and the police admitted he was going at the fastest point no mor than 90 mph but they have decided they are refering him to the CPS for charging as Dangerous Driving. This we are going to fight as he does not feel he was dangerous and does not want a criminal record for speeding. The police has said he will hear and face the magistrates in the next 6 to 8 weeks. -
Which? Reliability survey - Vol 2. 19 Aug 2004 (Forum)
I was fortunate enough or unfortunate enough to drive 3 off E Series TD MB from 1999 on. All from new. First dropped oil on my drive from new. It also had the habit of going into \"Safety Mode\" at odd times. This meant you had to drive home at 20 mph. -
Dream Car Anyone? 15 Jul 2004 (Forum)
What car do you all aspire to drive? Firstly, if money was no object and you could simply take your pick from whatever was out there, even if there are only two of them left in the world, and why? Secondly, more realistic aspirations eg what you hope your next car is going to be or what you may drive in a few years time. -
Fuel Consumption (again) 17 Apr 2004 (Forum)
So to summarise, with the help of some Millers, and a total change in driving style, I have achieved an extra 100 miles out my tank!! To be honest, I think the main difference has been the lack of the short, stop / start journeys. -
mad lorry driver 20 Nov 2003 (Forum)
Then for about a mile or two this lorry kept driving up to my bumper (must have been inches away, and no I'm not joking) and backing off, then driving up again. Almost like he was trying to force me off the road. Then he got really close again, starting swerving over the road and flashing his lights, luckily at this point the traffic was starting to clear and I managed to get some distance between us. -
Cruising Law 16 Aug 2003 (Forum)
Where a constable in uniform has reasonable grounds for believing that a motor vehicle is being used on any occasion in a manner which contravenes section 3 or 34 of the road traffic act 1988 (Careless and inconsiderate driving and prohibition of off-road driving) AND Is causing, or is likely to cause alarm, distress or annoyance to members of the public he/she has the power to:- Order the person to stop driving the vehicle (it is an offence not to do so when ordered by a police constable to stop) and to warn the driver that his/her behaviour constitutes and offence. -
One for the Traffic Police 23 Apr 2003 (Forum)
Although very sad, the reason seemed straight forward - but the motorway was still closed for 8 hours - why? 3. Whilst driving on M25 I was amazed at the amount of skid marks on the outside lane and the fact that the inside lane was hardly used. Far be it from me to start a war, but is part of the congestion problem down there the fact that there are a lot of people who don't actually know how to drive properly? -

The 3/8 drive socket also seems rather puny (ex Halfords best) Any feed back would be most gratefully recieved. Kind regards, Julian Lindley -
The adventure begins... 16 Nov 2002 (Forum)
And Andy, thanks for putting the seed there in the first place. Of course, we'll be living on beans until it's paid for (well, perhaps beans and chips) I'll drive it for a bit and then post a driving report in Technical. Just a quickie - what sort of MPG are people getting with their MINIs? 43mpg seems a bit optimistic... Lee. >>>The seed: Going Nuts? -
Yet again: 25 Sep 2002 (Forum)
She felt "bitter and angry" after Darren Verrall, 23, was fined at Sleaford Magistrates' Court after he pleaded guilty to careless driving, and driving without insurance or a licence. He was ordered to pay £175 compensation and £65 court costs. Mrs Abey accepted the fine was "all he could get" under existing sentencing laws. But she said: "It is not what we wanted but there's nothing the courts can do until the law is changed. -

Skoda Fabia 13 Jun 2001 (Forum)
The fuel consumption (in What's Bad) was given as 30.28 mpg. When I first got the car I was getting around 34 mpg in general driving (pottering about - I don't really do much town driving) but this has steadily improved. I measured it yesterday when I filled up and this has gone up to 44 mpg. Typically I've been getting 40/41 mpg lately. -
Used cars of the year 13 Oct 2019 (Forum)
Juddering clutched and the occasional blocked DPF on low use cars aside they’re pretty robust if a bit dull to drive. A far far better bet than a used BMW X3/X5 or similar at this money. Sub £4,000 Honda CRV 2.0 VTEC. As above but at this money the petrol is far safer is much slower and greedier. Best Convertible £8,000 Mazda MX5 Mk III A hoot to drive and painless to own, the only worry is rust which even the Mk III suffers from. -
Jaecoo 5 - My next choice? 1 Aug 2025 (Forum)
Like the lines and the squared off shape. If the headroom/seating position is good, I think I'll ask for a decent extended test drive. https://www.motor1.com/news/738091/jaecoo-5-2025-information-details/#prezzi Maybe ??? -

BMW Mini - The end of the road for the manual gearbox 23 Sep 2023 (Forum)
With news that the new mini will only be available in auto format does this herald the end of the road for the manual gearbox ? A latecomer to auto driving, I’ve taken to it 100% maybe down to having one coupled to a V6 diesel engine which gives effortless performance. -

Ev world record 7 Aug 2023 (Forum)
For those concerned about driving an EV on a slightly moist day, here in the UK. Check out this clip. https://youtu.be/ua_2-ZWPeVo Now I know you lot are concerned about limited range, and to be fair this record is only 7km, but it is under the sea, 30metres under the sea.
