    Although the wholesale cost of oil stayed roughly the same throughout the month, averaging at $49.89, it recorded a low of $46.93 early on and a high of $53.54 nearing the end of the month. The price drop was also spurred on by the currently stable sterling, which is important because fuel is traded in dollars.

  • Restored Volkswagen Beetle Cabriolet to be auctioned at CarFest South 23 Jun 2015 (News)
    A restored 1977 Volkswagen 1303 Karmann Cabriolet is just one of the lots going under the hammer at Chris Evans’ CarFest over the August Bank Holiday weekend. The Beetle, which was originally imported into the UK from Georgia, USA, in 1977, is estimated to sell for between £13,000 and £15,000 at CCA’s CarFest South auction on Saturday, 29 August. As well as the Volkswagen, there’s also a 1998 BMW Z3M Roadster for sale, with an estimate of between £12,000 and £15,000.

    The patent drawings, revealed by China Car News are certainly striking, and there is absolutely no mistaking what car Jiangling is hoping to emulate withe the new E32. But for budget conscious Chinese motorists, the E32 will have one very important quality in its favour - it's expected to be priced at around £11,500 locally. According to the website, the new car will be powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine developing around 190PS and 250nm, mated to a six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic.

    Volkswagen says that it is one of the most travelled and loved automobiles in the world, and who are we to argue? The Kombi was designed by Volkswagen's Dutch importer, Ben Pon, in 1947, who envisioned a vehicle that can play multiple roles. And two years later, it went into production - only to fade away for good at the end of 2013. That's an impressive production run, all told.

  • New ‘fuel saving’ catalytic converter developed 28 Jan 2014 (News)
    “The new catalytic converter is still undergoing long mileage tests, but we hope to have it finished and running on a car within 18 months,” said Dr Benjamin Kingsbury. “Catalytic converters are the most important component in a vehicle for controlling exhaust emissions," he added. "Yet their design has not changed since they were first developed in the 1940s. The prototype I have developed could make cars cheaper to run and already a number of exhaust builders and car manufacturers are showing interest.”

  • One-off Ferrari 250 to star at Bonhams' Quail Lodge sale 10 May 2013 (News)
    The one-off Ferrari 250 Europa Coupé Vignale was first shown in 1953 and was sold to American importer Liugi Chinetti. Upon seeing the 250, Chinetti immediately made it the centrepiece of the Ferrari display at the January 1954 New York Auto Show at Madison Square Garden. This unique coachbuilt sports car, is interesting for being one of the very first Ferrari's legendary 250 model range.
