  • Shortage of Right Cars Pushes Auction Prices Up 1 Dec 2006 (News)
But prices being paid the first day of December certainly aren’t. The closest to a ‘cheap’ car I saw today was the 103k mile 2004/54 BMW 120dSE un the photo. Top bid for that was £8,300 provisional. Almost everything else made a lot of money. And one fleet was so confident of rising prices in January, it reserved its cars so high its sale was virtually boycotted.

  • A Grand Monday: Yugo 45a Tempo 9 Apr 2018 (News)
This example is a last-of-the-line 45a Tempo , introduced in 1991 as an absolute base model to sell alongside the new (and ultimately doomed) Yugo Sana. At £2,999 on-the-road, it was the UK's cheapest car. Powered by Fiat's stalwart chain-driven 903cc engine, it's simplicity itself to maintain and renowned for it ability to keep on going. And for a budget car, that's what many people wanted. Alas, the Tempo died in 1992 when civil war broke out in the former Yugoslavia and the Zastava production lines ground to a halt, making this very late car an incredibly rare survivor, and a seemingly very tidy one at that.  So, what price exclusivity?

  • Diesel scrappage scheme could be launched 'within months' 8 Feb 2017 (News)
A scrappage scheme for diesel cars could be introduced within months to lower emissions and improve air quality - a move that threatens to take thousands of future classics off the road. The move would see drivers given cash for trading in their diesels, similar to the Government-backed scheme that revived flagging new car sales in 2009 after the credit crunch.

  • A Grand Monday: Low-mileage Metro, £999 8 Feb 2016 (News)
All of which makes this particular car an attractive proposition. There’s suddenly quite a following for Metros, with the earliest examples selling for upwards of £3000-£4000 in excellent condition. The later, Rover-badged cars are less collectable but are, by contrast, much better cars to drive.
  • Rolling Stones’ Bentley sells for £750,000 at Bonhams' Revival auction 14 Sep 2015 (News)
Richards bought the Bentley, which was one of a limited edition of 87, from HR Owen in London in 1965. He nicknamed the car Blue Lena after the legendary jazz musician Lena Horne. It was apparently later modified at his request to have a secret compartment fitted where he and the band could hide their drugs. Among other hedonistic road trips, Blue Lena is the car that was driven to Marrakech by Richards and Anita Pallenberg in 1967 prior to Richards’ court appearance for possession of drugs.
