  • Renault Clio - Faulty vehicle 8 Oct 2023 (Forum)
New service and MOT 2 months old. After a couple of weeks a horrible grinding noise was coming from the engine, along with a brake issue. I returned it to the garage and they diagnosed a faulty gearbox and warped brake discs. I had only done 150 miles in that time. They claimed on the warranty for the gearbox and replaced with a reconditioned one.
  • Any SI engine you fancy doing it to - Cleaning Spark Plugs 8 Jul 2023 (Forum)
Attempting to revive the art, I used a hypodermic syringe with a long wide blunt needle (sold at Daiso makeup section for unknown and probably scary purpose) to fill the plug nose with coffee-filtered old brake fluid, plugs stood nose up in a plastic beaker. Periodically skoosh some more in, re-using the overflow from the bottom of the beaker.  The brake fluid gets VERY black. You could use a conventional hypodermic for this, its sharp tip would make a better pick, and you could probably generate more pressure (screw-on needle only) as I do for carb cleaning, BUT if you tried recycling the fluid your needle would probably block.

  • Peugeot 308 - Peugeot 308 - good buy second hand or a money pit? 24 Feb 2020 (Forum)
There have been a number recalls for the Peugeot 308, including problems with the brakes, headlights and electrics. A franchised dealer should be able to tell you if the work has been carried out. The sunday times review states http://www.driving.co.uk/car-reviews/peugeot-308-mk1-review-2007-2013/ The 308 has been recalled 17 times (at last count) since its launch in late 2007, for electrical glitches, numerous brake faults, fuel leaks, a potential loss of power steering and even a collapsing driver’s seat; most recent recalls have been for problems with steering, shock absorbers, faulty rear windscreen seals and fuel leaks which could lead to an engine fire.

  • Citroen Picasso and other Models - Citroen Engine Fault Light Problem some solutions 21 Aug 2019 (Forum)
I disconnected the battery and then removed the main connectors from the ECU / EMU (Engine Control Unit). Someone had spilled brake fluid into the central socket and it was obviously changing the electrical signal volvages. It took two goes to clean it out, no problem since. This may not apply to many, but when you get TFLCO it's worth checking for brake / power steering fluid in all the connectors and sensors on the engine block near the fluid containers.

  • 09 Jaguar XF - Rear Disc replacemnts 24 Nov 2016 (Forum)
