Filling Up in France 12 Oct 2005 (Forum)
Returned last week from holiday in France where we found it becoming difficult to access supermarket fuel. Around Gex (Ain) neither Carrefour nor Intermarche any longer have a cashier. All pumps are card only 24/7. No doubt the same in other areas, particularly away from the main tourist centres. My Abbey debit card certainly would not work in either place; did not try other cards. -
VW Golf - Diagnostic test in NW London? 9 Aug 2005 (Forum)
The car runs quite smooth with the choke pulled out, but is very juddery and tends to misfire when the choke is in. Also, when I changed the spark plugs the haynes manual seemed to say I had an over rich fuel mixture. I woouldn't fancy trying adjusting it as a DIY thing because there could be so many other things wrong. It sounds a bit tappety as well. Also how much would I expect to pay? does it cost a lot extra if they have to start making adjustments to the carb etc?? -
Equipment for driving in Europe 8 Jun 2005 (Forum)
In Spain you have to carry a spare pair of glasses, if you need glasses for driving. 2. In Germany you are required to carry spare fuel on the autobahns, but you aren't allowed to take it in to Europe in the Tunnel. 3. Spare bulbs, even if you can't fit them without a vist to a garage (Audi among others) 4. Fluorescent jackets, pssibly one for each occupant of the car. 5. -
A good Ford dealer story 3 Jun 2005 (Forum)
The bill arrived today, total £65.75, including £28 + VAT for the part. No request for money for loan of Fiesta, just 'Please leave the fuel gauge as you found it'. Excellent service. -
Hire Car Specefication 25 May 2005 (Forum)
Seperate temp control for driver and paseenger on what seemed to be full climate control, traction control, comfortable autobahn cruising at 100 mph for a lot of the trip, rural roads for the rest and 13 litres of fuel for 190 km. Very hard suspension but a real bargain for the day. I am asking if it is normal for hire firms to offer such well specced cars? For my 51 euros I was offered a Primera, a new Golf auto and the TDi which I actually took. -
Mk3 Golf 1.6 aft eng 80k hesitates accel 28 Apr 2005 (Forum)
Happens more when under load, but anything in rev range from 1.5k to 4.5k. To try to cure prob. I have replaced ht leads, dizzy cap, rotor arm, sparks, air filter fuel filter - even pollen filter (may as well !). But to no avail. Still hesitates just as bad. Any suggestions as to what could be causing this ? I have also used redex petrol & injector treatments too - still no change. -
SuperChips - Have you used or heard of? 28 Apr 2005 (Forum)
Has anyone used or heard of the company called SuperChips? Basically what they do is re-program your ECU to improve performance etc. NB: I have a dual fuel Vectra which simply doesn't run quite as smoothly when running on LPG compared to petrol (new plugs and leads helped a bit but didn't completely resolve the problems), I'm thinking of trying these guys to iron out the problem further. -
diesel petrol mpg 10 Apr 2005 (Forum)
mmm, makes me think, i was basing my calcs on 81.9 ppl for diesel a year and 4 months ago. which was 81.9 so 4000 miles in a diesel doing 50mpg was only costing £295.00. so in a year its costing me an extra £25 a month for fuel. (well not me, my company.) also over a year this is £2280. if you can buy a petrol for £2K cheaper than a diesel, whats the point ?????????????????????????? and many people dont do 45K miles a year. -
What's Your Favourite Vehicle Noise? 29 Mar 2005 (Forum)
A prototype of the motorbike, which could cost more than $8,300 (£4,500), was unveiled in London on Tuesday. The problem with the "fuel cell" bike, which produces no polluting emissions, is that it is too quiet. But anti-noise campaigners said they welcomed the prospect of a motorbike without the usual excruciating roar. For their part, manufacturers said the fake engine noise device, which could be switched off, would help alert road users. ' I'd go for a reproduction of my old Triumph T90 quite an exciting noise on it's siamesd exhaust. -- I wasna fu but just had plenty. -
smoking at petrol station 20 Mar 2005 (Forum)
This morning I filled up with fuel and as I drove away from the pump noticed three gangsta type men standing within spitting distance of the pumps smoking. I stopped, lowered the window and suggested to them that perhaps it wasn't a clever thing to do. -
Volvo S60 2.0 - Your thoughts? 20 Dec 2004 (Forum)
Can anyone who owns/drives or has any other knowledge of the S60 give me some input as to what to expect. I'm especially interested in service and parts costs as well as fuel consumption etc. I've read HJ's thoughts but there are no 'bad' points listed. The only things a trawl on the net have brought up is central locking and climate control problems. Any input positive or negative welcomed. -
CB250 Motorbike 13 Nov 2004 (Forum)
Please share any thoughts about the above, as I really am considering purchasing this great bike. Also, what fuel economy should I expect from one? Many thanks in advance. -
ford mondeo 1.8td (1995) 25 Oct 2004 (Forum)
I found it to be the top of the stop solenoid that was leaking so I replaced the stop solenoid. Since then the engine will not start. It just constantly turns over without firing. It has got fuel in it and I know for sure the stop solenoid is working. I have tried testing it withou the plunger in the stop solenoid as well just to be certain. The pump itself was not disturbed, nor was anything else for that matter. -
1995 Vauxhall Omega 3.0L V6 Auto 4 Oct 2004 (Forum)
This car is 9 years old so I wouldn't expect it to be mechanically tip top, but I don't want it to be on the verge of blowing up either. The funny thing is he's selling it because he wasn't happy with his Honda Accord Type R's fuel consumption, so he bought the Omega instead, and is selling it one month later after finding out it's worse. Not suprising. T.I.A AdyBeee.. -
Good car, bad car? 4 Aug 2004 (Forum)
Likewise the 'customer support' from manufacturers, is it all good? I personally have had an argument with Ford for nearly five months over a broken fuel pipe on my Fiesta 1.4TDCI which took them ten weeks to repair. I don't blame the car, things do go wrong, it's the dealers and the manufacturer that are crap. Has anybody else had a long term problem with repairs? -
Big cars - why would you need one? 3 Jun 2004 (Forum)
Quite nice, but made me think 'Why would anyone want a car this big?' Cars like the A8, 7 series, S-class, etc use loads of fuel and are unwieldy. One-up, it's like sitting in an empty concert hall; hardly involving. More rear leg room? Who for, and do they really need it? OK for top execs being chauffeur-driven maybe. Big boot? -
BMW (Pre-facelift or Post-facelift ) 30 Apr 2004 (Forum)
He asked me if there is any difference between the facelifts in terms of 1) interior equipment and decorations 2) performance 3) fuel economy 4) gearbox & suspension I really don't know what is the difference, if any, as my only drive was a 1996 520iSE, which was good but could do with a little more power. Thanks, Gazza -
Transit connect TDCI problems 2 Mar 2004 (Forum)
The fault is intermitent yellow glow plug light and then lack of power as it goes in limp mode. Ford have changed the fuel pump, put 2 lots of injectors in, new ecu and reprogrammed the keys twice, still no luck. I know there is a lot of problems with the mondeo tdci engine but has anybody on here had problems with the van tdci. -
Disputed MOT 16 Nov 2003 (Forum)
My Galaxy failed its MOT yesterday at the local Ford main dealer ("significant braking effort recorded on all 4 road wheels even though brakes are not applied") - which I thought was a load of bull as I'd have noticed it in everyday use, plus the computer would have shown increasing fuel consumption. I tested it on an incline and it freewheeled as normal. I had it tested at another garage today and it passed with flying colours (plus it only cost £35 against the Ford dealer's £40.75 - isn't it a standard fee??). -
Escort lacked power then stopping 3 Nov 2003 (Forum)
When I arrived after 1/2 hr it started and ran ok for the rest of the journey. The return trip was ok aswell. At first I expected fuel starvation, it does not have an inline filter, but as it started ok and runs ok since I have discounted this. Could it be the ignition coil? Is this a warning that something is on its way out? As you may expect, we now have no confidence in say overtacking just in case the same happens again.
