My parents\' car II 25 Sep 2003 (Forum)
I posted a week or so ago in an effort to elicit some advice about what kind of car my parents could replace their diesel Passat with. Having spent some time talking to them at the weekend, it\'s time for a change of tack. What they need most of all is a car which is easy to drive, easy to see out of, easy to maneouvre (especially reversing), and easy to get in and out of.They\'re not decrepit old dears, but like anyone else in the 65-70 age bad time has taken its toll. -
Mondeo Cutting out 2 Oct 2002 (Forum)
My mate has a 94 L Mondeo 1.8 LX Auto, has done 90,000 miles, was regularly serviced at a main dealers by the elderly bloke who owned it for 8 years, my mate bought it and let it go about 5,000 - 6,000 miles past it's due service, before having a major service at the Ford dealers today (Yeah, I know he's an idiot to ruin a perfect history on an 8 year old car but there you go...). Over the past week or two (before the service) the car tends to cut out at low revs when stationary, as far as I know this happens in Neutral or Drive/Reverse. When the engine is started, the revs will go up to about 1100 and then over a period of about 2 - 3 seconds steadily die until the car cuts out. -
Fiat Panda 1.1 Review - "slower than a cockroach" 18 May 2010 (Forum)
Anyway, she seems to be right because comparing the speed over the ground - and in particular away from a standing start, the giant oriental cockroach can move it`s own body length in a fraction of a second, where the Panda cannot. (It`s a slug away from lights compared with the old `torque by cylinder capacity under 1,000 revs` 1.9D.) It`s reported to be "great on ice and snow" and first experience of a car with ABS was very positive. The high driving position is liked, along with light controls and a heater that is hotter than the one in the old, 1.9D Punto - which it replaced. -
Vauxhall Zafira Tourer - Zafira tourer information. 30 Jan 2024 (Forum)
I tend to buy a car and run it till it dies (around 13 years old ) and now is the time for a newer car, the last two cars model a zafira which not being a fan it was reliable and a xsara picasso which I got cheap but have never been happy with ,with regards reliability so much so that it's time for a newer car. -
BMW 5 Series - Buying Approved Used BMW without seeing it first? 19 Jun 2023 (Forum)
I live in the south Englang and have found an approved used 5 series touring in Scotland that has the features (adaptive cruise control and heads up display) I am looking for and is at a good price. The car is just about 20 months old and has done about 20K miles from new. I first wanted to fly to Scotland and see the car, complete the purchase the same day if all looks good and then drive back in it. -

Ford Focus II (2004 - 2007) - is my warranty valid if my car missed a service? 10 Aug 2008 (Forum)
Two weeks ago i bought a 55 plate 1.6 tdci ford focus that had covered 29,000 miles, from a small independent dealer who told me the car is under ford warranty until november, when the car is three years old. I booked the car into my local ford rapid fit centre for a major service a week after buying it, i was told by the by them that doing this will keep my warranty evven though the car is missing a stamp in its service history. -
Insurance for 2nd car while selling? 1 Oct 2005 (Forum)
Don't know if anyone has had experience of this, I am guessing it is not an uncommon situation. I have just bought a car privately and so am going to be selling my old one (the VW Polo, once I get the central locking problem fixed!). I have switched my main insurance policy to the new car as that's the one I'll be driving. -
Car Mag Selections of Group Test Cars 3 Mar 2005 (Forum)
It is just like their concentration on using a disproportionate ammount of pages on £100,000+ cars that sell in tiny tiny numbers............ Maybe I am just turning into a grumpy old man........:0) -
Which bit is the real 'car' ? 13 Sep 2001 (Forum)
In the world of classic cars it is quite common to come across the statement that a car has been 'rebodied'. New bodyshells are available for Minis, MGB's, for example, and new chassis have long been available for Land-Rovers. -
Seat Ibiza FR 1.0 (115) TSI - 3 Years and 46000 miles On 4 Nov 2023 (Forum)
Link to the drum type: https://www.autopartspro.co.uk/abs-16439406 Sorry for the long post. Just wanted to give an update, now that my car is 3 years old and has done some mileage. A review when the car is brand new doesn’t tell you anything about long term ownership. -
Vauxhall Corsa D (2006 - ) - 07 1.4 Head Gasket/Water Coolant/Engine failure 18 Dec 2010 (Forum)
I'm not silly and no that they are going to get out of this as it looks as though its going to be a big job and they may have to replace the engine. I'm so annoyed as the car is so young and the recovery guy said this normally happens on cars 10 years old. I've had problem after problem with this car since i've had it and this could end up costing me a fortune (2K plus), do you think i have a case to take this futher? -
Nearly new car running very badly 12 May 2005 (Forum)
I have a 2001 Citroen Xsara 1.4, which I understand uses the PSA 1.4TU engine. From about 6 weeks old, the car would run a bit 'rough' when started whilst warm, and fine when started cold. Dealer couldn't find any problem even after a few visits, so I took it to another dealer who were more helpful. -
Mazda CX-30 - Battery problems 22 May 2023 (Forum)
I have been having battery problems for some time now. When the car was only 6 months old, it was in an accident and spent seven weeks being repaired. The damage was rear end only. When I got it back, I started getting starting problems where one day it was fine and the next day it was pretty much dead and I had to get recovery out to start it. -
Honda Jazz/Fit (2001 - 2008) - 03 1.4 Gearbox Bearings and G/box oil changes. 8 Nov 2013 (Forum)
Would it be cheaper to buy a reconditioned gearbox instead?" L.W., via email · "This is fairly common on older Jazz models. Honda helps if the car is less than five years old but won't contribute if it isn't. Get competitive quotes from specialist transmission repairers." My four-and-a-half years old Jazz has done 37K miles and from new I have endeavoured to do all the things which HJ recommends so as to ensure long reliable life from this car. -

Pug 406 - Replacing the stereo... 29 Dec 2004 (Forum)
Sounds fine, looks good, CD multichanger in the boot, tape & radio in the front. But, I've always had a minidisc player in the Clio, and have about 60 mds prepared ready for the car, as opposed to having 0 tapes (or a tape deck on which to produce them, even if i could deal with the quality issues), and I wouldn't feel overly comfortable leaving lots of CDs original CDs (quick test, it doesn't like to play CD-Rs, at least not those I produced on my laptop last night) in the car (as (a) wouldn't be able to play them in the house (b) would worry about theft). -
Insurance - So damned expensive! 10 Jun 2004 (Forum)
I'm not going to name any names obviously but for my first year of owning my own car and thus being insured on it was a round about £2000 for Third Party Only. Crazy I know but it has to be paid. Second year starts at the end of this month so with 1 years no claims under my belt, you'd expect a signicant drop. -
Ford Focus - Rejection of car 23 Apr 2012 (Forum)
When we went to collect the car withourt prejudice the dealership said to leave the car with them and they would attempt to dry it out as they woud have to do this any way they are putting the car in the spray oven with the windows down!!!!!. -
BMW and all. - Hydraulic Steering / Buying a Real Car 16 Apr 2024 (Forum)
"Ultimate driving experience" ? Nope, that wasn't it. It was slow, lethargic, docile. If a car could have a labotomy it would describe this car perfectly. The car was generally unresponsive and dull. If Matchbox ever made a real car, I imagine it would feel like this. I have a budget of around £12k and I'd like to buy a car that offers a genuine driving experience.
