  • VAG TDI engine computers 28 Feb 2003 (Forum)
Apologies if covered elsewhere. The CBCB says that the ECU in the 110 bhp TDI engine tend to fail. What it doesn't say is what age of car is affected. Is my 00W Octavia safe? thanks Mare
  • Xantia ABS 11 Apr 2001 (Forum)
Has anyone direct experience of ABS failure on a Xantia, i.e. the warning lamp staying on. It is said that the ECU will be faulty on the earlier cars but I would like to hear exactly what failed on yours. Many thanks, David Woollard
  • Vauxhall Astra - Misfire 30 Jul 2019 (Forum)
It seems to have got worse when it is a hot day. Plugs and coil pack seem ok, could this be a faulty ECU?
  • Vauxhall software updates? 27 Jan 2006 (Forum)
I have a 54 Vectra Estate 1.9 CDTi 150. Are there any updates available for the software controlling the indicators or the ECU? I heard Vauxhall have updated it for the 55 year models, but is it available for the 54's?

Ive looked on Renaults website and all the engine tech. specs. seem to be the same .... is the difference purely the ecu? Chris
  • Ford Focus Zetec - ECU failure not covered by warranty 21 Mar 2018 (Forum)
It was taken to Liss Garage Services, who have been servicing and repairing our family’s vehicles for many years.  Stewart Roberts, the proprietor, suspected a problem with either the ECU or a fuel injector, but told me that the engine was so badly damaged that it would need replacing, which he did at a cost of over £3,000. On testing the car following this, the replacement engine failed and a third engine was installed.

  • Peugeot 607 (2000 - ) - (2000-) 2.2 HDi, unable to clear ecu fault codes 21 Mar 2016 (Forum)
I took the turbo off and decoked it, put it all back together but the car went back into perminent limp mode so took it in to have the ECU cleared down again. Now the garage can't clear the errors and I am getting a headache, they have given me a list though! I have got P1447 - differential sensor pressure too high P1429 - differential pressure signal low (is there a right way around for the two pressure pipes on the fap or should this not matter?)
  • Peugeot 307CC - Water in the wiring? 29 Oct 2011 (Forum)
The dealership wanted us to have a wiring loom replaced as well as the sensor as water may have got into the loom and could get as far as the ECU. Before authorising the repair (£585 including the loom with a parts cost of £270+vat for the loom) we went to the workshop to inspect the bits. Sure enough the sensor was wet but the loom was dry.
  • Ford Focus LX 1.6 TDCI MKII (07) - injector replacement recoding 6 May 2011 (Forum)
My car is developing a rattle sound again and think its down the injectors and the ecu not being reprogrammed as I would think the engine management would just not be able to work correctly without doing so. Bringing the car back to mechanics today and looking for some advice or opinions.
  • Reanualt Clio 2 - Clio 2 2004 1.2 16v - Rough Running 15 Sep 2010 (Forum)
Cleaned 3 relays behind headlight and all this made no difference at all :( . Started thinking Lambda, ECU, Crank Sensor, Loom , you know all those lovely things Renault would charge an arm and a leg for but stopped and went right back to basics, car starts fine with no engine light on, runs like a lumpy pig so going back the days before ECU's and Laptops I would have said H.T lead or maybe coil so checked out a part number with Europarts as the coil pack and leads are one unit and priced at £28.00 thought its worth a go before we get into Diagnostics mumbo jumbo where you pay and don't always get the correct answer !
  • Ford Mondeo II (1996 - 2000) - 00 1.8 Engine cut out - no spark ! 10 Dec 2009 (Forum)
So it looks like it isn?t getting a signal from the ECU. I have checked the continuity back to the ECU connector and that?s ok for both the outer cables I have now drawn a blank. What do I check / do next?
  • Cost of spare parts - how long will the scam last? 23 Dec 2008 (Forum)
A 500gb hard drive now costs £40, these are quite complicated, a motherboard costs £40 and is very complex compared to an ECU which is actually a very unpowered simple computer running a fairly simple computer prgram (compared to what we use on our PCs). So how can they charge £1k for an ECU? £300 for a TPS etc? I understand cats are expensive because they require a lot of metal and a lot of engineering is involved in the manufacturer but I get mad when people are forced to pay £100's for a very simple part on a fairly modern car
  • Renault Safrane (1992 - 2000) - 1995 2.2vi overfuelling/rough running on start 10 Nov 2008 (Forum)
If you switch off and try again it may start perfectly OK, but more often the revs slowly creep up to 1000 to 1200 and the rough running gradually smooths as the revs increase over a period of about 4/5 minutes. I have fitted a new idle valve and coolant sensor and checked the ECU connections, but no improvement. There are a couple of connector blocks under the ECU and I am thinking about soldering the connections in these, just in case. One of these is for the injectors.
  • Tuning Diesel Methods (How ?)& Insurance 31 Aug 2006 (Forum)
On average what is the approx increase in premium - will all Ins. co's cover a "chipped" diesel - how do they work out the increased premium - from an engineers report on the BHP increase ? (B) What methods are used by the chipping Co's. I see some remap the existing ECU memory , others use an exra ECU, I presume this interecepts the engine management signal and modifies it somewhat. I know some power/torque increass are by increasing Turbo-Boost at lower revs One Co. advertises "Upgrade does not increase turbo-boost, therefore no extra load on mechnaical components".
  • Audi A4 - Multi-tronics gear box issues 9 Jun 2020 (Forum)
I have a  2018 plate 1.4 TFSI black edition s tronic and have been advised by my dealer that because I did not change the gear oil at the correct time/miles has caused a fault meaning a new main control gear box unit ECU is required (not covered under warranty due to me not changing the oil at the correct time doh  and at a 2k cost). I have now been advised that the dealer requires a further £5800 for replacing all oil control valves because the main new £2000 ECU fitted will not calibrate with the gear oil valves.
  • Corsa Combo 2002 1.7 td (isuzu) - Vx combo,dashlights out,no start 10 Aug 2019 (Forum)
Ive got a poblem with my dash electrics, having no "spanner" light,no EmL  no glowplug light  and nothing in the little mileage window/display.They were working until I remove the ecu atop the engine to gain access underneath.Does anyone know if the ecu needs resetting after unplugging?Link error on both my scan tools so obd may not be getting power,I havent tested there yet.Vehicle is/was non starter,I swapped the EDU for a known working unit which I believe are plug and play, ,having spotted bad joints inside the old unit.re tried the old unit again to see if display lights come back on but no luck, somethings gone amiss since.Checked all the fuses and relays under the bonnet,is there a common fuse for these dashlights all to be out inside the car possibly?
