  • Mondeo 24v 1998 idle problem 16 Sep 2005 (Forum)
When coming to a stop in traffic the rpm goes right down to 500 rpm and it feels like it's just about to stall, goes very lumpy then settles at about 600 rpm, which seems a bit low to me but I can't remember what it was beforehand. No other running problems when driving along, It's fine. Car is only used on short journeys which doesn't really help it. Can anyone help? thanks...
  • Citroen Picasso HDI X reg - digital dash 15 Sep 2005 (Forum)
Can you assist me in finding a new right hand dash display unit (the one which indicates Satnav and computer information)? The display on my Picasso has poor brightness and when the car has been running for 15 minutes, dims to an unreadable level. My local Citroen dealer quoted £1000 plus to change the dash after previously telling me that the light bulbs need changing. I had already changed the bulbs myself a year ago to no avail.
  • Not taking the easy option.... 11 Sep 2005 (Forum)
If the garage had been negligent then his insurance company would have got their money back and he'd have his bonus back. Silly wotsit is now in debt and the garage is suing him for the 8k in legal fees that they have run up defending the case over the last 2 years. The only question I have is why make such a fuss over it?! teabelly
  • Focus Sooty Tailpipe 31 Aug 2005 (Forum)
Please would anyone out there, comment whether there is a minor problem with my 2003 Focus 1.6. ? Even after a long run the exhaust tailpipe shows a very black appearence inside, and on certain occasions when pull away the engine can \'pink\' slightly. The performance is reasonable (In line with HJ\'s Car by Car-description) and the car produces 36 mpg.
  • is it an air lock? Cavalier 1.7td (1993) 26 Aug 2005 (Forum)
going down the motorway yesterday i noticed the the engine is not getting up to its normal operating temp as it used to(100 degrees before fan kicked in) i thought it might be air in the system but im not sure. also i have found out that the passsenger and drivers footwells are realy hot that also never happened before and neither did the fact that the ignition key get hot after a long run the heater fan isnt on so i cant imagine what could be wrong. any info on this is ,as always, much apprecated
  • 99T Mondeo 2.5 V6 pinking 19 Aug 2005 (Forum)
I've had a look through some of the previous listings, but there does not appear to be a conclusive answer. Same symptoms as other listings, pinking under load under 3K. I've run a can of PowerBoost through it, which seemed to work, but it re-appeared again a few days later. I've disconnected the battery to clear the ECU memory. I am not going to waste my money taking it to a Ford dealer.

  • Dings and things! 30 Jun 2005 (Forum)
Came back from a run to the coast yesterday and therefore had parked my car in several car parks. However I found that someone had left a 'ding' in my nearside rear wheel arch about 2" above the flared bit and just behind the plastic arch protector.
  • bora sidelights 30 Jun 2005 (Forum)
Had a strange problem in the Bora last night (2001 PD100 model) The sidelights would not switch off. I was running on dipped beam (it was raining) and when I parked and switched the lights off, the warning bleeper sounded when i opened the door. When I got out of the car I saw that the sidelights were on. Eventually I had to remove the fuse.
  • Old age Air-con lifespan 24 Jun 2005 (Forum)
I am fairly certain the air-con in my seven year old Mondeo has never been repaired/regassed at all since new, yet it still seems to working fairly effectively if not 100%. I rarely use it winter except to speed up screen de-misting, so it is not as if I have it running regularly outside of the June-August decent weather period....anyone have an older car than mine with air-con that has not needed any work? (Of course I realise it will not work tomorrow having said the above!)
  • Volvo 340 electrics 18 Jun 2005 (Forum)
A while back the heater fan motor packed up, it was running Ok on high speed and just stopped, all I get is a click from a relay somewhere under the dash when it's switched to the high position. Yesterday the engine overheated in traffic as the cooling fan failed to work.
  • Decent Service and MOT for Toyota 1999 m 11 Jun 2005 (Forum)
I know going to the delear can be quite expensive. And what would be the approximate expenditure,. The car runs perfectly fine, n no problems at all. Many thanks.
  • another Citroen ZX problem 9 May 2005 (Forum)
hi, can anyone suggest a possible reason for the following problem with a 1.9 Diesel ZX..... Car runs OK at town driving speeds. Put it on a motorway and sometimes after a while it starts blowing out clouds of white smoke and continues to accelerate. Pull over and leave it for a few minutes and it drives normally again for a while.
  • 1995 Ford TD Factory immobiliser/central 26 Apr 2005 (Forum)
Problem with the immobiliser/central locking fitted to my 1995 Escort TD. Whilst welding on a sill, I fried the electrics that lead to the NSR door, wires run up the 'B' piller and into rear door. The electrics power the central locking fitted to that door. I have replaced all the wires with a same age car with parts from the scrappies. Now the central locking does not work, nor does the tailgate release and the immobiliser light on the dash no longer flashes like before.
  • Rover 416 Auto Petrol Consumption 28 Feb 2005 (Forum)
Have just bought a P reg car with the Honda engine. 64000 miles, burns no oil, no rattles or knocking noises, starts well. On a daily run of 10 miles each way on 'A' roads, max speed about 50mph & mostly about 45mph it returns 30mpg. This is being driven very carefully, no hard accelerations. Power seems quite a bit less than our previous Rover engined 1.6 manual.
  • Decisions, Decisions! 28 Feb 2005 (Forum)
Both would suit. Your thoughts appreciated about which would be the better buy. (Thinking about residuals, running costs, etc) Both are from non-franchised dealers. 1. 2003 03 BMW 318SE Touring. 42000m, FBMWSH, £13799 2. 2003 53 Audi A3 (new shape) 1.6 Sport, 19500m, FASH, £13995 I could put up with the two doors in the Audi and both still have over a years warranty left.
  • new car 20 Feb 2005 (Forum)
I'm about to change company cars and have seen Mondeo Ghia X hatchbacks(2.0 tdci - 6 speed) at motorpoint for under 16k. looks a nice car and very comfortable. Anyone got one and can give me an idea of running costs for service etc I'd be grateful. I've had two mercs and a saab and you might as well pin £20 notes to your clothes and let them pluvk them off as you walk into the dealer. Cheers Dominic
  • Renault Megane engine query 4 Feb 2005 (Forum)
So which is correct and how can I confirm it? I am a bit concerned because it's insured as a 100 but if it's an 80 am I running a risk?
  • Honda Legend LPG conversion 31 Jan 2005 (Forum)
I have spoken to Powershift who say the car is not eligable for a grant (car is over 5 years old) and been on the website www.greenfuel.org.uk who quote £1,870 for the conversion with a projected saving of £1,126.88 per annum based on an annual mileage of 12,000. Firstly, has anyone any experience of running a LPG converted Legend who can vouch for the accuracy of the savings? Secondly, is ther room for discounts on the quoted price for the conversion? No concessions on congestion charging, etc affect me.
  • Peugeot 306 brakes 20 Jan 2005 (Forum)
Anyway when the engine is off the brakes are pretty much solid as you ould expect but as soon as the engine is running the brake pedal travels almost to the floor. I have bled it several times using a pressurised kit and theres definatley no leaks or air in the system. Is it possible the master cylinder needs to be the same as the gti6 master cylinder to displace more fluid or something?
