Thoughts on this 80mph idea? 1 Jun 2011 (Forum)
Right now they give you a generous buffer in all honesty, if it moved up to 80 that buffer would have to come to a shuddering close, as it shouldnt then mean its ok to drive at 95, i feel room for error should be much slimmer as people claim they drive at 80 to help with congestion and that the legal limit being 80 would be a good thing, according to a story on Honest John.co.uk today, so there would be no excuse for suddenly going even faster. -
Talk me out of buying an X-Type... 21 Oct 2005 (Forum)
Audi A4 2.0L FSI Sport: Again barren and boring inside, and simply pathetic drive even the 2L Disel Jaguar is a more exciting drive than this POS. A bit cramped inside, no quality finish and SO DULL. Audi A6: Too expensive anyway, but better quality, the drive is just as flat and boring though. -
Help me choose my next car 4 Aug 2025 (Forum)
I currently drive a Golf 8 which mostly, I love. However, my passion is fishing and I have to take frequent trips down rutted muddy tracks. This is where the Golf gets into trouble. My next car needs to be more fishing friendly. -
Mazda CX-5 SportNav (petrol) - 14 reg. Report 7 Feb 2025 (Forum)
I think that's pretty good for a car of its age. More importantly, I really like it and it's a pleasure to drive. Not sure what will replace it when the time comes. -
Citroen C3 - Intermittently going into limp mode 14 Sep 2024 (Forum)
Have a 2018 1.2 petrol C3 which we left into local garage for regular service a couple of weeks ago. Ever since we got it back, it will start and drive as it should for a short time but then, an engine fault light will appear and the car goes into what feels like limp mode, and will jerk forward as you try to accelerate. If we turn off the engine then restart it, the fault light disappears and it will drive fine for another while before it happens again. -
Insurance quotes and a previous claim 5 Jul 2024 (Forum)
Obviously I wasn't in any way to blame for the cat theft, yet the insurance is hiked regardless, despite nothing else detrimental on my insurance history or driving record in decades. Thoughts? -
ALL - LED HEADLIGHTS & NIGHT DRIVING 24 Feb 2024 (Forum)
The recent;y announced crack-down on eyesight testing, especially among the elderly (and I count myself as one!) has more than likely been made as a result... -
Hyundai i20 - Spilt decorating paste on car windscreen 16 Jan 2024 (Forum)
I parked my car for work which is in a shared car park and the building next door is getting work done to it. When I was driving home this evening I tried to clean the windscreen and when I did the whole windscreen was covered in a white covering. I tried frantically to clear this with screenwash, my driving vision was completely obscured. -
Ford Focus - Ford Focus Turbocharger overboost 25 Dec 2023 (Forum)
The problem is that it's xmas eve, and I'm going back home on Boxing day, so zero chance of getting it to a mechanic by then. So basically is it safe (for the engine) to drive it 300 miles back home, or am I going to wreck the engine? Also, I'm a bit confused as to what disconnecting the MAF sensor does - does that stop the overboost, making it safe to drive? (10 year old 1.0 ecoboost ford focus) -
Hyundai i20 - Evan Halshaw 17 Sep 2023 (Forum)
I had to pay £349 delivery for the car to brought up to my local EH plus £99 deposit. I said to the salesman I want to test drive it before buying (The branch in England said I'd have to buy from them before delivery which put me off) The salesman said they can deliver the car but if I didn't take it then I'd be charged the delivery fee although I'd get my deposit back. -
Suggestions for a car 18 Oct 2022 (Forum)
We don't do a massive miles only around 2k a year and the old car was a 1l fiesta which was boring and slow to drive so I was looking for something fun to drive like a focus st or something along those lines but reality is I have a 1yo and my wife wants her in a rear facing seat for as long as possible and wants room in the front. -
Hand brake clicks 8 Jul 2022 (Forum)
I understand from my sister that takes her driving test soon that the tester expects her to lift the hand brake without clicks (pushing the little button in while pulling up or releasing the handle). Her driving instructor and also other ADI's tell the same thing to their learners as they claim it is damaging or stressing the handbrake mechanism. -
Vauxhall Mokka X - Automatic Gear Box Query 19 Apr 2022 (Forum)
My main query is about about the smoothness of the lever when changing gear. When I start the car and pull the gear lever backwords from Park to Drive it feels fairly smooth, but when I shift from Drive back to Park it feels very stiff and more difficult to move. Why should it feel ok in one direction and not the other ? I always do things correctly, with my foot on the brake and I make sure to squeeze the trigger on the gear lever, although I'm not sure of squeezing the trigger makes any difference. -
Crossland X - Gearbox linkage problem 23 Sep 2021 (Forum)
On the second occasion which happened 3 months later I was 100% sure I did not lift the ring on gearstick to engage reverse, I have been driving for 45 years and used to this kind of gearstick. I took it to a Vauxhall dealer but they have said they found no issues with the gearbox. This is an intermittent problem, but it makes me nervous to drive it when starting off now as I am never sure if it's going to fly back! -
Skoda Fabia Estate 2003 - How many miles from Michelin CrossClimates? 18 Aug 2021 (Forum)
So I wondered what folk 'round here think to all that? In terms of driving... We're right in the sticks, so a lot of dodgy back roads, but we also have family in Norfolk and so go back a few times a year so a reasonable amount of motorway driving too. Cheers -
Fiesta Mk7 1.25 - Buying used 3 Jun 2021 (Forum)
A friend has asked me for assistance in buying a used car for his daughter. She is a new driver and trainee nurse. She is likely to drive about 10 miles motorway and 5 miles city twice every day - there and back. Budget is about £5k and have about 8 weeks to search for one. Normally I would recommend a Aygo/Pug 108 or some other small Japanese car, however because of the daily motorway travel I'm thinking a Fiesta Mk7 with the 1.25L Sigma engine. -
Hard Use Electric Car Range 16 Mar 2021 (Forum)
On the way back, at night, cold, wet, I'd have had headlamps on, air con + heating, radio, phone charging, and stop and start driving for 2.5 hours - covering just 22 miles.I really wonder how long the battery would last stop and go with all the accessories on. Everyone seems to judge range by driving non-stop around the M25 - yet how many people do that? -
Volkswagen Polo - White fluid under driver side wheel arch 29 Jul 2020 (Forum)
I have a VW Polo (2006 Reg). This morning I set off from my house and after driving for about 2 minutes after I'd driven over a few road humps the car started screeching. At first I though it was the brakes as its been raining quite a lot and the cars been on the drive for a day without having been driven but the car was screeching without applying the brakes. -
Pedestrian with pram and children - Crossing the road, Courtesy 25 Aug 2019 (Forum)
Was driving up the road this morning and saw a lady crossing the road from my right just ahead of me, (she was in the road, but still theoretically on the opposite side, approaching the centre, I was going slowly as had just come round a corner, so stopped easily and waved to continue.
