Bleeding brakes on a Classic Mini 22 Jul 2004 (Forum)
Further pipe was replaced by someone else and brakes supposedly bleed again but 5 months of sitting in the garage they seem to be spongy again. It?s a 1980 Mini with drums at the rear and disks at the front. -
Passat 2001 Creaking Steering 26 May 2004 (Forum)
Does this seem like the problems you had or typical of wishbone/balljoint wear? What should I be looking at replacing? just the wishbone(s)or balljoints as well? Where can I get the bits Eurocarpart and GSF dont list them on their sites, any ideas and cost? Would a worn drive belt for the PAS cause this? Should I stop driving it? What will happen worst case if say I drive 500 miles this weekend? -
Seethe...! Parking Extortion.. 27 Nov 2003 (Forum)
He phoned the number on the notice, and went to the pound, where he had to pay £200 for the release of the car (more than two days income) He?s writing to complain to the council about the lack of visible warnings, and will probably send a copy of the letter to Ken Livingstone. Has anyone in the BR had a similar experience, if so, what are his chances of a result? -
Great News - end to rip off services! 20 Nov 2003 (Forum)
Therefore, if you buy as VW, you can have it serviced outside the VW network and still keep the warranty. This could save motorists £'s.. and is surely good for the industry. However, I guess owners will have to take a few garages to court to get any joy. Any thoughts on this and future impacts of the legislation. Or has anyone encountered any problems ? -
Rover KV6 2.5 29 Oct 2003 (Forum)
It has now done 84,500 on tghe new engine, reasonably without fault. It seems that there are still KV6's in the current 75, and having seen recently a TV programme highlighting the KV engine problems that Rover are still encountering makes me wonder whether Rover have resolved the KV6 problems. It seems impossible to get a definitive answer from my local Rover dealers. -
astra brake light problem 23 Oct 2003 (Forum)
Can anyone suggest a solution to my problem with the brake lights on my son's 1.6 P reg Astra premier, Im minding the car for him whilst he's working away, It,s not getting a lot of running coupled with me being away on holiday, when I came back and tried to start It the battery was'nt up to the job, now normally I would just put the jump leads on it but I'd had this gadget in the boot for ages unused that works by transfering power via the cigar lighter sockets, the Idea is to just plug in and wait for enough power to flow into the duff battery, anyway It did'nt work and so resorted to the trusty jump leads, the problem now is that the brake lights won't go out as soon as the ignition is turned on, my own theory is that it may have blown a diode allowing power to flow from another source and feed the brake lights, but where are they located and what do they look like? -
Spurious VW leak 9 Oct 2003 (Forum)
Could it be an AC coolant leak? I'm quite unaware of the possibilities so any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thx. S. PS My temp gauge has not been working for a while now, still waiting for VW to check it out and let me know what the problem is. I don't know if this relates to the wet patch either. -
New XType Diesel Has Broken Down 29 Sep 2003 (Forum)
I received my New XType SE Diesel on the 6th September 2003(Earlier than the launch date of 10th September) The engine is the same as that fitted to my Ford Mondeo TDCI Zetec S.(Part Exchanged for the Jaguar) The timing cover even has a Ford Stamp on it. The car has just Broken Down after 8 Days and 297 miles. The fault is the same as what happens with the Mondeo TDCI and my own Mondeo TDCI. -
LPG Problem - Rover 820 6 Jun 2003 (Forum)
The LPG system on a friend's car decided to pack up at the weekend. The car is an "S" reg Rover 820 Auto, with (but don't quote me on this) a LaVorta? LPG conversion. The car was driven all the way from Oxfordshire to Dover and onto the Ferry to France with no problems whatsoever. However, upon leaving the Ferry in France the car refused to run on LPG. -
Home Trader 11 May 2003 (Forum)
A number of people told me they had complained - to no avail. The council were not interested and the trader/s ignored them and then one night someone went round several of the cars and smashed the side and rear windows! No, it wasn't me and I don't condone it, but I understand a few of the local residents were a little happier. -
Tyres for an S280 Mercedes 18 Apr 2003 (Forum)
I'm told by everyone, including Honest John that the S-Class wears tyres very quickly, especially on the front. Typically 6,000, 9,000 or 12,000 miles depending on who you ask and how you drive of course. I drive like I'm on a Sunday jaunt. Apparently. ;) Which ones do folk recommend? -
Petrol smell... 6 Jan 2003 (Forum)
Does anyone know for sure either of these points ? FYI The EVAP system o the Galaxy consists of charcoal canister under front O/S wing with vapour connection to fuel tank and purge valve. Normally an evaporative emission control system uses a sealed tank cap and vents the tank via the charcoal canister, however the fuel cap looks too 'fancy' to be a simple closed seal type. -
Double Standards Officer. 18 Dec 2002 (Forum)
Rockingham and Santa Pod were suggested as alternative suggestions for speed related malarkey. Strange, then, that a mere seven pages later an article on the new Mini Cooper S is printed, heralding its 135 mph capability and seven second 0 - 60 times. The article went on to say "the important figures I like to quote are the 50 - 75 mph overtake time" and last time we looked, 75 mph was illegal and surely not important at all. -
Caravan towing speed record 5 Nov 2002 (Forum)
This record is also under investigation as a world normally-aspirated production car towing record. Details of this will be confirmed shortly. So what\'s the world record for towing a shed? And, if they can go that fast, why do the old f**** always tootle along at 60 km/h? -
Feeling menaced? 19 Aug 2002 (Forum)
Drivers in the East Midlands are the least concerned 17 per cent of them recording some unease, while their counterparts in the North West go down as Britain?s wimps with 37 per cent. And a whopping 69 per cent of drivers surveyed confessed it adversely affected their normal driving habits when a bike is behind or beside them". -
Blind spots, wing mirrors. 17 Jul 2002 (Forum)
Needless to say, I and the other driver were more than a touch discombobulated. I have been advised that Halfords sell a small mirror that one sticks onto one\'s wing mirror so improving visibility. Has anybody out there any experience of such an item and could advise whether it works or not. Is there any other solution to this problem. I am going on a trip of approx. 450 miles within the next few weeks so would really, really like to lesson the risks of any further incidents. -
4X4 that runs on both Petrol and Diesel 22 Mar 2002 (Forum)
Anyway, we set about looking for this mysterious vehicle, only to come across the then newly introduced (to Sri Lanka) Nissan Patrol; Unfortunately our friend?s English wasn?t that great ? he had mistaken the word Patrol for petrol and also seeing the word diesel on the rear of the Nissan had put 2 and 2 together and made??... Worn Ford key 21 Mar 2002 (Forum)
Sister in law got stuck outside her local chipper last night in her fiesta (mid 90's I think) she could turn the key in the ignition, but with no resistance, there was no electrical activity and the steering lock would not come off, so the car could not even be towed. Sods law kicked in and where it was parked turned into a clearway in the morning! -
Mega-stars wot I know. 22 Feb 2002 (Forum)
Seems OGL* is scheduled for another appearance on LBC this Saturday. 1) who's listening ? 2) anyone know what time (current UK time) ? Their website doesn`t show it. 3) who`s got the wotsits to review him in the same way you do Driven/Top Gear ? (not me). Also, HJ, I know that you`ve done this stuff for years without my help (interference) but would you like me to prepare a crib sheet for you listing all the possible answers in case someone rings up with a Freelander query ? -
Kenlowe Hot-Start - The Saga Continues 14 Jan 2002 (Forum)
In case anyone was discouraged from getting one of the devices by my tale(s) of woe:- Kenlowe has kindly replaced the heater/pump unit again, but after some discussion with them & my garage, it was suggested that the continuing failures were probably due to the switchback routing of the connecting pipes' resulting in airlocks developing, at the top of each hump.
