  • Ford Mondeo - Which mondeo? 22 Apr 2011 (Forum)
Hi all, Bit of advice please for someone about to buy his second ever used car.... There are two mondeos that I have my eye on and was wondering which, taken as read that both are in the same good nick, you consider to be the better buy? Mondeo 1: 05 Plate 1.8 LX hatch 30k Miles £3,250 or 53 Plate 2.0TDCi Graphite hatch 92k Miles £2,500 (both FSH, 12 month RAC warranty) Am confused because the diesel one will have lower fuel consumption, is £750 cheaper, but is 2.5 years older and with 3x the mileage......
  • New car dealers - numbered days 18 Nov 2020 (Forum)
Dealers will become first line manufacturer support, service centres and (maybe) used sales. But not new car sales process, Pricing is moving up to manufacturer. Manufacturers will have much stronger control of after sales, warranty claims etc (a good thing), removing the more questionable dealers who drive a fair few threads on this forum, and ultimately cost sales to manufacturers.
  • FIAT Panda (2003 - ) - Dilemma: should I just put in for p/x? 2 Jul 2008 (Forum)
I've had my Panda for a few weeks now, but............ I love the Panda- great looks and I love the drivig position. It's just.......I can't get used to it. I just cannot get used to the clutch, or the handling in general. I've driven many different cars over the past few years and always got used to them quite quickly. But the Panda is being extremely stubborn!
  • Deposit on used car deal 14 Aug 2005 (Forum)
We feel we are, so any advice where we stand on this? *After agreeing on a price of £8400, he immediatly added £56 VAT for the 2 year warranty, which they advertise as free. Now I have bought used cars with warranties before and they have absorbed the price in the final agreed price, but he was having none of this... So if anybody is thinking of buying a car from - DELETED.
  • Vauxhall - supagard 8 Apr 2010 (Forum)
No one seems to want to be bothered with this despite us paying 300 pounds for it. Supagard said we should buy some more of their product to put on but as we said - 'why should we - we have just paid 300 pounds'. Any advice as to any thought on why this panel looks so different to the rest of the car would be much appreciated.
  • Peugeot 4007 (2007 - ) - 08 2.2 Slipping Clutch 20 Dec 2009 (Forum)
Took the tech for a drive and he confirmed so. All good till he told me that PUG have a limit of 20 000 miles warranty on the clutch, and as I have done 23 330 I would most likely be liable for all costs for this repair!!! Cost estimated upward of £1000. I use the car daily on a normal 20 mile commute, no back roads, go through a few towns and a bit of motorway.
  • What new car for £8-9k? 19 May 2007 (Forum)
Central locking, electric windows, ABS - I can live without them. I like to keep the car for at least 3 years but prefer to keep for 5 years. Car will be used mainly on town with weekend long journeys on motorways, however, if I change job, I may need to travel on motorway everyday. Not willing to go for used car as I suffered in past with used cars.
  • Volkswagen - excellent service from main dealer 16 Jun 2009 (Forum)
I just thought I'd share my experience today at a VW main dealer today. I booked my Sept '06 56 plate Passat in for a service before the warranty expires. I phoned on Tuesday and they said they could do it today - good start. Dropped the car off at 7.30 am (useful for me) and was given the keys to a 09 Golf estate. Had a call at about 10 am to ask if I wanted the (recommended) brake fluid change and air con service inc 'refresh'.
  • Honda Civic - Which Honda Civic? 26 Jul 2017 (Forum)
I am helping my son (aged 27) buy his first car as he now needs a car for his new job. He has been a regular named driver on my policy. We have decided a Honda Civic fits his requirements, budget £10000. Considering the following two examples, which do you think makes more sense, the newer vehicle with remaining manufacturer warranty seems a good buy at this price from a car supermarket, but it is a basic spec with a 1.4 engine.

  • Dealers & the law - contains no naming/shaming! 16 Nov 2008 (Forum)
Gentlemen - A chap has - let us say - 5 or 6 cars kept off road. V5 left in previous owner's name in all cases. Cars offered for sale, but with the very firm condition that there is no warranty. I thought, surely that's illegal?
  • Mazda MX5 - Car been in the garage for 6 weeks! 17 Jul 2010 (Forum)
However, the warranty co. have said it is between us and the garage to sort out they won't get involved at all. Today I insisted the garage take it to a main dealer as I want our car back - "oh we've been on touch with Mazda and they have said they have a slot a week on Tuesday - two days shy of them having the car for 2 months!!!
  • Renault Clio 2017 - Lipping on Brake discs 11 Mar 2021 (Forum)
The car is now in its last year of warranty and maybe DIY would make the warranty void. Apart from that, Front tyres are 4.6 and 5.2, So i will change them over with the rears which are 6.4 and 6.9, so very little wear on the rear.
  • Volkswagen Touran MPV (2003 - ) - 04 2.0 MOT Pass on grinding brakes & ABS kaput. 11 Oct 2008 (Forum)
Prior to the sale he commented that they were just noisy as the car had been sittting but the car would go through the workshop and anything needing done would be. Does anyone know if a car should a car pass an MOT with the ABS clearly not working and requiring new discs and pads that they did not hesitate to fit the same day as soon as i took it back in.
  • Honda FR-V 3+3 MPV - Automatic Wipers - sensitivity adjustment? 6 Apr 2010 (Forum)
And is this a reasonable thing to demand under warranty? Many thanks, "Archie" ps - the other niggle, in case anyone is wondering, is that the traffic announcements on the radio very rarely kick in, whereas in other cars, at the same time of day (on the M25 in the rushhour) the announcements never stop.

  • delayed repair 25 Jul 2003 (Forum)
My Peugeot 406 developed a radiator leak on 29 May, the following day was taken off the road by the dealership which sold it to me 9 months previously and I was told radiator had a fault and will be relpaced asap under the warranty. Ever since then the car has been in the garage and although I was provided with courtesy car immediately my daily work suffers since the first courtesy car was much smaller. That was replaced last week but but I am still finnishing my work later than usual due to constant pulling over to use mobile phone (my car has hands free kit).
  • any car - haggling 8 Jun 2020 (Forum)
hello all Below is a small explanation of the question, What can I expect to get if I was to haggle on a price of a car with regards to screen price, 12 month warranty  ( peace of mind for a short time ), and a trade in of a 15 year old car ( we buy any car say £400 )  I live near Norwich and I am looking at buying a used car for the first time in 12 years and in that time car sales places such as carshop , evan halshaw and hammonds have popped up with what seems higher volume car sales so theres been a few changes since i bought a car.
  • BMW 1 Series - BMW 2016 (manual petrol) won't start initially 14 Mar 2018 (Forum)
Car won't start as it used to. It takes a few times before it starts.  This has been happening on and off for about 2 weeks ago with the snow, I had left the car off for about a week. This hadn't happened in cold days before.
