Any - New European wide fuel labelling 5 Oct 2018 (Forum)
Instead of “Unleaded” and “Diesel”, pumps will be labelled with standardised letters and numbers, corresponding to the type of fuel, and the amount of biofuel it contains (E5/E10 for petrol; B7/B10 for diesel). A recipe for more misfuelling confusion! -
1.2 VW Polo - Hire Car Misfuelling Incident 27 May 2013 (Forum)
Is it likely to come to this? Before this weekend, I always thought I would never misfuel a car, but the fact that one pump was notated 'Diesel' threw my thinking. I have since found out that 'Diesel' in Spain is lower grade diesel for older cars and 'Gasoleo' is diesel for modern cars. -
Ford Focus - Misfuel - Diesel in Petrol Car ( 9 May 2016 (Forum)

Land Rover Discovery Sport - Dominic Cummings' 'stop for petrol' on way home 5 Jun 2020 (Forum)
I doubt that Dom is a back-roomer, but just in case: if you did 'stop for petrol' on the way back to London from Barnard Castle in your 69-plate silver Disco Sport, you might want to check if your insurance covers misfuelling. Because it's a diesel. Right, my vision's a bit fuzzy so I'm just off to drive for 90 minutes or so to make sure I'm OK. -

Smallish automatic 3 Jun 2008 (Forum)
They were thinking of switching from petrol to diesel but as they do less than 15k a year then I can't see the point and a switch at their years might be more prone to misfueling than one done when younger. Whatever they buy needs to be cheap to run, with a decent auto, reasonably safe and reliable. Any ideas on what vehicle to suggest? I was thinking the cmax or a jazz. -
Diesel - is the honeymoon over? 8 Jan 2008 (Forum)
Is the honeymoon over for diesel? Here are my thoughts: * Concern over reliability of CR engines (misfueling etc) * Petrol engines becoming more & more efficient * More electric / hybrid cars on the market now * Diesel prices going up recently (accepted this has happened to normal petrol too though, I paid £1.13 per litre last week) One thing that makes me doubt that diesel has had it's day is that the price of 2nd hand diesels remains high despite concerns (on this board for example) about reliability. -
Car laid up for 12 months - advice 11 Jan 2008 (Forum)
I'm not sure if "Discussion" is the best place for this, but I would be happy for the mods to decide and move it if necessary. SWMBO's daughter's 306 HDi (the one that survived the misfuelling a while back!) will be SORNed and kept on Mum's drive for 12 months while the young lady travels to various far-flung parts of the globe. My initial thoughts about the best procedure for this are that it should be started and run to full temperature every fortnight or so and, as the driveway is spacious, it should be driven back and forth as much as space will allow. -
Astra G 1.4 16v 2001 - astra cooling problem 22 May 2010 (Forum)
so the car carried on as normal misfiring a bit but with no temperature, then the needle started going up and down for a bit but right down the bottom, 5 mins later everything is all fine, temperature gauge returns to normal, no coolant loss, misfires or anything, ive been told its more than likely the coolant temperature sensor reading faulty causing the engine to misfuel etc? Many thanks -
Fabia V Focus 4 Dec 2007 (Forum)
The Focus has a tow bar which always makes me suspicious plus Uncle says it smelt damp which the dealer said was because it had just been valeted. He is aware of the misfueling saga and wants to know if there are any signs to look for. I saw the Fabia less £200 squids unless its an Elegance in which case its on the money but open to your comments. -
Ford Fiesta 1.4 Diesel 2009 - Ford Fiesta 2009 , unable to add fuel additive 3 Mar 2014 (Forum)
I have a problem in that inserting the bottle just spills the product on the ground via the overflow. I bought a baby one shot bottle with the same result. The problem is not capacity but the Ford misfuel inhibitor which won't open except naturally for a fuel pump. I tried a funnel and flexible hose with the same result, prod and poke but the fuel filler neck has been designed to incorporate contact points that open an internal fuel flap only when the larger diesel pump nozzle applies pressure on them. -
Honda Accord UK (2003 - 2008) - 04 2.2 Diesel - glowplug warning light problem 14 Sep 2009 (Forum)
Will not rev above 2,000 and there is some sort of power limiter which means the speed dies away on an up-slope. The car has not been misfuelled Any ideas as to what this could be? What to try next..... {header corrected, as OP confirmed it was the glowplug light and not the coil warning light - DD} -
Ford Focus II (2004 - 2007) - Finally bought a car (no 'buts' this time!) 14 May 2009 (Forum)
For anyone who followed the recent misfuelled diesel Focus or even the 'which Avensis' sagas: We finally bought a very nice, totally unmarked 42K FSH 05 Focus 1.6 LX (115bhp petrol with a/c) privately this evening. Everything was right, owner had car for last 4 years, bought locally from new, nice couple, nice house, new company Focus on the drive, every instinct screaming 'it's legit!' -
Kia C'eed 1.6d 114bhp - Mis fueled my diesel 14 Aug 2018 (Forum)
I estimate the ratio was approx 50/50 when starting out. Having established from my receipt that I'd misfueled I was tempted to top up and carry on and fairly sure I may have got away with it. However, played safe and got it dained etc for £150. You can't be to sure can you. -
Citroen C3 Picasso. - Full size spare. - Citroen Assist 31 Jan 2016 (Forum)
This is not a problem on the outward journey, but coming home it takes up space urgently required for rioja. Also, I notice that Citroen Assistence does not cover punctures, misfueling, running out of fuel and lockoutsb but I see from their website that Citroen offer to include this cover for an extra £20 a year. I was not offered this by the main dealer, and when I enquired he new nothing about it. -
Used diesels 1 Jun 2021 (Forum)
The car in question is a 2014 Dacia Duster 1.5 DCI and after a couple of months of ownership it has suffered catastrophic engine failure. The engineers report has cited misfuelling, which caused the fuel pump to disintegrate and metal to be ingested by the engine. Now despite this wee car having a full service record and being in good condition the current owner had no way to know that someone had dumped a load of unleaded into the tank at some point then ran it. -
Ford Mondeo - BP garage don't seem to care 14 Feb 2011 (Forum)
When I asked to speak to the manager, I was told that he was busy and I would have to wait for 20 min. If anyone believes they have a diesel into petrol car misfuelling problem recently from this garage then I am happy to be a witness. -
Focus / CMax 1600ccTDCi - fuel issue / limp home 6 Sep 2014 (Forum)
The event happens every time as I add my Millers diesel additive following each refill. When I do so, I always trigger a "whoosh & gurgle" when I insert the funnel. It has a misfuel prevention type filler cap. Clearly there is a back pressure developing. Might this have been the cause of my problem, not the filter itself? If it ever goes into limp home mode again I shall be testing for pressure release! -
Expensive day - easy money 15 Jul 2014 (Forum)
Three hours and £225 the poorer, after no more than 15 miutes work by their fuel recovery service I was on my way. First time I've ever misfuelled in 11 years of diesel ownership! -
Mazda CX-5 SE-LUX 2.2 2WD Diesel. - Engine failure 9 Mar 2017 (Forum)
Is it really likely that even if the tank was drained, this could have such a devastating effect two years later? If so, is the correct thing to do really to replace the petrol tank after a misfueling? 2. If it is a fault with the fuel pump, would I have not noticed at least some spluttering, and shouldn't a waring light have come on before the engine died? 3. Would such a major failure take over three weeeks to identify and confirm on a modern car with all its diagnostics?
